  1. So True!!!! I am going to guess not many respond to this thread.
  2. Howdy all and Happy Monday, I have noticed something on the forum over the years I have been on it and maybe it is due to the off-shoots of this on Facebook......... It seems like 4 or 5 years ago when somebody put in a new topic you would see 200 people read the topic and there were 100 responses. Now looking at new posts and seeing the ratio of # of people that read the post vs. the # that responded it is a lot smaller. Maybe I am crazy, and I probably am, there just seems to be less response. Maybe I am just getting older too. Later, Cory O - Vegas Teacher
  3. I have so much faith in Jack and his work. In Vegas we do not get a lot of good service or honest people. Yesterday my wife took out Subaru Outback in to get the free oil change. When she was called to the service counter they told her we needed new tires. Discount Tire just put brand new tires on in December, I am just tired of that level of incompetence I am seeing out here in several parts of our town. Casino's used to be the best place to go for customer service here, now the service at the casino is terrible too. Later, Cory O
  4. Hello All!!!!! As I type this I am extremely excited! I just spoke with Jack Mayer and he is about to start work on my truck. I am getting it singled, wired, ET hitch and Sport Utility bed put on. This is phase 1. I will have him do more down the line but this is where I am now. I have to give Jack all the credit in the world. I started working with him in the summer of 2020. I flew back home. The town where I grew up is Pittsburg Kansas, it is 45 miles east of Dennis Kansas, so having Jack do the truck at RVH Lifestyles is great. I go home to see the truck and then spend a week with my parents. Anyway Jack visited with me for over an hour the first time we met. The following summer 2021 I took my mom and dad to meet him and see his facility. Once again Jack gave us a tour answered countless questions and was great at customer service. I then drove the semi from Vegas to Dennis Kansas last summer. Jack gave us all a tour around the facility and showed us his paint room. Each time we went to see Jack we were there for more than an hour walking looking and touring. As work progresses and Jack sends me pictures I will post the progress of my truck. Singling the back end starts next week. I forgot to ask if it was being singled short or long. I am probably going to start asking lots of questions about smart cars now. Please forgive me if the questions are stupid. I know nothing about them. Later, Cory Ossana - Vegas Teacher.

    Rough Road

I agree I drove that road when I picked up the semi, many moons ago with Vegas Flyer, it is bumpy and miserable, especially bobtail. The only piece of road worse is I 40 in Arizona, eastbound into Flagstaff. Later, Vegas Teacher - Cory Ossana
  6. You are correct! I am so excited to be at a school like this. I know we are starting something incredible! I think the best thing about it is, I might get to go down and play with all of the toys. I love carpentry, I want to learn a lot more about auto / diesel mechanics and if they have an old fashion drafting machine / arm just for fun, it would be out of this world. Cory O
  7. I know some of you probably thought I was writing to ask about a good mechanic or getting a Commercial CDL again, but no, I crack myself up LOL!!!!!! Anyway I thought I would tell you about a new school I was offered a biology position here in Vegas. We are going to open a brand new high school year that is a technical trade high school and it offers all the classes of a high school along with the kids majoring in a technical program like diesel mechanics, construction, landscaping, sports medicine and drafting to mention a few. At the interview I was asked if there was anything I could bring to the table that was unique about me that would relate to the kids and their career choices. So I said absolutely, I pulled out my phone and showed them the picture of my big orange Volvo 780, then showed them pictures of Jack Mayer's RVH life styles site and they loved it. I think I might just be the only teacher in the district to own a Volvo semi. I also told them I interned / shadowed diesel mechanics last summer and they loved it. We talked for a while about the semi then moved on to my idea for dog training clubs and grilling clubs. Anyway we never know how what we do in life might effect us down the road. Buying the Volvo has been a lot of ups and downs, mostly the up side. I only had downs when it was the big ticket items or the air line that blew out and left me on the side of the road, waiting to be towed. I will get to talk to my kids about so many really interesting and relevant things they will deal with and relate to them on what they are learning. Later, Cory O
  8. You are 100% correct, at the point when we were doing shocks and money kept going into the semi she was a little bit nervous. Finally all of the repairs are pretty much done. Last summer we drove the semi from Vegas to Pittsburg Kansas. We stayed at Flying J's / Pilot truck stops and she loved it!!! All is good. We dropped the semi off with Jack Mayer to do his magic and flew back to Vegas. I loved driving the truck down I - 40. We have driven I 40 twice a year for the last 22 years, and from the elevated view I saw new things for the first time. I took all of my relatives, back home for a ride, and it was a hit. Everybody wanted to see it, hear it and ride in it. I gave them a tour of the outside, the engine and when the ride started I had Convoy on the radio. Happy Holidays, Cory O
  9. I can't wait for retirement myself. My wife, Pam, retired from teaching this year. I have 5 more years before I can retire. About that time I should have my truck and have bought my trailer. We put all of my wife's pension checks into savings for our new trailer. We should be ready to buy in 3 years. Looking at the 40 - 45 foot front living, middle kitchen and master suit in back. I am not very tall, 5'7" is all and the front living are our favorite models so far. We have a place in Vegas called Blue Dog RV and have liked them the most. Happy Holidays! Later, Cory O
  10. Go to your nearest TEC Volvo Dealership they will be able to help you.
  11. Have you tried calling Best Buy and having Geek Squad come out? I used them on several occasions for things like this. I think it is 100.00 for them to come out, but once they come out you can get them to fix several things. Plus they know how to fix all issues. Later, Cory O

