  1. Smokey! IIRC, it was a matter of ordering the reverse bits. Now, there is no team based innovation which is a loss to those of us who can spin a wrench. The closest thing, but it for long, is robot “fighting”. When I started racing, the rules were typed on one page. But most were doing their own work. There were a few house cars, but with the skinny tires, it was not most $ had the best chance. The person with the Sam Brown belt on was the deciding factor. With no roll bars and needing to work on off days, slide jobs were not a thing, nor was a wad it up - oh well, roll another piece out of the hauler.
  2. Federal is a different animal. For instance, I have it coming up in CA. Can only postpone once, which I did because of a planned trip. Of course, if called in, I will likely get dismissed if the attorneys are not zombies, because I read, including the fillings listed on the court site. The court I am obligated to has a great contact system and replies timely.
  3. Gubmint costs x to operate. Those who earn under the table or otherwise cheat, someone (those who are honest) have to make up the shortfall. Under reporting hit self employed HARD during COVID as they could not prove their full income to get Covid Bennies. Under reporting also means paying less into ss and Medicare. Ss under report is self harming, and harms spouse and potentially offspring. Under reporting for Medicare hurts all.
  4. Not a trend. Businesses accepting cards always factor in their merchant fees. Those that pay cash or check, some feel it is a bonus. But, managing cash and checks has a cost too.
  5. Bionic flex manual says do not leave under pressure when not in use. Would still work for me as I only use hose to fill tank, not as constant feed.
  6. The interesting to me moral issue is tip via card. The merchant has to pay fees on the tips, and in some cases, deducts the fee. But if you give cash, you can be helping enable tax fraud.
  7. Where we like to kayak close to home, there is a couple dollar fee box. We use a check for security reasons. If it gets cashed, we have proof and can fight a ticket. As a merchant, the fees are extreme as the high reward cards cost more to accept, but we just build the cost in, like all do. If someone were to send me a check, it is a 3% bonus for us.
  8. Not using a rebate card is giving money away, as well as giving away fraud protection.
  9. One of our greyhounds had to have all 42 teeth removed. Still chomped kibble. Many of the ex racers need extensive dental if they get freed. One broken leg, depending on the injury, locality, skill, and equipment of the vet, can easily be near 10k. Same for an amputation due to cancer.
  10. I would not have a dog without pet insurance. Prevents the big bills, and if managed well, is not too expensive. We look at 10k being the high end for an illness or injury and arrange savings and insurance to be able to cover that amount at all times. Even our rescued Macau ex racer was able to be insured, although we never were able to use it in the short time before her passing. We downsized dogs this time, both are at or under 40lb. We are in a better financial position so we have injury only insurance on these two rescues (from the meat market in China). The one has front ligament issues as he was strung up for sale by his front legs. KEEP in mind, what you can physically handle in 10 years. A larger dog may be too much to safely handle, even on leash. (Something all reputable adoption locations will, no matter how uncomfortable, discuss.)
  11. Something you can lift in and out of vehicles now, and in 10 years. Not all will want to jump, and as they age (really most of the time) the thumping or jumping down is tough on their front end.
  12. I check ours once a month. No different, for me, than checking the hot tub and swim spa. We do not drink from the rv tank, which makes it easier.
  13. Invented to get plenty of come back work.
  14. Nope. Compare to the Tesla model 3 manual worth lipo. Charge and use as desired. The small loss from keeping charge and calendar loss is relatively insignificant over the life of the batt. i have lipo in the rv which keep at 100%. Maybe 5% loss after 24 months. Tesla has 2% loss over a year. Tesla warrants for 8 years or 120k. One can buy a third party warranty to double it. lipo means we don’t have to be a slave to batt monitoring. added. My drone batts self discharge to 40/60% after about a week. Designed into the bms. I think they had issues with early batts swelling and have left this “feature” in even though the current batt formula likely does not need it. Of course, many buy and use off brand chargers, so the batt self protecting is not a bad thing.
