  1. A quick update on your adopted classemates from 2006... The Polish Prince Paulie and I are settled into Llano Grande RV Resort in Mercedes Tx. Paul's dad is here at John Knox Retirement Village. He will be 94 in March and he seems to be declining more than we had anticipated. We have decided to bite the bullet and purchase a small single wide here at Llano as a homebase. Both of us are having some health issues...a recent test Paul took indicated that now BOTH of us have Crohn's Disease (how is that possible...it's not contageous as far as the doc says ). I have been having back problems and went for an xray and bone density test. I have 5 (can you believe it?) 5 compression fractures in my back and my osteoporosis is getting worse. Crap. The doc wanted to know how I was able to walk, and said most people would be incapacitated with one. I guess both Paulie and I have high pain tolerences. I have also registered for a sculpture class that starts in January and ends in mid May. We hopefully be ready to travel by then. We will be heading to a wedding in Muskegon MI and want to spend several months with family in both MI and IL. Merry Christmas to you all and have a wonderful and safe New Year wherever you park your home on wheels.

  3. Thanks for the links, you lovely Hams. Paul and I are now salivating over Foretravels. They are so well built, even the older ones are beautiful. We will keep our eyes and ears open and maybe someday we'll find the perfect rig. We sure were impressed with yours! Will you guys been venturing down to the valley? We sure did enjoy meeting you both along with all the '06 grads. I'll be following your blog too...I am so lazy, I can't remember when I posted on mine. Gotta get back into the groove. It is very quiet down here. We are one of perhaps 5 rigs in the east section at this park. We have the pool to ourselves and the weather is perfect. Paul's dad is the talk of the valley...he is the "star" of the new tv commercial for John Knox Village in Weslaco. Everywhere we go, folks tell us they saw the old guy dancing on tv. Too Funny. Any Winter Texans arriving can find us at Llano Grande...Gonzales burgers is open for biz, Padre Island is looking great and there is no humidity at the moment. We actually saw an Ontario license plate today! dennise
  4. Arrived in the RGV on Thursday night after a short stay in Livingston. Landed at Llano Grande RV Resort in Mercedes and will be here til Jan 1 when we will head west to Q. Still quite warm here! The park is deserted and we have three swimming pools to ourselves! Paul's dad Gene is at John Knox village and at almost 94 he is amazing. All the ladies fawn all over him. Poor old guy.... Suzanne and Jeff...we went to Nacogdoches and looked at Foretravels. I am in awe. Too bad we don't have $$$!!! Paul and Dennise
  5. OK, I have finally talked Paulie into going to Q this winter. Are there any plans for class get togethers for January? This will be our first trip and we are looking forward to it. We are currently in west Memphis at Tom Sawyer's on the Mississippi enjoying the sunset. Spent over a week in Elkhart after the Escapade getting some work done on the coach. Boy, was it ever hopping around there! We pigged out on prime rib at Dandinos twice and then discovered the Chicken Coop for breakfast. Gotta start walking again, these ol jeans are snugging up a bit! Heading to the RGV to see that 93 year old swinger down in Weslaco. Not sure where to stay this week. Have heard Llano Grande is under water...the golf course is prolly closed this year. Hope there are some folks we can meet up with this fall. hugs dennise
  6. Loved seeing everyone at the Escapade. Our '06 class rocks! We left Goshen and headed down the road to Elkhart to order our new slide toppers. What an expensive way to overcome a really bad design flaw! The complimentary hookups were all taken so we boondocked and on Saturday morning headed to Chicago. Met some old friends and saw the step daughter and family. Had Lou Malnati's pizza which was worth the trip. Just my humble opinion, but we need some new seminars at the Escapade. I think I shall put on my marketing cap and make some suggestions. I guess the big probltem is holding seminars taught by experts. I attended a RV remodel seminar last fall at the Gypsy gathering which was very good and it was put on by two folks who had done some of their own renos. I know if I have deep pockets I can pay someone to do them, but maybe some handy guy could tell us how to change out a sink faucet or replace the plastic sink which I detest in the bathroom. I know this may sound stupid to the handy andy's out there, but we need some advice, lol! Right now we are looking(well, I am looking) to change out the tacky brass handles and hinges on the gazillion cabinets we have and finding some updated lighting fixtures. I have read on countless forms that folks take regular fixtures from like Lowe's and rewired them to 12 volt. How does one do that. I have this post in the general rv section but really haven't gotten any answers on that question yet. Paulie and I are planning to go to Quartzite in January. Looking forward to meeting up with any 06er's there if possible. hugs dennise
  7. Hi everyone, hopes this finds you all well, or on the way back! We are heading out of Springfield, IL to Goshen for the Escapade tomorrow, the 9th. Are there any plans for the class at the Escapade? We are actually class of '06 but '07 "adopted" us 'cause we kept showing up for all the great food events and great times the 07ers have. I've posted on the '06 list but so far not alot of responses just yet... After the rally we are heading back down to the RGV...any suggestions for parks in the area? We are thinking about going back to Llano Grande, but are open to suggestions. Dennise