    Newbie

    Welcome to the forum!
  13. Sorry to hear that about your father. I think I will put up a picture at the end of the week and then one at the end of the month before I shave it off.
  14. I had my sleeper window go out and my lower window go out too. It cost me about 200.00 for my mechanic to fix them. I was a little be nervous to try to take it apart and put it back together. Later, Cory O
  15. Have you ever thought about getting an HDT? Go over to the HDT part of this and look at us on the class 7/8 part of the escapes site, you might be surprised.
  16. Do know how many of you know about no Shave November, but it is in support of men who have had, recovered from or died from Prostate Cancer. In my family my great grandfather died from it and my dad had it, had his prostate removed. Cancer then came back in the same area two years later, but he underwent Chemo & Radiation, then he had a brain tumor and it was removed and he has been cancer and tumor free for about 4 years. Anyway No Shave November is in support of men who had prostate cancer. Since my family has had quite a bout of it, I have been letting my beard grow since the end of September. Any who would like to join me in this are welcome. I figure we can post pictures of our beards on this link at the end of November we could also do before and after shots of our faces now, like I said mine has been growing since the end of September. I should have probably posted earlier but, well I messed up. Later, Cory Ossana
  17. Thanks Kevin, aticles like that are some of the best sources of information!!!!! Are you still on your trip or have you made it back home yet? Hope it was all good!!! Later, Cory O
  18. Yep that is true, Pam and I love to research (both of us have Masters Degrees, just part of that) and love to shop. Took us 2 years to buy the Subaru outback we bought in 2014 and still have it, and 3 years to buy our 2008 Tundra. The Semi was 4 years almost. So a trailer of over 85,000.00 it is going to take a while. Now we are shopping for our state to retire in, when I retire in 5 years......... Later, Cory O
  19. Thanks! I am not opposed to buying used! My first trailer was a 2003 Fleetwood, Pioneer 23.5 feet bumper pull. I was the 3rd owner on it and man did I learn a lot about stuff, from pumps to electrical. I hope if I find something used it is in better shape than that one. However I did pull it from Vegas to Michigan, looped back through Kansas and back 5 times and did a loop from Vegas to Vancouver Washington and back, plus a lot of little side trips up to St. George / Zion Utah / Bryce Canyon Utah etc. It was pretty old and pretty beat up. I learned a lot about backing and communication skills with my wife when setting up too. It was the Vancouver trip that started the talk about a bigger trailer and Vegas Flyer, telling me to look at Volvo Semi's, to which I told him he was crazy, LOL! Later, Cory O
  20. O.K. Just so people did not think I was asking about a CDL again LOL!!!!! So Pam and I are looking for the perfect 5th wheel set up now. We love to shop and are not in any hurry at all to spend any money. Pam is not fully retired, I am 5 years behind her. For those of you who are wondering Pam had been teaching in Vegas before I got to Vegas and I met her out here. I had been teaching, in the little town of Stockton Missouri, for a couple of years before that. Instead of teaching right after college, I went back and got a M.S. in Molecular Biology. So now that that is out of the way I can explain or ask my question. We have been shopping, don't plan to buy for two more years at least but starting the shopping and saving. I don't do loans on anything but a house. We are really liking Grand design and the Blue Dog RV company. We really love the front living, center kitchen and rear bedroom. What the the opinions on Grand Design and Blue Dog RV? Thanks, Cory O P.S. not a CDL Question.
  21. Congratulations! I remember my search and going to get it! It is a great feeling. I am still getting mine fixed up and doing all kinds of improvements on it. Many on the website have given me good advice, one parcel of which was remember it is a marathon not a race. Later, Cory O
