  1. sushidog, I am curious to know if the ice bear cycles you have in the back of your truck are clones of the Honda trail 70 and how do you like them?
  2. Actually I have a titled TT now that I have traveled in since 1999. I am considering taking it off the road for a year or two and don't want to have to mess with the inspection during that time period.
  3. Anyone current on how this will affect rv's set up or stored for extended times and not operated on the roads in TX? I know I could call the tax office in Livingston but why would I want to miss all the excellent information availlable here.
  4. It would seem to me that the upper level workers couldn't or didn't or wouldn't read it.
  5. It is their sandbox because we let them have it. Same for justification. We "could" make them justify. I don't see this happening but it has occaisionnaly. The more the public gets involved the more likely it is to happen. I may not believe in Unicorns but I want to.
  6. The state legislature once accidentally honored the Boston Strangler because they weren't paying attention to the bills they were passing. On April 1, 1971, Texas state Rep. Tom Moore proposed a bill to honor Albert DeSalvo, the Boston Strangler who allegedly murdered 13 women. Moore's point was to show that his colleagues didn't read the bills they were voting on, a point that was proven correct when the state House approved the bill. Moore ended up retracting the bill after its passage. I ran across this and had to share.
  7. Thank you for promptly sharing new information and for speaking for us.
  8. I hope at some point someone reports all the attendees and what they discuss. Also I would like to see if there are reprsentatives of more than one political party.
  9. According to a news item I just read there is a legislative summit going in Nacogdoches today. It is too late for anyone to attend but I can find no evidence of prior notification about this on Sen. Nichols web page even though he is listed in the article as key person at the event. The public is supposedly able to attend. I can't find a list of the attendees which is said to include 15 people. I don't know how to do a link but I found it on ktre ABC tv.
  10. The Tx legislature isn't always on top of everything, the feds are not always on top of everything, the churches are not always on top of everything, I am not always on top of everything, you are not always on top of everything. Don't you think you may be holding escapees to a ridiculiously high standard? There is nothing wrong with questioning them, do it myself but it doesn't have to come across as an attack. We just got a response. Change won't be instantaneous. If I get any evidence that escapees is deliberatly withholding information then I may change my tune but for now I intend to give them a chance without beating on them. That is how I see it.
  11. You know the magician isn't supposed to reveal the secret of the trick. Most magic tricks as you may know are base on the principal of slight of hand. HMMMM! Oh yeah as many as possible will take credit for doing it that way to help us. Therefore it is a good thing.
  12. They may have even looked at having 90 days to get the inspection as a good thing but I personnally think there is a bigger agenda somewhere here and while I am certain that revenue listed as a fee instead of a tax is a big part,,that someone in this mix has some fish to fry. A negative to no inspection sticker is that law enforcement can not tell by looking that a vehicle is out of compliance and must look it up on the computer.
  13. Well, I thought I posted a thank you to Travis-Mr, Koca earlier but somehow it went away.
  14. No one can catch everything that goes on in the government all the time. I don't believe most of the people who voted for it even understood it. This may even have been what I call "stealth" legislation with an agenda. The fact that escapees is addressing it now and that will be usefull.
  15. Thank you, mrshwarz. To be fair Kellyg with 20 candidates to speak they had to have some kind of limit for anyone to say anything. If they had given them a free hand everyone might still be sitting there listening. And you just know most probably stretched their time. It does say something about the possible weight the members of escapees voting influence that so many would show up given the limits on time.
  16. chiefneon, thanks for the report. With that many people I am not surprised that they had to put limitations. I am a little disappointed that Rep.White was not in attendance but it true you can't be everywhere so I can only assume there was a good reas on until I know otherwise. I would think that our Sen. Nichols is as important on this issue as Rep. White. I am a little disappointed in the answer you got from Mr. Koca, although it is a little early in the game for anyone to have concrete answers. Again thanks for the report.
  17. I don't know who will be at the forum tomorrow at the activity center at Rainbow's End but I intend to bide my time and wait for some feedback from other Escapees that will be present. I expect it will be brought up by someone to the canditates. Hopefully out State Sen and Rep will be present. Not casting stones at this point but I believe the Sen. is on the transportation committee and I would think that would be relivent to this issue. I believe someone on one of these threads has already said he will be there and intends to bring it up if possible.
