  5. New Horizon Majestic 37 RLTSS that has been fully updated by my wife and I. We had just purchased the rv and brought it up to 2018 standards and gave it our own personal custom touch to make it feel more like home. Those who know about New Horizons know they are built like tanks. They have and I-beam frame with a box beam attached to the bottom of the the I-beam to give torsional stability to the I-beam which is superior for it's spanning strength. We removed the carpet and installed java hickory vinyl planking which comes with a lifetime warranty in a residential setting. The cabinets were refinished in an Ultra Pure White semi gloss finished with all new brushed bronze hardware. Walls were refinished in a Pure white semi gloss. The dark wood floor pattern with the white gives a fantastic contrast and creates a much more inviting setting appearing both more spacious and warm comfortable. Bedroom has queen size Tempurpedic mattress, large cedar closet with two full size sliding mirrors, plenty of storage, built in cedar hamper, bed tilts up for more storage, really amazing cabinetry. The bedroom has more storage than my bedroom in my house. Full bathroom with vanity and brushed bronze lavatory faucet. Separate water closet from vanity and shower which is ideal. Full sized neo-angle shower with glass sliding doors and single handle shower valve. Kitchen is fully equipped with a brand new convection/microwave, Electric cook top, full size residential refrigerator. Electric/propane water heater. Unit has two propane furnaces controlling two zones from one Dometic thermostat. The unit has three roof top fans that can pull air in or push air out and also have rain covers which is a nice feature. There are plenty of windows and a huge amount of natural light fills the rooms, when it gets dark there is recessed lighting every imaginable spot and all independently controlled for optimal lighting during all conditions. Our reason for selling is simply that we after spending a great deal of time updating our coach realized we would like to get a Coach. We just had our first child and found there our circumstance that we hadn't foreseen prior to our little bundle of joy and logistically as a family a motor coach will work better for us. The end result is a New Horizon that has been completely gone through and updated and the kicker is we have never spent a night in it. It was a fun project and thoroughly enjoyed it and know that a family or couple will have a great time in this New Horizon. I will get pictures up stat~

  7. Getting ready to take both my written and skills test for a Class A Exempt (non-CDL) Texas license. Other than the Texas driving handbook, can anyone recommend a site that will help me with the test questions? And, since I have a big rig in the form of a fifth wheel that I pull with a semi truck, what kind of skills in Texas will they expect me to demonstrate? For instance, will there be an air test I have to perform? I just now found David & Cheryl's post on the subject that was posted in this forum in 2016. It has been updated. Excellent post answering most of my questions that I have requested here. Specifically, there are still a couple of concerns my wife and I have about the skills test. Does anyone out there have any dealings with the Waco test site. We live in Waco, and we are apprehensive about testing in the city. Also, David and Cheryl recommended that we study the section in the handbook on air brakes, but did not mention whether or not we might be asked to perform an air test. We are driving a mid sized Freightliner with air ride suspension and brakes. Being newbies, any help would be appreciated.
  8. My wife and I recently bought a big rig from a couple which also included a membership into Thousand Trails as part of the package deal. We are currently experiencing difficulty transferring the membership, and we wonder if it is worth the effort. We would appreciate hearing about any experiences you seasoned travelers have had concerning this resort in particular and any other rv resorts you may have had experiences. It is a big investment, and while we have read other review sites on Thousand Trails, we are not sure we trust all the information on those sites, probably from our lacking very little rv experience. We find it hard to separate legitimate from illegitimate complaints in those forums. We look forward to a long association with the Escapees RV Club and hope to meet many members. If you think you can help us, please jump in and comment. We will value any input.
  9. Recently I saw the question posted on facebook, "Can I install a household shower head in an RV" The answer of course is yes. they both use standard pipe fittings as well as the faucets in the kitchen and bathroom. I decided to get a shower head that is not labeled for RV use and see what happens. I was completely underwhelmed, it was just like I had put the factory shower head back on. So now I'm back in the comfort of my oxygenics. Check it out if you have some time!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jXr6jFOMVVk
  10. Hello All, I am starting this topic to compile info in one spot for my husband. We are planning on purchasing a DRV fullhouse soon. We need to up grade our F250 of course. Well, we have been looking at the Ram 3500 and the Ford F450. I know everyone's situation is different, ours is that I will be commuting to my job, sometimes up to 50 miles one way (depending where we camp in relation to the location of the center for my company). We want a toyhauler to keep our RZR1000 and our smoker with us, so that leaves out a toad. So basically, would a M2 class be the best option for us? Also, if you could give your opinion on why a larger truck would be better than the pickups. I know one drv dealer and the sales rep for drv said F450. Thank you for your time.