  15. Nothing here for me either. I took mine apart, the material had not decayed. I do not use the cleaning process said to cause the issue. I got a new scrip and a different brand machine. My personal risk was likely nil. Especially compared to all the brake shoe dust I inhaled in the 60’s.
  16. Consider upgrading the wires too. Likely sized bare minimum. Will spin the starter easier and charge easier.
  17. On the coasts, dishy points towards the ocean. Slightly inland, we are 60 miles in, it points NW (or NE for the right coasters). It is about spreading the load and leaving more birds for the inlanders.
  18. Process of elimination. Start by eliminating stated which tax SS. Then look at states which work for your medical coverage. Many will say the big 3 are TX, SD, and FL. After those three, there is likely a secondary set to look at. Some will also consider red/blue issues, gun laws, etc.
  19. From the back bed, I would have to pass the stove and refer (likely fire starter big locations) and bend down to get the stock bottle. That is what is pointless. I have two small handheld breathable bottles on the back, one on each side of the bed. And two on the top bunk over the cab. For the back bed, we can drop out the window, but I might want to go forward to help others out (one to get forward, the second to get out).
  20. The advice tied so well into life experience trying to save drivers from race car fires. Gasoline fire is one thing. Methanol is another, and one which takes unusual ideas such as being prepared and willing to drag vehicle away from fuel pool. And being aware of the way to spot methanol fire. We’ve come a long way since the 50’s. I think most people, unless trained, should use a safety spray to get out, not to try to suppress. The new sprays are excellent and breathable But we go backwards on occasion IMO. The maker of my rv put a bottle at floor level by the door, completely useless unless someone was coming in to try to suppress.
  21. I thought of him recently. New people staying in the every with us. Showed them the hand held fire suppressor (breathable) under their pillow and that the door would not be locked. In other words, spray their way out, and we would get out the back window. Don’t wait for us and don’t try to put out a fire.
  22. What you write does not matter. What matters is what a scanner reads and matches to the database. No one is human reading addresses during verification or mail processing. USPS offers a “street” address for some of their pro box locations. Allows receiving packages some sellers will not send to app box.
  23. Tochta. Ours is a split mattress. Half slides over the other half. One half is an inch taller than the other. Give them your specs and firmness preference, and they will recommend the proper innards.
  24. Motorola recently released a satellite sms device. I added one to my tools since one of our back country hiking kids took our spot device. iphone 14 and later have satellite 911 capability, which is likely acceptable to use if in a dangerous spot.
  25. Most of the tow you can buy are call centers. Meaning they outsource the actual tow to whatever company accepts the offered price. When you hear of long waits, it is because no truck accepted the offered price, and the provider is trying g to wait them out before offering more. Some will just arrange their own, and try to get reimbursed. So there are no fmca, Sam, escapes, or coach net trucks. You can call the same heavy tow services they can. Coach net is said to have better lists of two services and understanding of what you will need and will usually send the right equipment the first time (not a one ton!) and is said to have better relationships (meaning more fair pay outs) with heavy haulers. One thing to remember, if you are not in a safe place, call the proper police and get an immediate rotation tow. If you have tow coverage, you can likely get reimbursed. Don’t be on the side of the road, with others whizzing by, while waiting for a pre paid tow. And be ready to step in and make your own arrangements. An emergency charge card and some emergency cash rides with us in our firearm safe. —- If in a state or national park, they may have basic services available. Then you can arrange more if needed. Yosemite, for example, has a tow service to their garage. I saw a heavy hauler parked at their garage last week. They will also know what private service will come and get you if needed. Family member had a plastic radiator (auto) break in Yosemite. He limped it to a ranger lot. Rangers let him leave it there for the week of hiking. He could not find (AAA) anyone to tow him home (196 miles, up to 200 covered) so he cobbled a tow out of the park to a tow service which was as willing to bring him home. AAA did not suggest the split tow, the ranger did, since they had dealt with the issue before.
