  1. Anyone have pics? You can PM me for safety reasons. I like to see how others manage is all. I'm thinking long guns under the bed and hand guns in the closet in cases.
  2. Secure in a house is still relative as well. I'm just looking to keep little hands and prying eyes out.
  3. So I've been trying to think of secure and safe firearms storage in a 5th wheel and I keep going to the under the bed space. Has anyone done this or something else that was safe and secure? I'm not looking to get into debates about firearms, just secure, responsible storage in a 5th wheel.

    Rent a HDT?

I'm in WA now. The farthest I'd go is FL. The reason I asked is because the wife and I are tossing around the idea of moving into a 5er to save money. Currently living in base housing and we're tired of watching the BAH go to someone else. We want our own stuff, our own place, and an ability to travel. Since we'd be stationary till I transfer, we're trying to weigh if a truck is really needed or if we can wait till I transfer to buy. I want a HDT because I'm also looking down the road to when I retire and we can travel a lot more. I thank y'all for the willingness to help out. I was just seeing if it was possible. If I rented one, how would that be commercial use?

    Rent a HDT?

Is it possible to rent a HDT to move a rig? I'm going to be stationary for awhile, active duty Navy, till I retire. So I'm wondering if it's possible to rent a HDT or a larger pickup set up for towing a larger 5er. Anyone ever done this heard of this, seen this? Any advice or opinions? I feel that hiring someone to move the 5er defeats the purpose of having one lol.
  6. I would love a Luxe lol or even Spacecraft or Forks, but those are way over our budget right now. Unless someone is selling a gently used model lol. They are fantastic rigs though and the wife says if we like this lifestyle, when I retire from the Navy, we could look at getting one.
  7. Would it be possible to rent a truck to move my rig?
  8. So we are starting to get a little more serious about making this work. Looking at a 5th wheel, must have washer/dryer hookups (wife says so ?), and length isn't an issue. We are trying to decide if we need a truck right now (will be stationary at this duty station for 4 years) or if we wait on the truck. So, rear bunk house or mid bunk? We have a one year old and two small dogs, hoping to have at least one more child lol. Pros/Cons of each if you own them. Also, any particular brand? I have a few narrowed down (Grand Design, Open Range, Jayco, Chaparral(?)), if anyone lives in one or has in the past. Looking for the down and dirty on the layouts and usage. Not looking for the toy-hauler route.

  10. I would want the ET hitch but don't know if a dealer would instal it. I'm also looking at a used truck that already has a 5er hitch but it's not an air hitch. I think I could do the wiring myself but not the hitch mounting.
  11. would you be willing to email me so we can chat about the truck?
  12. so I know rv's plug into the truck for power and such, but what is needed to convert a HDT to supply that power? How complicated is the process and what would need to be done, either by myself or a dealer? also, if buying from a dealer (used) how do I change out the hitch to an air ride one that will protect my 5th wheel? I'm trying for figure this out before I buy either lol, so advice and opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance
  13. Looks like i could fit my bikes in there lol or maybe my subaru if the bed was long enough
  14. Thought that only applies if you already had a home anyways, which I don't. I can seem to find about using a rv as primary and getting that tax deduction. Granted I'd have to get a rv loan to do this and that's whatever. I know it's not the best but that's the only way I can make it work.
  15. Alright group, so after calling the bank and finding out it might be possible to go full time and get the trailer and truck i'm looking at, any suggestions on trailers? the wife and i both love the layouts of the bunkhouse models (Grand Design) in particular. We have our daughter now and are looking to try and have a second kid in a year or two so i'm always wondering about kids in the RV and truck. I know i would have to find a way to haul the car and motorcycles when i transfer, but i have four years to figure that out. i am looking at a HDT for towing due to safety of stopping and hauling power. i know this is a continuation of my other post, so feel free to keep me in the loop. i want to hear from families that have kids and how they make it work. I'm also active duty Navy and have 4.5 years at my current duty station. After that I'll PCS to who knows where at this point.

  17. If there was a space to put our daughter and possibly another child it could work, but the wife really likes the bunkhouse layouts for having kids.
  18. Artywolf, We don't like the MH idea as it would cost about as much if not more than a 5er and truck. Depending on the truck we can load the subie on or have her drive. Don't really want her to drive it. Could always double tow it all
