  1. Linda. The DPH is weatherproof, but I did use some plastic shims caulked to the bottom of the DPH to keep it off the bottom of the box. In addition the vent holes are drilled on the sides at the bottom of the box so water runs right out. It's been through a lot of rain here in Florida with no ill affects. It sits about two feet away from the Travl'r. Chuck
  2. I actually put our DPH in a plastic electrical box on the roof and used Dicor caulk to fasten it down. Since the DPH switch generates some heat, I drilled holes in the sides with a hole saw to vent. It has been up for about a year in the hot Florida sun with no issues. Chuck
  3. The insurance company has the "right" to set any requirements it deems necessary to do business and to confirm to any regulatory laws. Your only "rights" are to find a new insurance company if you don't like the way they conduct business. Save your money for a lawyer, they will tell you the same thing. Since you have a lot of "DO NOTS" you might find that difficult. Chuck
  4. “To argue with a person who has renounced the use of reason is like administering medicine to the dead.” —Thomas Paine (1737-1809)
  5. It is a complete "waste of breath" to try and change the minds of anti-maskers. They will mine the internet for troves of information to support their view. After all, if it's on the internet it must be true. They will totally disregard the troves of information by scientist and health care providers that don't support their view. My view in the past has been, fine, let them not wear the masks. They might just eventually get sick and die and we won't have to deal with them. But this pandemic is different than anything we have had to deal with in our lifetime. This time the anti-maskers might infect me and I could wind up in a hospital on a ventilator for weeks. I am in that group that for me, it will probably be a death sentence. When I see someone without a mask, which are most people here in Florida, I run away as quickly as possible. To all you anti-maskers, yes, you have the right to not wear a mask. BUT, and this is a big but. You do not have the right to condemn me or others to death. It is the fear of the anti-maskers that has kept me in my home for 3 months now and not the virus per say. For those of you out there, Please, Please, do as you wish but consider that it might kill me or others. Have you no compassion or sympathy? Have you no shame? Chuck
  6. Sorry Kirk but here in Florida most of the folks shouting the loudest about masks and social distancing being a violation of their Constitutional rights (where is that found) are gray haired old folks. I live in a 55+ community and they have ignored the mask and distancing from the very start. We just stay in our bunker (read home) and simply avoid the shouters and naysayers at all costs. It's getting harder all the time. For those that believe the herd immunity is the answer, I sincerely hope your beliefs don't result in the hospitalization or death of you or a loved one until or IF that ever happens. Chuck
  7. RV_, Explain to me how bragging about and showing pictures of your Tesla and discussing other automobiles has ANYTHING to do with the Starlink topic. Your statement "But please don't violate the rules to claim to be asking for their enforcement" is neither helpful nor factual and does not apply here. If you believe it does, fell free to report my post. But I would like to see this thread get back on topic as I find it very informative. Hope this helps. Chuck
  8. Serious thread hijacking. Seems this thread needs to have the topic changed to Telsa and other vehicle comments and not about Space X. Chuck
  9. And here's an article from PC Magazine on what the FCC thinks... The Federal Communications Commission has "serious doubts" that low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellite providers—including SpaceX—can deliver internet service while keeping latency under 100 milliseconds. In a lengthy report on the Rural Digital Opportunity Fund phase I auction (scheduled for late October), the FCC confirmed that while LEO companies are allowed to apply for rural broadband funding as low-latency providers, they should expect a fight. "Short-form applicants seeking to bid as a low-latency provider using low-Earth orbit satellite networks will face a substantial challenge demonstrating to Commission staff that their networks can deliver real-world performance to consumers below the Commission's 100 ms low-latency threshold," the FCC said. SpaceX has been hogging the headlines lately, over the weekend completing yet another Starlink mission, launching 58 branded satellites into orbit. Elon Musk's rocket firm plans to provide internet service in the northern US and Canada by year's end, with near-global coverage in 2021. The company is confident its satellites' roundtrip latency is up to par for consumers and the Federal Communications Commission. "SpaceX explained that its system easily clears the Commission's 100 ms threshold for low-latency services, even including its 'processing time' during unrealistic worst-case situations," David Goldman, director of satellite policy, wrote in a May 29 letter to the FCC. Still, SpaceX has a lot to prove and little time to do it. While the firm has launched nearly 500 satellites, it isn't yet offering a commercial service. And companies must submit auction applications by July 15—one month from today. "The record demonstrates significant concern regarding applicants that propose to use technologies that have not been widely deployed to offer services at high speeds or low latency, or have not been deployed at all on a commercial basis to retail consumers," the FCC said. "Auction 904 is not the appropriate venue to test unproven technologies using universal service support." SpaceX last year earned regulatory approval to develop a satellite constellation that offers a low-cost, high-performance solution to providing fast internet access. Called Starlink, it will eventually consist of close to 12,000 satellites spread across multiple orbits. Musk recently hinted at a private beta launch this summer, with a public beta by the end of the year, "starting with high altitudes," which, he confirmed, could include the German market.
