  1. I have a 2019 GD Solitude 310GK and could not be more pleased with the workmanship and the company support. I went from San Diego to Alaska and back last year, and it held up really well. I wouldn't say nothing broke, but I will say nothing major happened, which is more than I can say for some of the folks I travelled with. At one point the lift for the TV stopped working, and even though it was out of warranty, the company sent me the new parts for free, and I didn't even request that. I called to get the name of their supplier so I could purchase the thing on my own and they just sent it! When I was installing a cell phone booster I called the company and told them where I wanted to drill a hole to bring the cable inside and they pulled up the schematic for my particular rig to be sure there were no wires or framing in the area. They also let me know that the wire I wanted to use to power the unit was big enough to support the extra draw without difficulty. They did that before I drilled into the area that had the wire I wanted to use. That's just my experience, but I think it says a great deal about Grand Design.
  2. I have just under 1000 watts on the roof of my 35' Solitude 5th wheel, run through an MPPT controller and a 3000 watt/120 amp inverter/charger to 3 Lithium Ion batteries. Specifically there are 3 320 watt panels which ran $194 each. The panels are 60" X 40" each. I'm boondocking in the Anza Borrego desert on a lightly overcast day and at 10:00 a.m. the panels are putting out over 30 amps at 13.5 volts, which allows me to run the inverter and still have about 20 amps going into the batteries. Voltage at the panels is currently (no pun intended) at just over 94 volts. I've recorded over 70 amps going into the batteries on a clear day. I boondock about 80% of the time, and although I've only had the solar set up since early December, I've run my genset for a total of 1 hour in that time. We'll see what happens when I get into some rainy climates this summer.
  3. I'm planning on making the trip to Alaska this year also. Like SWharton I'll be leaving from Arizona in late March and planning to be in Alaska no earlier than Memorial Day. This will be my first trip there, so I'd be particularly interested in comments about places not to be missed. I'm set up for boondocking and generally prefer to do that where possible.
