    Rough Road

Holy crap. I-20 around Shreveport west bound is shit. It beat us up bad. Full seat extension for 30 min. Guess my newbie welding on the bed is good 'nuff. Nothing is falling off. Battle tested.
  2. I wonder if someone could explain the differences in tread design. Open, closed shoulder, etc. I'm needing drives. I'm not singled out but I am dropping 2 tires off the front drive axle. Don't need the load capacity and having the tire inset an inch or so (caused by the removal of the inner tire) does not bother me. Thanks
  3. Ditto to what you all have said. I'm struggling with an electrical problem on the road right now. RV waterpump started to be intermittent. Then it quit. Ground checked out. 13.5v at the pump and at the switch. Hmmmm. Ordered a new pump and it would fire up for a few seconds and then quit. Way before gaining line pressure so the cutoff switch could shut it down. Got a new switch, thinking the contacts had given up. Pulled a dedicated 12v line from the battery as a test. Everything is back to normal. Head scratcher here is that in the master control panel where the pump switch resides, the B+ is pulled off a main line, run from the fuse box, that powers several other things. All other connected 'things' work great. It's like there's voltage but the current is lacking on the pump wire. It's going to be less than fun, but I'm thinking of pulling a new wire from the switch to the pump when we get to Tucson in a week or so, landing for 2 weeks. Electrical problems are not high on the fun meter... and RVs are not wired like aircraft...but should be.
  4. A trucker I met in Oregon at a truck wash (Kenworth long nose with every chrome and aluminum option in the catalog PLUS a polished alum covered-wagon trailer) said he uses a 50-50 mix of white vinegar and water. This is after they are polished for maintenance. Seems to work, taking off the oxidation. But it's for regular maintenance. If the wheels are not shiny anymore, it's buffer and big mess time. I also use White Diamond liquid compound. You can find it in most auto parts stores. That really brings back the shine, cutting through the oxidation. Brings diamond plate back as well. Wheels are work to keep looking nice. Choice: little bit of work done regularly or a LOT of work done every once and a while.
  5. We did get a chance to drop into Lambert's. That is an experience. Singlehanded, they are making America fat. That was a LOT of food... and the flying rolls are just the way I like them, plus huge. Thanks for the tip.
  6. Got one. Stone Mountain Campground. 30 min N.E. of Atlanta. Whew.
  7. We're headed to Atlanta, Ga in a few weeks. Seems it's spring break and all the RV parks I can find (that you would want to stay in) are booked within a 25-mile radius. We are wanting to spend a week in the area and have no problem with driving 30+ min to get into the city. We can boondock for a week if needs be. Suggestions welcome.
  8. We moved north east out of Gulf Shores, Al.. Now on hwy 20 headed to New Brunswick, N.C. We'll park there for a month...then, maybe, Tucson. We taking the most direct route ya know.
  9. Cool. We're in the lazy lake rv park in Bon Secoure (Gulf Shores). Drove by your place on the way to the hospital north of there. We should get the trucks together and compare.
  10. Bailed on Visible. Went to T-mobile. Because we have been long time family plan members, (old plan) they moved us up the Magenta family plan and the additional unlimited tablet plan was a +$20/mo. Cool. Put the sim in and it just works. We're not in a great T-mobile coverage area, but still getting very useable speeds. AT&T prepaid speeds are better at times. It will ebb and flow.
  11. Sorry...59. Same road as the expressway.
  12. Sorry we missed you folks. We're just up the road off 58 from there. Be here until the end of January.
  13. Saw this truck in an rv park on hwy 65 around Foley, Alabama. Any idea who's it is? Sticker on the side says "toy truck. Not for hire"
  14. Guess that's good if you're full time. We're not.
  15. It's a FedEx delivery so forwarding is not possible, I think.
  16. Tried to get a Visible phone and card. Wow. What a cluster F&^@*. How do you all get the service when your billing and shipping address does not match? They are so totally behind the times for eBusiness. "we are trying to protect our customers security..." they texted back. So easy to do with all other eCommerce sites in the world. I guess Verizon isn't up to speed on current things going on when ordering on line. After all it is an totally on line business where you will not see or speak to a human. 5+hrs of trying to just get a phone and card resulted in nothing. - Opened an account months ago. Got back to it yesterday to order service. They "Terminated" the account.... and they can't reinstate it. What? Really! Now that is customer service. Answer... "get a new email account and open a new account." - Did that, and ordered the phone and card. Paid via PayPal. Got a "it's on it's way" screen. Then nothing. No transaction, no order pending. - Got on their customer service chat thing. Just a heads up, it will be an hour wasted anyway you cut it. Their answer.... wait for it...."why not get another email address and open a new account?" Why? Because you can't have a shipping address that does not match your billing address. So I will need to have it shipped to my house (1800 miles away), then impose on a neighbor to reship it to me. Which the Christmas shipping rush, not going to get the phone/card until new years. So the customer support person/texting said they "would review the order and get back to me in 5-8 business days". Wow. What does this say..."we really don't want you as a new customer, so we're ordering out for pizza and will get back to you." I have options. Now looking into them. I have AT&T prepaid for now. We burn through that 100 gigs fairly fast. Need a backup. Rant over. Hope this is helpful.