  12. Pullrite SuperGlide 2900 18k Slider 5th-Wheel HitchI bought this hitch in March of 2017 for my 2014 Ford F250 Super Duty PowerStroke Diesel to hook up a Keystone Montana. I found that the F250 was simply too light of a truck to stop the Montana, so I just switched to a dually long bed. I no longer need a slider hitch. I towed the Montana for a total of about 1,000 miles, and removed the hitch before trading in the F250. Asking $650.00 -- make a reasonable offerThis hitch is in excellent condition, and includes all hitch parts and the capture plate for the trailer. It does NOT include the rails for the truck. We are currently parked at Escapees in Livingston, TX. Due to the weight of this hitch, you'll most likely need to come pick it up. Reply if you want photos...
  13. Sorry for the re post, had this in the wrong catagory.. Hi all, My co-parent and I are giving up the tied down life style of a house and are looking at 5th wheels as an option. We both have looked at plenty of campers, brands, floor plans, etc.... Alot have asked this question in this forum so i'll be honest, our budget is around 20k, 30k being very generous. I understand the whole arctic/ four season packages will be to our advantage as is siding etc, but our biggest problem is an exact brand to look after, and like everyone else on the web we'll take our shot at listening to you guys from experience. I plan on keeping this topic active, and will respond asap! So, here goes, the notables: It will be for long-term living, placed in a nice sunny/warm south Dakota, currently reached above 0 degrees lol. looking for a bunk house style with a separate room for the kids, must have room for the 3 of them. A separate toilet would be nice, however 1 will suffice. Questions: Any brand one refers more than the other for cold weather? Any expert Hacks/ Tricks of the trade/ Knowledge of cold weather living... Is an rv car port a big help (cost wise in the end)? Thanks all in advance! q(*~*)p Monte
  14. Anyone else using Verizon Unlimited and liking it? Yeah it's not truly unlimited in every way, but it still is a home internet replacement for me without issue. I made this video in my apartment, but I am weekender currently when it comes to RVing, and am out every weekend primarily at the same campground, but out to different parts of the country around me regularly.
  15. I have been researching buying a new fifth wheel 46' with a min. size Garage of 13' to fit two 50" Wide ATVs for recreational adventures. I need Master bath and 1/2 bath by garage. I have been waiting for few new models released for the dealer show end of Sept few weeks back. Dealers want to sell what they have on their lots so they not motivated to get me new info to order one and wait for it. My challenge is now see two brands that have side patio deck I now think would be nice to have. My primary priorities in my choice will be floor plan layout for a family to go camping but also haul 2 ATVs. I also have been trying to compare the Cable Slide outs vs. Hydraulic Slide. I do understand what a Schwin Tech (spell wrong) type is for the smaller slides. I like the Sofa incliner slide but do not need dinner table in kitchen. Shoot, I like the two brands that I have seen so far have a touch panel for controls via cell phone. I really like that feature if possible to get with floorpan I like. All I know is I'm glad at least I have limited choices since I only need FW toy hauler vs. all the other FW choices in the world. I sure wish there was a website with Engine to punch in your feature choices on a camper and then it would give suggested models. (Lowest priority items: Washer/Dryer convenience, Big Screen TVs, Dining room table not wanted, Overpriced kitchens, 3 AC units not needed) Winter and summer camping , Remote Outdoors and recreation use , not for full time living or long periods of time. Like to order one in next week or two to be built. If I was to go custom manf. would the six each independent axles be a much better ride for dirt roads in national forest , or just overkill? If you have too much time on your hands I would love to hear any suggestions of where to continue my research. I am out west but willing to travel to research best new solution or factory even. This is first time I found this great resource of a website today and read lots of nice people giving advice on learn from their mistakes. I will be towing with my new Dodge 3500 Megacab Short bed DRW (not RAMBOX) also. One Example of FW I found similar so far is the 2018 Keystone Fusion 417 but no side patio deck on that one Thanks
  16. Here is a quick tip for winterizing that RV fridge if you have the same handles I do https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJ-1YfREYj4
  17. I have a recommendation for any RV'ers visiting Livingston who need to get their inspection done. This place will inspect vehicles, motorhomes, towed trailers, and fifth wheels. There is ample room in front of their shop to maneuver your rig (unlike a couple of the other local inspection places). The fellow who did my inspection was knowledgable about travelers who may be showing up to get their inspection done well after they got their registration (unlike another place that told me I didn't have to get inspected at all). Soda's Auto Repair 936-563-4234 6709 Highway 190 If you are coming from Livingston, head east on 190. Soda's is 6.2 miles after the intersection of 190 and 146. It will be on your left as you near the top of a hill and is across from a cell tower.