  10. After you tune in your dish, go into to settings. Open Diagnostics and scroll down to Dish. Click in the Test Installation box in the right hand corner by using select on the remote. Wait for the process to run and you should see all sats with green checkmarks. Chuck
  11. That's really a bit of a stretch. But whatever floats your boat. Chuck
  12. Can you provide the section of the Constitution that deals with State Park restrictions on visitors? I can't seem to find it. Chuck
  13. This article makes very little sense since sometimes he is talking about satellite and sometimes he is talking about DirecTV Now (read the title) which is their streaming service. So I certainly would not make any declarations based on this article. Streaming still only has limited use for those of us that spend a lot of time in places where data access is limited. Cable does not work for those of us that actually travel around the country. Satellite is our best option. We recently switched from DirecTV to Dish because of cost and customer service. Chuck
  14. I stopped "patching" my Windows 7 two years ago becomes every new update broke the computer. I have no plans to ditch my windows 7 until this computer dies. There are plenty of 3rd part options out there to keep your computer safe in the mean time. There are no truly safe computers or connected devices. Once this one dies I will look at all options including linux and yes, even Apple. BTW, I have friends that are still running XP with no issues. Chuck
  15. My Dish account is set up for our S&B but I am able to change locals when on the road with the Hopper 3 in the RV. That's because Dish has us listed as a "snowbird" account and that allows easy change with no issues and the Hopper 3. Chuck
  16. You might be confusing this service. DirecTV Now was not in existence until November 2016. It is a streaming service and not satellite. Chuck
  17. I had this issue also. It was the arm holding the LNB that was the problem. Replaced it and all was well. Chuck
  18. Pardon my stupidity but nowhere do I see an explanation of what BOF means. Chuck
  19. Or you can file a sworn Declaration of Domicile with the clerk of the circuit court. No Florida Drivers licence is needed. You will need to eventually get a DL and tags, but it can be done later. Chuck
  20. Right now we are experiencing long lines at gas stations here in central Florida with 30% of the stations out of gas. In south Florida the stations out of gas have reached 50% and the hurricane isn't near yet. If the tracks shifts a little to the left things will get worse. Chuck
  21. Maybe not "everywhere" but in a lot of places. Nothing drives me crazy more than a group of loud adults sitting around a campfire half the night talking and laughing at the top of their lungs. Dispite the fact that they are sitting 3 feet from each other. we have had them in almost every campground we have been in. And there is never a Ranger, Park Host or owner to be found after the office closes. It doesn't matter whether its a State park, Rv Resort or small locally owned park. We have found them in Florida, New York, Michigan, Montana, Washington, Utah, New Mexico, you name the state. Chuck
  22. I don't but it. We have stayed at RV parks and campgrounds all over the U.S. Most folks we see and meet spend their time either sitting in their campsites drinking and eating, going out to dinner or as others stated, "sitting" in the pool shooting the breeze while having a drink. We see folks a whole lot younger than we are riding from their campsite to the showers in a golf-cart instead of walking and most of them really need to get off their butts and do some exersize , like maybe walking to the restrooms. These are NOT 82 year old people in poor health. They go out to eat every night or just put some red meat on the grill. Lots of beer and liquor, many starting in the morning and going until they pass out at night. Don't get me wrong. I like to occasionally sit around and shoot the breeze while have a beer or a drink. But my camping experiences don't revolve around that. Sure there are some of us that like to hike, bike ride, swim in the pools and find the local activities. But it has been my observation that we are in the minority. Chuck
  23. We carry our TV, Satellite system, stereo and DVD player with us in the RV to give us a variety of entertainment. At night, on rainy days and for other reasons, they all provide us with some form of relaxation and entertainment. During the days we are usually out hiking, biking, kayaking, climbing, swimming or any other outdoor activities we can find. We are pretty active while at home so these are just bonus activities while traveling. But yes, we do feel better while on the road. Whether this translates to better health, only our doctors could tell and they don't travel with us. Chuck
  24. Yes. And the pine cones hitting the roof sound like hand grenades. That is, if you are parked directly under the trees. Chuck