  18. This is dealing with legislation so I would imagine it will be a slow-slow process. Even so it would be nice to hear something even if it is only, still working no new information say on a weekly time frame.
  19. This deal creates all kind of problems. If you buy one in June that was inspected and passed in January it looks like you may have to get another one. I see more revenue for the state.
  20. I don't understand your comment about no one caring about RV'ers after the example of someone out of state for a good reason maybe having to drive back to Tx for a vehicle inspection so they can keep their registration current. The effect is the same. Often the places we are don't even have a safety inspection requirement. I am not current on what size or weight of trailers require an inspection. IE: does does a 4X6, or a 6X16 foot utility trailer require inspection in Tx. What about a boat trailer. I believe all trailers in Texas require registration. It might seem a little extreme but it is a valid question. All could be required to be inspected for at least lighting and tires and brakes if they have them. Some RV'rs for instance even have 3 vehicles or more that are purchased at different months so are registered in different months. The same actually applies to almost everyone in Texas that has multiple vehicles. In regard to NC and their issues, I am wondering about all the GI's there that may not be available to come home to get their vehicle inspected in the proper time frame. The same could hold true for Tx. under the new system for the GI's here.
  21. I second Jack's sentiment on your experience. It can really be a problem with employs and their supervisors that don't know how to do what they are tasked to do or even how to find the correct information. I applaud the ones that at least try to resolve it. I don't think in most cases it a bad attitude. I reported somewhere here recently how when I was at Livingston and went to have my then CDL renewed almost 6mo early and the new one was never issued. After calling the Livingston office I was referred to a phone in Austin. It was a matter of hours of waiting on the phone on multiple days. Eventually I got to someone that put a canciliation on it and a new one issued but could not say what happened to the original which really kept me worried. About 7 months later I went in person to a DL office I think in Athens,TX. that wasn't busy and talked with a lady that was able to get the information that it was never issued in the first place but still could not say why. At least I didn't have to worry that someone had got their hands on the first one. I have been a Texan since 1953 and have never heard of this happening. Go figure.
  22. D&L, That would make me crazy. Since 1997 I have probably bought 5 used vehicles out of state. Never had a problem when going through the tax office in Livingston and I was never coming back into the state soon. I have never experience the no paper title though. There must be some type of paperwork I would assume. You surely can't be the 1st. person to have brought a vehicle in from Arizona. One thing I found out in NM is they have the ability to issue you a paper title immediately. Texas has been my state since 1953 but for some of our leaders that run around talking about how advanced we are they sure can screw things up and keep us in the horse and buggy era. The current debacle is a fair example.
  23. Again, thanks for factual information. I have bought several trucks at auction in NM over the years while I was volunteering there. It was always a fairly easy process going through the Polk Cty tax assessor-collector. They are very knowledgeable. The last time was just over 2 years ago. The normal process included safety & or emissions on return to Texas. Some places you can only get temp. tags for a short period. I believe in NM is 10days. It seems to mean that if you bought an RV out of state you would have to immediately drive or tow it to Tx. for inspection before you could register it. I am not saying for sure this is true just that it seems to read that way to me. I am anxious to get this resolved as soon as we can although I am aware that it may take until the next session to really resolve it. Almost no one in the senate or legislature seems to have voted against this which makes me think almost no one read it or thought it through. I think it truly is a situation of unintended consequences.
  24. I read through this the best I could and another thing that I noted was if you buy a vehicle out of state you will have to get it inspected before it can be registered in Texas.
  25. Catfish, I agree not to panic but think this through.. I currently have a P/U and TT. Both are supposed to be safety inspected but at different times of year. Registration is at different times of year. Lets say I want to make a trip around the west maybe up to Alaska for maybe 6 months. Am I supposed to drive to Texas to get my vehicle inspected even in a 3 month window from somewhere like Washington state or Alaska. This makes no sense. I usually spend several months each in at least 2 other states that do not require my vehicle be safety inspected. I am not picking on you I hope you understand. I am just trying to make a point.