  18. Hi - Our Hensley Air Ride Hitch for fifth wheel in our F350 dually will not lock in when husband backs up. Jaws don't close and pin doesn't click (may not be describing this accurately here). Hensley has an emergency number 24/7 - and no call back at this point and here we sit. Husband is no rookie at trailering, he kjnows what he is doing, understands how these mechanisms work - but he has tried about 10 times to back into the fifth wheel at varying degrees of force and the hitch will not lock. Any Ideas, Pls? Thanks for any help.
  19. I recently installed two Battle Born lithium batteries and an Ames 2000 watt inverter charger into my travel trailer. Here is how it looks all finished up minus the parallel cables for the two batteries, Here is my real world usage for those batteries anybody else using these batteries, I am a big fan. I will no longer carry a generator 2-4 day boondocking trips.
  20. Temperatures are getting chilly overnight, I have a tip for those of us without heat pumps. This allows me to use electric heat and or catalytic heaters that sip propane to warm the entire coach.
  21. This 40ft fifth wheel toy hauler has a large open floor plan, large windows, and lots of space. It is in great shape, and has new vinyl wood plank flooring throughout. 22. I’ve been doing research on moving to an RV lifestyle when I retire (~ 18 months). I pretty much know what RV I’m going to buy, but the truck is still an uncertainty. The things I do know is that it will be a diesel, crew cab and long box….all of those are certainties. So as background, to start, I expect that we will be RVing only during the Ohio winters, but transitioning to full-time based on the first year or two of experiences. To those means, I have developed an extensive list of things we will be taking. I’ve gone as far as to weigh them (or acquire their weight), determine where they will be stored in the RV, and have used some simple engineering force formulas to calculate a realistic payload requirement for the truck. (NOTE: GCWR and GAWR are not at risk. It’s only the truck’s GVWR and Payload that I am concerned about). Knowing that only the Dodge Ram’s Super Duty is SAE J2807 compliant at this time, the only thing I could do is use the manufacturer’s specs when looking at payload ratings. The good news is that with Ford redesigning their Super Duty line in 2017, they and GM have committed to the SAE standards in 2017. That helps me if I buy something new, but not is I buy something used. That said, my calculated payload has a maximum requirement of 3,900 lbs, which eliminated the 2016 Ford SRW which comes in approx. 3,600 lbs. Bummer, because I like the Fords. 2016 Chevy is approx. 4,200 lbs and 2016 Dodge Ram is approx. 4,300 lbs, both are SRWs. Given these are approaching the upper limits of the vehicles, I’ve been contemplating going to a DRW, which I would prefer not to if given a choice. But I need to be realistic too. Anyway, after reading a number of other forums elsewhere on the internet on the subject of “DRW vs SRW”, I’ve determined that it is best that I consult a group of people in similar situations as I am. The forums had good info, but the types of towing varied. As a result, I thought I would come here for the perspective of an experienced audience. So the RV I am interested in is a fifth wheel, has a GVWR of 14,000 lbs and the max. payload required (trailer, passenger, hitch, etc.) will be approx. 3,900 lbs. What are some of the pros and cons between SRW vs DRW when it comes to towing something like this configuration? Also, while I don’t expect it to be my DD (daily driver) in the off season, I do expect to use it some when not towing. As well, when I am towing, I expect we’ll need to use it for getting around; e.g. sight-seeing, grocery shopping, laundry, etc., and I may ask for it to eventually become a full-time towing vehicle. Last point, we expect that boondocking will be our preferred style of accommodations when we do go RVing. Any help would be appreciated.
  23. Anyone tow with a HDT? Going to buy our truck today and have been looking at the newer F450's. Will the F450 require bags to tow a mobile suite? I know trucks but I know nothing about diesels or HDT's. Would rather have the HDT to sit higher and all the benefits of pulling/stopping our rig but don't know anything about manufactures, milage, etc... We will be traveling rvers living full time. Thanks for any input.
  24. We will be taking delivery of our full-time fifth wheel soon. Already took delivery of truck with B&W turnover ball hitch. We want to purchase a hitch lock, locks for the cargo doors, lock for the generator, and whatever other security measures might be needed? Would appreciate any thoughts and recommendations.