  8. Paul and I willl be in H2 at the Escapade. Would love to re-aquaint ourselves with our '06 classmates! We have been adopted by the class of '07 'cause we kept crashing all the foodie events they have, . Please let us know what we can bring to the gathering... We are arriving on Friday the 10th. Dennise
  9. Gonzalez' on Thursday...Paul and I would love to meet some of our new to us classmates...we were officially "adopted" by the class of 2007 last fall at the Gypsy Journal Rally in Celina OH. Ron and Linda...when are you arriving in the Valley? We are settin' to leave on Feb 1...going to see my mom in Tampa. The other "cold spot" this winter! dennise
  10. Hi...I have to apologize to Jay and Fay and the others who met at Gonzales Burgers on Thursday. I have been fighting this colitis thing and finally had to be admitted to the hospital on Wednesday. I'm sorry that I didn't put John and Lora's phone number in my cell to call to explan our absence. I just got home today after three horrible days of poking and proding and still have the same problems. Waiting for biopsies to come back early next week. dennise
  11. this link might help...it has a photo of the place.... http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseacti...id/23135532.cfm
  12. Thursday is good for Paul and me also...I am battling a bout of C diff colitis, but I will be there! 11 am is good too...won't have to wait! dennise
  13. Gonzales for burgers and lunch sounds great. I have to confess, Paul and I have YET to get there. I know....I know...we don't do lunch out too often...but this sounds like a perfect time to try them. They are legenday burgers among the Winter Texans. No snowbirds here...Winter Texans, y'all dennise
  14. We are at Rio Valley Estates....! We are on Westlake Drive, and Pike Street....across from the Weslaco HS football stadium....Would love to meet some more of our new classmates!
  15. Greetings to Class of 2007 who "adopted" us while at the Gypsy Rally in Celina, OH. We are back in Texas. Grandpa has agreed with us and is all set t move into a retirement village tomorrow. He will be in the independent living apartments. His "buy in" was very reasonable, and for his monthly fee, he can be sent to assisted living or even the med center at no additional fees, just the same monthly fee. What a relief. We have already sold his mobile home...it was sold before we even put up the sign, which is real load off our backs. Now, for the second time we have to reduce "stuff". We will stay in the Weslaco area, most likely til the end of December...Paul wants to stay thru January. UGH. We have a new puppy named Lucy who is a yorkie poo like Mack. She is 9 weeks old. I guess Paul felt he needed to make Momma happy . Now Mack has someone else to torture rather than that poor old kitty. Lucy gives as good as she gets tho! Anyone coming to the RGV please let us know... Paul and Dee
  16. Finally back on the road after being in the inferno aka the RGV since Hurricane Dolly hit last August. We are tied to the Fedexman's dad since he cannot really function at full throttle anymore. However, he did drive a NASCAR for his 92nd birthday. Jeesh. Trying to figure out what he is gonna do for 93...his bucket list is growning instead of shrinking. We are currently in Sherman Texas at the Lazy L RV park off state route 75...taking those red roads yanno....It is basically a parking lot with hookups. The Fedexman almost grabbed his chest and fell to the floor when the gal at the check in desk said so sweetly, "That will be $51 with your GS discount". I am not kidding. He didn't ask, she didn't tell and he will never do that again! I told him that this was the final straw with Woodalls...the 2009 book indicates something like $26 to $28 for one night. I'd say inflation hit hard in Sherman, TX. Beware...always ASK before you check in. I would have said hmmm... $57 per night? Good Luck with that and got back in the rig heading for the highway! We will try to get to Lebanon MO tomorrow to visit the Aunt and a cousin and then on to St. Louis to see the boy. Graduated in Dec with English degree wanting to teach HS and JR HS English. Has had 2 interviews and has sent out about 150 resumes. I told him not to feel so bad....20 million others are in the same boat. When will it all end? We will be stopping in Springfield, IL to visit Blonde's Mom and her hubby. Then on to Muskegon Michigan Elks campground which is our home lodge. After a month or so we will be making the U around the UP down into WI and back to the Chicago area to visit all the Blond's relatives in the windy city. Hoping to get back to IN and then on to OH for the Gypsy Journal Rally in Celina. Anyne heading to Ohio for the GJ rally? Paul and Dennise
  17. Just touching base ...I finally updated us on the map...we never show up no matter how many times I add us, LOL! . We are workamping in Branson MO at a very quiet place in western Branson called Shenanigans. No ammenites except private bathrooms that compare to one's home ...no pool, so no kids, folks just park and hit the attractions. Paul is bored so he has been hired to work the rides at Celebration City amusement park right behind the campground. He told the gal at the hiring office "workamper" and he got an immediate interview...leaving all the high school kids waiting in his dust....too funny. If anyone is coming in to the area, let us know...we can get tickets in some venues free...but you'd have to have us tag along... I think RV Dreams is having a rally here at ABC campground...looking forward to seeing any of the folks that belong to Dreams also... hugs Dennise and Paul...
