  1. As to files, I was always told not to put them in a pile because they dulled each other.
  2. I live off grid and run, almost, everything on solar, I do use the generator for the welder and I will use one of the small generators for saws and stuff in the winter. I have a 10k propane generator I would have to look but I think is a generic or onan. It's 10 or so years old it probably runs 10 hours a week in January but that is so weather dependent, it needs to be cloudy 2 days to need it. My house, 2 storys 28x28, runs very well on 6000watts of inverter power. I have 220 deep well pump, microwave, 4 big TVs, Starlink, 3 refrigerators and an tiny house for my parents. I can easily run the house with my 6000 or 6500 Yamaha and still charge my batteries backup. My old house in Vermont, were in Arizona now, was 5500 square feet with 10 adults living there, I had a 6 braker generator isolator panel, I higly recomed using one it's much easier than words, I did that for years. I ran all the neaded stuff with the Yamaha. So I find it doubtful that you need a bigger one than I have unless your heat requires it. As to propane v gas unless you are willing to refresh your stored gas every 2 months propane is a lot easier. Mine has taken to starting very hard but it always started easy until recently. The one problem I do have, and it would be the same for any standby generator I think, is keeping the battery charged, as it has a 110 charger and I try not to use it, I have a solar panel on it and I have been very suprised how much the elctronics draw.
  3. Many people confuse a weight distribution hitch for sway control, the Hensley hitch. It has a new name, has both and works. I cant think of any benefit to weight distribution with an HDT but the cam style sway control that Reeise developed seems to work and it does require the distribution bars. I might be concerned that the truck might overload the trailer frame under some circumstances. With a HDT load distribution, in the trailer, will not be a problem and with adequate hitch weight sway should be a minor issue, but still a possibility. I have also used fiction sway control and all though they are not as effective as the others they are a inexpensive third place alternative, no bars required and if the trailer is bigger two can be used. I have a Shocker hitch on my gooseneck and a Gen-y for my bumper pull. I went Gen-y because Shocker didn't offer enough drop for my application. Both work well and I wouldn't be without one or the other. I like the adjustable air bag on the Shocker but I also like that I dont have to check the Gen-y.
  4. After installing a macerator pump on my trailer I wouldn't want to be without just for regular dumping, my trailer is low. You won't be sorry if you put one in even if you dont need it for your daughters.
  5. I guess it's TRUE I never have an original thought. It probably cost more than my house. Old Vermont farmers used to make trailers out of old trucks leaving the drivetrain intact and hitching them to the tractor PTO for added traction, especially in the wooded hills. I have seen stuck trucks and trailers that could have gotten out with a powered trailer.
  6. I have always thought someone would come out with trailer drive axles. Regenerative braking and a boost for going up hill or passing could have it place especially if you drive an ev. Not much use for those of us with an HDT. Although the regenitive braking used to charge house batteries might be nice, more to fail though.
  7. saw a guy on TV stealing a car that way using a old blood pressure cuff.
  8. The thing I dont like about my Google 6 is no sd slot. I will probably look for a different brand that has one next time. It does take great pictures.
  9. Diesel will jell in the cold but it un jells when it gets worm again so no need for winter mix unless you are going to run it. I always try to store with a full tank there is less condensation. I have a old farm tractor that likes to produce water, it was seldom left full, some times I would get half a cup by spring. That was in Vermont so far in Arizona not a drop.
  10. I would be hesitant to run as much as you indicated might have been running on 30 amps but more so if it's a 50 amp system using a 30 amp adapter. The multi plus might have been trying to make up the extra needed.
  11. You wont see much with 5 watts, you will basically have 2 175 watt panels. In my opinion that's not worth a second charge controller. If you had several 180 panels and then added a 175 it would be a different story.
  12. I have an 20 volt Dewalt 1/2" impact as well as several 18 volt Dewalt tools and quite a few Ridged 18 and 20 volt tools. There are adaptors for virtually any combination of brand and battery. I havent gotten them all yet but I do have a 20 volt to 18 volt Dewalt one and it works great.
  13. I bought a new torque bar from the dealer in Vermont before my last trip to Arizona, with the 1 ton Duramax this was a dream trip in comparison to the Volvo the trailers were almost identical weight. Now just need time to install.
  14. I would be ecstatic if mine stayed up 1 hour, and I mean the entire system not the rear bags, I have to let the truck air up if I stop for lunch.
  15. Well mine has a crack about 2 inches long in the flat of the rim. I put a pice of tape, I cant re,ember the name but its black, thick, stretchy and has held air for 2 months now. It's a 2008 and I am going to check out Tire Rack.
  16. Forgot I found the Smart key now to find someone who can cut a new one. I also need a rear rim I will start a new post with a picture, I hope. One has a crack in it very small but it leaks air, or did until I put some great tape on it.
