We are already planning next years trip. We are going to dry camp at Nomads View on the way there and spend some time in the Badlands. Then at least a week in and around Custer State Park. On a side note, I'm amazed at the advertising spin that a lot of these campgrounds have on there websites. I'm looking at websites and comparing them to google earth and wondering how the dump place we drove by could be what the website is claiming. There seem to be 2 common levels of campground, Roadside cow pastures with some hookups or High dollar luxury resorts. Nothing in between.

I called them this morning for a treadle valve and a relay valve for my vnl. Service via the phone was prompt and friendly. He actually sounded like he wanted to meet the needs of his customers. I'll use them again for sure.

My volvo dealer cannot even look up light bulbs. Took them 3 tries to get an oil pressure sensor. no kidding 3 tries. I gave up on the bulb and spent hours online till I found it.

I think I'm in need of a foot valve for my 98 vnl. anybody have a parts catalog I could get the correct number from?

I gotta Say that this is SOUND advice. We each got a filet and a spaetzle for the table. What a wonderful evening out. We always try to have dinner at the camper, and we eat out generally once per trip. This was AWESOME. We stayed at Beaver Lake campground. The campsite was nice and level. water was clean. power was good. the cell phone reception is non existent and the wifi is a joke. one of the work kampers put a wifi repeater and a cell phone booster in one of the picnic pavilions so you could sit and use it. All in all it was worth the price. In the future I would stay in the Hill City area as everything we wanted to do meant driving the 20 miles to hill city. We had a list of things we wanted to do and see but we threw it out once we got there. We did take the time to see rough lock falls and cement ridge. We also spent a few hours at Mt Rushmore. Beyond that we spent our time driving the roads in and around Custer State park. What a fantastic view. The falls are beautiful, but they don't compare to the view from the fire tower at Cement Ridge. I was discussing this with a (very large) Polaris tour group from SC and they ended up meeting us up there. so over 40 of us owe you our thanks. The weather was pretty awesome as well. we had mornings in the 40s and afternoons in the 70s and 80s. It sure was hard coming back to high 90s here in Florida. All of the rain and hail was in the late evening after we were in for the day. So I would like to thank each of you for good advice. It made a good trip even better

Glad to hear you are still alive and well. I thought about posting something controversial like "not for hire" decals to rattle your cage.

No worries, just took it as information. it's not like you sent me the message. BTW I LIKE a Prius. I need the extra gas for all of my toys. But I still wouldn't own one. life's too short to drive boring cars.

This photo wasn't even taken during an overnight stop. we simply stopped for dinner. It's a common spot since we have friends nearby and we LOVE good southern cooking. I have used this very spot multiple time with no issues. There is plenty of room for even the largest semi to get around everybody. In fact the 2 coaches on the other side arrived after we did and had no trouble getting in. It bothers me that someone would get up on their soap box and harass someone else based on a picture with no context. Makes me think that he's very lonely inside and needs a friend. I will gladly save room for his prius and buy him a cup of coffee.

Once I added a 20' Featherlite trailer (to bring my Prius along), my overall length went from 40' to 64'. That's too long for the RV spots found at most Cracker Barrel (where I believe you were when you took that picture). I would ask that you do NOT use RV spots at Cracker Barrel when your trailer is hooked up. It's clear in your picture that Both the front and rear of your set up extend into traffic lanes (which ARE used by delivery and garbage trucks) at least partially blocking said lanes. When my trailer is is hooked up, I'll park at the far end of the parking lot (which does mean I'll take up ~ seven "standard" parking stalls) but, doing it that way means I do NOT block any traffic lanes (I also plan to arrive at non-peak hours). If it's not possible to for me to park without blocking a travel lane, I move on. I've seen quite a few Cracker Barrel stores that abut a Home Depot store. Home Depot lots, in my experience, always have lots of space; I park on the Home Depot side and walk over the grass to Cracker Barrel (although I doubt you'd be allowed to overnight at Home Depot). Cracker Barrel already has many locations posted " NO SEMI TRUCK PARKING. When we "big boys" extend into traffic lanes, we're giving Cracker Barrel a good reason to end the courtesy of RV parking. Many Denny's locations have actual truck parking (as well as WiFi availability inside). This is just one way big rig operators must adapt in ways "regular" RVs don't have to. Please do not be part of the problem. Wishing you safe travels!" So a member here decided to be "courtesy police" and complain about my parking. 1. Have you been to the Cracker Barrel in the picture? 2. where is the primary drive aisle? 3.where is the secondary drive aisle 4. why should I change restaurants when the one I already chose accommodates me just fine. 5. Why should I trespass on another business and risk getting towed away? Why would I block 7 standard parking spaces (your words) instead of taking a space assigned for the task at hand. 6. Is your sanctified judgement good enough from a picture to determine how much of the drive aisle is blocked? or how much remains for another RV or Semi to clear my Rv? 7. Do you not have anything better to do than to cruise the internet and complain about others 8. really? a Prius?

So this is WAY more information than I need. what an AWESOME map/gazetteer. Now to find one for some of the other states we like to visit. No more boring highways for us!

Thanks Kirk, I looked at the maps from the DOT and found they didn't cover the back roads very well. I like to explore, so I often find myself on roads that aren't marked on the tourism maps. Drives my wife crazy, but she loves me anyway.

Still looking for a good map. We are backroads kind of people. Even gravel at times.

With the range that you have, you won't spend much time in the stations, but there are a selection of fuel suppliers in every town in the area. If I remember right, there is even one vendor inside of Custer SP. but they are bound to be the highest priced fuel around. My fat fingers strike again. My buggy is good for 200 miles ish.

Do tell. How do you like them? I'm looking at them for mine.

Is there any fuel stations along the way? My buggy has a 2300 mile ish range, and my DW HATES roadside hiking.

So after all the reopenings, we are heading out June 11th. Sadly our travel companions had to cancel so it's just us. Does anyone have any decent "scenic drive" maps they could share?. All of the maps we find online are pretty much junk. Our toad is a 69 beach buggy and we are looking forward to the scenery.
