  1. I retired when I was 56 years old. I put 35 years in as a Fire Fighter and loved everyday of it. I used to hear the younger people I worked with say "I can't wait to retire". It's been almost 21 years since I retired and I say to those young people, don't push it as it will come soon enough and you will not be in the shape you are in now. The aches and pains will increase as you age. I have a sign in the family room that says, "inside of every old person is a young person who says what the hell happened". My wife and I are now selling the 5er and truck and will downsize to a SUV. We enjoy retirement but the Golden Years are sometimes not so Golden. So don't push it, it'll come soon enough. Plan for it and when it does come hopefully you'll be ready financially and mentally. Stay safe all.
  2. I had a DZ ticket then an AR ticket and now am down to G ticket . Are you sure that you need that AR? The weight restrictions had changed and that's why I dropped down to a D and then to a G and still tow the same 5er with a 1 ton dually. Look up what you can tow with a G. The walk around was doing a circle check as if you are a semi driver, lights, tires etc. Get the drivers hand book for an AR if you have to get it. Another thing I did was follow a semi on a road test to see where they drove for the test and it was always the same route. Good luck
  3. I have to jump in here. I'm a lurker and always enjoy reading the posts here. I have been to the Columbia ice fields since I was a kid travelling with my parents. The first time I went there we could reach the ice by walking over the highway and onto the ice. Over the years it has melted so much that you have to catch one of the buses that will take you up to the ice field. The mountains always show you how very small we are in this world of ours. I'm 77 years old now and my wife and I have decided that it's time to sell the 5er and dually and get a SUV.
  4. A 3/4 ton can pull those trailers until the cows come home but can it take the wieght over the rear axle? The GVWR will tell you that and I doubt that you'd be within the GVWR of the 3/4 ton. I pulled a 35 ft 5th wheel with a 3/4 ton and I was over the GVWR by a few hundred pounds and really didn't feel comfortable. We bought a 1 ton dually, crew cab, long box and the comfort range went way up. Do your homework and get a truck that will do the job and is safe. Putting air shocks or bags under the rear end does not change the GVWR at all. It just makes the rear end level up. Be safe.
  5. I told my wife I would boost her up also. My wife is left handed and French and she has backhand with follow through technology. I will never say boost again....
  6. My wife's PT stopped when she reached 120 degrees. That's on both knees. I was her coach when the physio wasn't here. She would have strangled me at the time but after she thanked me for helping her out. It's not fun but the rewards can be great if you cooperate.
  7. I have a friend who ruptured a disc just by simply bending down to pick up a piece of paper. He just left the doctor's office after surgery to repair another ruptured disc and was on his way home. Strange things happen.
  8. Like the others, I have been around for about 9 months or so. One day , if I could talk the better half into it, I will get an HDT but in the mean time this forum has a great amount of info for us lurkers as well as the regulars. Thanks to all of you for your knowledge.