  17. Sorry I havent gotten back to anyone I have this site on a tablet and I just got internet this past weekend so I charged it up. Many of the suggestions were on my list but some were not so thanks everyone for your input. A few I can answer now. It's better bobtailing but not much that may be because I can't go as fast as on the interstate. Tires don't seam to have any odd wear I haven't had anything balanced or aligned. Wheel base is 182 and was 230 ish, it's been 4 years so the memory may be off on that, I just moved the rear axle to the front to single. At the present I am working around the house so I would not have time for any research, I also live in the sticks, thank goodness, so it will take some time to learn who to go to in the area.
  18. Cant get to sleep so I thought I would tell you my tail. The trip start fine for the first 7 or 8 hours all secondary roads everything seemed fine, then we got on the interstate. Thismis the first time I have had this truck on the interstate with a trailer since I bought it 4? Years ago. It is the worst handling vehicle I have ever driven it feels articulated and has a bad shake between 50 and 60 then stops by 65. We are moving and I didn't have much choise so keep going. Even my wife asked me why the truck was all over the road. About 2 hours of white knuckle driving down the interstate and the truck shuts off and a no oil light comes on. I got it to the side of the road and sure enough no oil on the dipstick but my trailer and the underside of the truck is covered with it. It seams to be comming from the crank case vent. I had 1 gallon with me and that got it started and to them next exit. There was a truck repair shop at the bottom of the exit. Did I mention I am moving, I have 4 horse 2 dogs a parrot and a parakeet in the trailer and its 95 degrees out. The shop was able to fill me up with oil another 4.5 gallons and sell me 4 more but they dont do big stuff, they also knew a stable and she agreed to have me limp there to get the horse about of the heat. The next day I took the truck to a recomended shop they decided, withou looking at it, that in 2 weeks they could do an in frame as they felt it was bad rings. I had clapped a camera under the truck and you could, see the oil pour out the vent every time you worked the engine. I am not new to engines or equipment and there "diagnosis" seemed off to me it was a stream of oil not a mist as I would expect from a bad ring also it was running great just going through 2 gallons of oil every 100 miles. So I called the Volvo dealer in Vermont in two minutes he said it was the spinner. I had to admit ignorance. It's a Volvo D11 by the way. He sId if it's working I should be able to hear it spin just step on the gas and and it off, I heard nothing. I called the nearest Volvo dealer, 35 mile, and they had one $1200. So filled it with oil and drove over picked it up and drove back. The nice aluminium braket didn't want to release the steel screws holding it to the block so I decided to leave that part and just replace the top portion. The old one was solid and the new one spins with just a touch. It's a oil centrifuge run by a jet of oil on a wheel. I never lost a nother drop of oil. I played with my hitch, tire pressure and load distribution but it still handles horable. It's not tracking the ruts it just feels like the rear end is loose. Passing is an absolute nightmare. I have picked up a tourqe bar and will be checking spring bushing this winter. I sure wish I had left it tandem now. And now I have misplaced the only key for the 08 Smart. I will never move again!
  19. I have a different problem, of my own making, I have misplaced my only key for my 2008 Smart. I loaded it on the flatbed and then drove a different truck to our new home in Arizona, from Vermont. I thought I left the key in one of the 3 vehicles in Vermont but now I cant find it! Any way to do away with the stupid chip key and just put in a different switch I may have to lift the car off the trailer next week when I get it to Arizona because I need the trailer.
  20. Look for information on tiny house sites. I can't remember the name but one toilet can use a pipe for the urine. Urin is sterile and will not hurt you or your property it is beneficial to your plants when diluted. Solids are usaly just bagged and put in the trash, but I understand they can be composted as well I believe the term humanuer is used. Give me a year and I will be able to tell you better we are moving to our Arizona property in August and will be turning a shed into a house for our 20 year old son it will have a composting toilet.
  21. "Hollywood Bullets" are those the ones that throw the bad guy across the room but allow the good guy or gal to be back to work the next day?
  22. One thing I have found trailer manufacturers seem to delight in using wire colors other than what they say.
  23. When ours died I found the exact same microwave at Walmart except for the vent. I just changed the case, I threw the new one on a shelf in the garage just incase I needed to return the new one under warranty. It would have been quite easy to make a new vent if needed.
  24. My seats are National 2000 they do have a retainer strap but it is so long that with them full of air they are only snug. I have it in the sliding position already. If I let all the air out I couldn't see over the steering wheel and I'm 5' 10" so that won't work. I am not adverse to a seat change but moving to Arizona, the trip with the U Haul is Saturday then the Volvo with the flatbed and the farm tractor July 1st ish then the 1 ton with the horse trailer the end of July so no time for a seat chainge.
  25. Shocks are all new, I have Donvalves, no air on the front and the seats I cant remember I will look. I don't have this trouble with the farm tractor unless I hit the roof. Lol
