  1. I used to drive it on but now use a removable portable winch that attaches to flat bed. Use to get alot of gaukers. Don't even think about it if planks are wet. Had a big block behind sleeper in case couldn't get stopped.
  2. I live in Michigan and have an older 359 Pete. Use an antique plate and have a declared value on truck.
  3. I,ve had good luck parking on stones with a sand base with good drainage.
  4. Built my own and everything is bolted on jusy like the flat bed.
  5. Time to get out a few tools. Inverters need cooling ability.
  6. Like DesertMiner says and can happen with all makes of diesels where the injector and the line feeding it is inside the valve cover.
  7. HELLO- be carefull- Had a blow out and tore off siding-fender flare-etc. My rv is on with my jeep and dually. The dirty #%!^*&^ went and raised my jeep and dually ins. over $400.00 per yr. I did the work myself and know what the parts cost. They will have there money back in a couple yrs. Win Win for them. They don't tell you this upfront.
  8. I try to avoid the rain. My air wipers will drive you crazy. They do have electric conversions for $$$. Me and wife like our new leather with backrest seats. My Pete's 34 yrs. young and everything works. Will hold air for a week and suspension couple months. Could sell for 2x what I got into it. Don't have to worry about falling asleep driving it though.
  9. They don't make them like they used too. I'll stick with my older Cat 3406b. Its all mechanical. Only thing electrical is the starter and fuel shut off. The fuel shut off can be manually bypassed. Will start and run without batteries. Give it a push or pull and let out clutch and its running. With close to a million miles no engine work. The alternator and some ac parts have been replaced. Old School Baby
  10. The only way I know mines behind my Pete is the boost gage may come off 0 on a hill. I only pull 12,000lbs.
  11. Had a fatal heart attack and by the will of god brought back and to hospital. Come to in intensive care. Docter introduces himself and tells me I am a lucky man. I take his hand and thank him. When will I be as good as new? Why you ask? Well I go to drag races. When's your next race? This weekend. He didn't know what to say. My daughter says Dad you embarrass me. I went back to sleep.
  12. Too be real nice have sand one way working up to 2000-2500 grit. 3M polishing compound-same as used on paint also workd great on aluminum. I just da-ed my fuel tanks because the dings where just too deep. If you don't get the dings out the polishing will just make them stand out more.
  13. I live in Mi. and pull my racecar with a Peterbilt 359 with antique plates. Use to have Gulfway Insurance and now state farm. No CDL also. The only one I know of was Jegg's with their huge bug yellow rig with their name on side getting a big ticket for not having a CDL driver. Hello your commercial advertizing a business. I think my buddy just put a porta potti in his Freightliner. Funny thing the SOS just played dumb with me saying just get it weighed for $$$.
  14. No way to just sand and respray. Will need to be sanded and new base coat (color) and then clear coat.
  15. Glad you got it working. In my old age have found just replace one part at a time and not just throw parts at it. I would have tried a gas lighter to eliminate a gas valve problem-circuit board.

    Air leak help

Kids bubbles works great for finding leaks. Pump your brakes and see which needle goes down. That will be one side of system but are really one. 5 minutes is a long time to go from 105-120#. My old 1984 Pete will go from 0-120# in way less time. The old girl will hold air for a week. The suspension for couple months. It even has air wipers. I think I may still have a leak inside transmission. They used the flare style fitting back then with rubber hose. 35 yrs. old and have only replaced a few of the small gauge and wiper lines.
  17. Higher gears may not reduce gas mileage if vehicall was working harder and know has found a sweeter spot. May have to drop a couple mph. My 6.7 Ford diesel will start out at 14-14.5 mpg at 60 mph and will drop from there. It will actually do better in hills than on flat ground. All that power doesn't bother it going up hill and then its just coasting going down the other side. An engine is just an air compressor than needs a ratio of fuel mixed with air to run. More rpms means more fuel
  18. Sound like your the guy that's forgot more than most will know. Good Luck
  19. Depends on tire size and final transmission ratio. If you got the power lower rpm's are better. My old Cat makes the most torque and hp at 1450 rpm's and it purrs and runs quieter at thet rpm but it was ordered to pull and thus the 3.90 gears. Trucks today make big power (torque) and run at lower rpm's to save fuel and make money.
  20. I just drive my old Cat at 60-65 mph. Would I wish I could run at 1450 rpm's (max torque and hp and where the Cat purr's) yes but will just have to do 1700-1750 rpm's. I would have to change two rear ends and only the speedometer adapter. Too much $$$ knowing it was run more than likely at least 60-65 mph. most of its 1,000,000 miles. I only put 2k-3k a yr. on the ol girl.

  23. We started with a crown and ended up with three kids. Pulled it with a 1973 Jeep cj 5 (still have the jeep) Put a zillion miles on it and lots of fond memories. Went camping on my honeymoon in 1972 and still got same wife and indoor plumbing now.