  18. Happy Valentines Day Class! This is the first time Paulie and I have been apart in 24 Valentine's days...but we shall make up for it when I get home on Tuesday. I apologize for my rant yesterday, but since my soulmate isn't here to hear me complain, all I can do is let my fingers do the "talking" LOL! hugs Dennise
  19. Sorry guys, haven't posted for a while... I went to Ft Myers Fl to visit with two of my sisters, my mom and her )@(#*(@@ husband. A)#($*(# decided to have a respiratory "emergency" ruining the whole trip. Big fight between baby sister and )#($*#(*$# causing huge tension. Both other sisters left unhappy and broke from having to change plans and flights, etc. What was supposed to be a wonderful reunion for my mom turned into a nightmare with )#(*$(#. He refused to let my mom even buy GROCERIES for us.... I am now preparing to drive them home from Ft. Myers to Springfield IL...Paulie is NOT happy with me, but heck, it's my Mom for heaven's sake. I wouldn't do anything for that sob but would do anything for Mom. Stubborn old sh*t. I will fly outta St. Louis to Harlingen on Tues the 19th. Grrr. Will miss Valentines with my sweetie pie. We will most likely be around the valley til March or so. Still waiting to hear about when we can expect Paul to have the hip replacement surgery. Thinking of taking a break and going to Port Aransas for a month if we get an idea of surgery dates. Ft. Myers Beach is beautiful...I could live here also, but heck, 8 bucks for a regular hamburger and 2 bucks for fries is just too pricy for me! $4 for a draft is just nuts. Hope this finds everyone well. Dennise who is pining for Paulie in Ft Myers Beach....
  20. both Paul and I have had gastric bypass...so we don't absorb fat...lucky us...if we eat too much fatty stuff we do pay the price however, in the bathroom facilities. I won't go there here or folks may get queasey. My father in law who will be 91 March 31 has decided that after seeing the movie The Bucket List, has decided to do a tandem sky diving event for his birthday. He will fly out of Port Isabel and land on a beach on South Padre. I don't have the exact date, but will surely let everyone know when this is to take place. He is really serious and has already set aside the $200 cost. I was thinking of having a beach party for the event. We can all sit in our beach chairs and watch my crazy FIL jump out of an airplane. Hugs Dennise
  21. Well, if the weather would cooperate soon, we could do our beach outing on SPI. I had really looked forward to having a burger and a bear while sitting in a comfy chair on the beach. I am leaving to visit my mother in Ft Myers on Feb 5th and won't return until the 13th. We have guests arriving from IL on the 15th for a long weekend. Anytime after that is good for us. I am hoping to get to the island this weekend to see the kites too. I hear the fried shrimp at Dirty Al's calling me again. hugs dennise
  22. Hey guys, I have heard of a new honky tonk type place in Weslaco called the Horseman...I will found out more and see when the entertainment is...I think they have it in the early afternoon. That might be a way to ease the pain of not having good weather for the birding tour? Dennise
  23. Thanks Sue...got the info... Great get-together yesterday BTW...Long Cattle place was very good, just added to our return again list! We went to Mcallen for the Welcome Winter Texan event...waste of time unless you wanted to stand in line for an orance and get your blood sugar checked, heck I do that meself. Steve...did you get to the Arizona? What did you think of Progresso? Did you find the $3 bottles of tequila? Paul and Dennise
  24. I was looking forward to sitting on the beach...oh well...the Longhorn sounds great. Paul and I will be there...we may even wear our t-shirts! hugs Dennise