  17. Well, I just went through the second software/firmware update hell. This system is only for those who have a high tolerance to hitting ones fingers with a hammer and saying 'geeze, I think I will try that again'. Tech support (Frank) did get back to me with a link to an already well read FAQ on how to install for the first time. But that was useless because the system was in total software meltdown. To the point that I could no longer get into the software. Additional emails to Insty folks have yet to be answered. I was a bit pissed at what I was seeing/experiencing. It was 5 hrs of hell. I shut the thing off, had dinner, fired it back up and somehow it now thinks it's a new install....with one really bad twist. It thinks it has a password already setup. Fresh installs don't. And it is not the password I setup earlier. ...again. So locked out...totally. But I found a hole in the security and got around that. Now it is working. When it works... which it has been solid 90% of the time, it performs darn well. However, if you need to figure out what all the tweaky stuff in the menus does...good luck. You can dig through the knowledge base and eventually find this stuff out but be ready for a slog. Would I buy it again over some of the other options.... 50-50. If you are somewhat techy... go for it. If you are tech-adverse... find other options.
  18. I've been in derate twice due to bad sensors and a corroded data connector. Pulled fuse 11 under the hood and disconnected the driveline speed sensor on the tailshaft of the trans. No turbo. 57mph max speed, but you're moving again.
  19. I was thinking the same about the check valve. We just turn off the valves when not using the washer, now.
  20. Not taking any offense. I had no clue the system would/could do this. Just thought I'd share my experience. As I found it both weird & frustrating. Hope it was helpful to someone.
  21. Good points and no question it's not ideal. But no restraints would be worse (and illegal in all states) for the passangers. We obviously opted for the sideways, belted position for the 3 or 4 times a year we have passengers.
  22. A thread I started on the same topic a while back.
  23. Soooo, we're learning our new-to-us 2013 Keystone Fuzion 315 toyhauler. We've had it on the road for a few weeks shaking it down, things are good. We'll we have unlabeled factory 12v switches in the garage, but that's not plumbing. The rig has a wash hookup. We scored one of those apartment top-loader units that connect to the sink faucet. Price was right...free. And we tested it out at the house before hitting the road. Workshttps://www.rvnetwork.com/forum/6-technical-tips-and-tricks/?do=add great. But these units only have one water input which is fine if you hook it to a faucet where you control the water temp via the faucet. Simple fix. Found a 'Y' hose on eBay and it fit/worked perfectly. So on the road we decide to do laundry. Same as the test load, wash washed fine. Cool. The next morning went to take a shower and the shower only put out luke warm water. Hmmmm. The sink in the bathroom put out full hot water (it's right over the hot water tank) for about 30 seconds then the water went luke warm. Kitchen sink... luke warm water. Now I jump into trouble shooting mode: - check water heater breaker.... good - Check power to water heater element...check Water in tank is warm. Now it gets interesting. Turn on the bathroom sink faucet on hot, then turn on the shower at the same time. The sink faucet goes luke warm, the shower goes full hot. Turn on the kitchen sink and the shower, kitchen goes luke warm, shower goes full hot. Now I am fully puzzled. On my way out the back door of the garage where the washer is located, I notice some water seeping from the hose connector to the washer. I wipe if off, and then turn off the hot and cold water to the washer. I head outside to further futz with the water heater. Then I hear the wife say "hay, I have have hot water in the kitchen..... and the bathroom.... it's back to normal." So what happened to fix it? Apparently the 'Y' hose adapter became a flow-through to the lower pressure side of the system. If you turned on the hot water anywhere in the trailer, that side of the system is now lower in pressure than the other and the cold water 'back flowed' through the 'Y' on the washing machine, allowing the cold water to replace and mix with the hot. And by shutting off the water supply valves to the washer, back flow issue solved. Guess I could put back flow preventers in line with the hoses, but simply turning off the water spigots is simple/cheap fix. Go figure. Interesting RV plumbing problem, consuming a few hours, solved.
