It is interesting that "speeding tickets" and "citations" are two of the four listed criteria. So states that issue more speeding tickers or other citations automatically have worse drivers?? In my experience those two factors (number of speeding tickets and citations) are directly an indicator of the level of enforcement effort in a locality or state and in no way are an indicator of driving quality. We have crazy numbers of speeders where I live, but virtually no enforcement. So we have better drivers?? This entire article is based on analysis of "over 2 million insurance quotes" and really doesn't measure driving ability in any meaningful way. I guess the first thing that should be noted is that the wheelbase of a vehicle and the length of a vehicle are two different things. So your statement regarding the ability of a 12' 6" long vehicle (a very short vehicle indeed) being able to tow a 30' travel trailer is inaccurate (according to the referenced formula).

There are a lot of discussions on this forum about various forms of insurance. In all cases it should be understood that the over the long haul, insurance companies pay out less than they collect. In the case of long-term care insurance, many people never enter a long-term care facility, and others are only in one for a short time. So like any other form of insurance, you are likely to not recover what you have paid in. But for some the peace of mind is worth it. You can be assured that the financial planner who gave the "sound advice" makes commissions by selling these policies. And that the insurance companies themselves have been making excellent returns on the premiums paid in many years ago. Will you get your money back in the long run? No way to know...

I don't disagree. We custom-ordered a Hitchhiker in 2011 and full-timed in it for 9 years. It was solid as a rock, and still in fantastic shape when we sold it earlier this year.

I won't try to characterize what "most of us prefer", but I will say that after many of years of full-timing with an adjustable regulator, I changed over to a fixed, high-volume regulator and now very much prefer it. They are compact, less expensive, and work very well. I use this High Flow Fixed Water Pressure Regulator from the RV Water Filter Store. My experience is that "most folks" with adjustable regulators set them once and then never again mess with them. I had one, but I got tired of the bulk, the need to occasionally re-build them, the fact that the pressure gauge will be damaged in a freeze and need to be replaced, etc.

Just to clarify: A water pressure gauge is different than a regulator. Some regulators have gauges, but many do not. There is not really a reason to have a gauge unless you have an adjustable regulator and want to adjust it to a specific pressure. If you have a pre-set regulator you don't need a gauge.

I suspect that this is an old site that hasn't been updated. For about a year after closing Hitchhiker down, they had Excel (I think) building for them. Then Excel went out of business and that was the end of that. I haven't heard of anything since. Kansas RV Center isn't even stocking RVs any more.

My guess is that he got banned. This type of trolling (join, make several replies, go back and edit reply to include commercial link) has gotten a bit more common on the forum, but is easy to recognize. I've reported several and they've all been removed pretty quickly.

Teri and I traveled to Costa Rica for two weeks in July, and just got back from a couple of weeks in Ecuador. We are scheduled to visit Colombia (South America) in February, a trip that will by then have been delayed almost two years. We are both fully vaccinated and will get boosters when available and appropriate. The airports and airlines are taking sensible precautions, and the foreign countries we've visited are frankly doing a better job of masking and social distancing than we see here in Texas. Our activities center around birding, hiking, and photography, and those activities are all outdoors and socially distanced. We are still taking sensible precautions, but we are getting on with our lives. We have additional trips planned within the US, but are always ready to change plans or pull the plug if indicated. The vast majority of hospitalizations and serious illness are among the unvaccinated, so we feel relatively safe. But nothing is 100%.

I've not owned one, but the Chevy 6.0L engine was produced for ten years (until 2019) and has an excellent reputation for reliability. The 2018 Commercial Vehicle Guide from Chevy shows the E4500 chassis used for RV's can come with two different transmissions, depending on the wheelbase of the chassis. Both transmissions include a tow/haul mode and grade braking, so should be similar to what you had in your Ford.

We had an occasion at a South Texas RV park where we paid for a week (electricity included in the rate), and then extended for another week at the same rate, only to be charged for electricity for both the first and second weeks when we checked out!! When I called to fix what I thought to be a mistake, I was told that all stays of over a week pay for electricity separately. No matter that I'd paid two separate weekly rates!!

Unfortunately Kansas RV Center is no longer supporting the Hitchhiker trailers at anywhere near the level that they previously were. The last time I called to get slide seals (two years ago) I was told that they no longer maintained the records based on VIN numbers, nor were they stocking or selling replacement parts for Hitchikers. They had formerly been amazing about pulling the VIN number and supplying parts and information, but they told me that so much time had passed that they would no longer be providing that support. I ended up getting my slide seals from a vendor on Amazon. I hope that some of the maintenance guys are still around to answer questions, but I wouldn't count on it. To the OP: On our 2012 Hitchiker Discover America there was a process to bypass the electrical system and use a drill to "manually" drive the hydraulic pump. Our pump sat in a recess below the floor of the large forward storage compartment. If yours is the same way, you should be able to remove the "hatch" cover and access the pump. Mine had a plug on the pump that could be removed that allowed access to a drive shaft to manually run the pump. I never needed to try to procedure, but you might be able to figure something out. Also, it would still be necessary to have the correct valve open or else you could end up pulling the slide in rather than extending it out. I no longer have the trailer, nor the manuals, sorry. But for sure the best approach would be to contact Kansas RV Center and hope that there is someone left there to assist you.

On our Grand Designs trailer the switch for the rope light on the front of the trailer is actually down in the storage compartment, and not with any of the other switches. I have bumped them on just by moving things in that compartment. I plan to disconnect the power to those lights permanently as I really dislike them.

And it doesn't bother me one iota. Any more than the reduction of post counts that has occurred several times with software updates does. It simply doesn't matter. It becomes very clear, very quickly who the active posters on this site are, with or without badges. Look at the few folks that have reached "collaborator" level at this time. None of them come as a surprise to me. Research has shown that presenting statistics, accruing points, and earning ranks or levels on social media sites increases user engagement. It doesn't occur with every user, and especially in the case of entrenched users can create the kind of backlash that we are seeing from a few on this site. But overall, across the board, it is likely to result in more posts and a sense of accomplishment or achievement for some. These platforms don't create or implement these changes in a vacuum. There is a reason for them...

Almost every other forum that I frequent has some version of this. I don't care if it is a photography forum, a truck forum, a disc golf forum, etc. they likely utilize some type of counter and "ranking" system. The only reason that this is getting any attention at all is that it is a recent change, and folks react to change. This forum has presented post counts for as long as I have been on it. Do those bother you as well??

It is simply a new "add-on" that tracks your number of posts, since the recent software update. Post more and your "rank" increases.
