  1. just asking.

no threat to me or mine.

i see videos and read about "better" door locks.  but do not see much of anything that looks "better".

in reality insurance wise. it would be great if someone did take my rv and it was not found. but not sure if i would want the problems that would bring me.

knowing how rv doors are made. i do not see much of any way to make a "stronger" lock for them. and knowing how easy it is to pick any key lock. i am no good at combo locks. and i do not even qualify as a rank amateur lock pick. it is just a part time hobby thing to me. the master lock line, i find easy to pick.

as for my s&b home. that is different.  meth heads, gangs, punk kids out for a laugh, etc. best to make it hard for them to get in from the get go, as i can be away for days at a time. (mail is supposed to go to a po box anyhow). no news papers . heck do they even print them any longer?

but breaking in other than a door is why i say build as per how a onion is.   "layers".

most crooks are just lazy, any problems, they move on to easier. noting at my place screams money.

pu is 4 years old, last one the motor went out. my rv is pushing 24 years old. heck if they want the flat screen tv, just say the word and i will hand it to them. as i have not even plugged it in a good 3-4 years. the "stereo" is....  O i bought it before i could even drive (now 63) from montgromery ward parking lot sale. and it is rarely turned on. (has a problem with the volume pot).

anything of value has a ser number and/or a marked number etched into it.

  2. yes check the two (on some only one) wire, but if you can check the thermal limiter. and if the sail switch is moving. the thermal limiter does go out. not so much on the sail.

if you sit outside with the cover off. have someone turn it on.

then keep your ears ready. you want to here sounds. (yes the blower is very noisy). you want to hear "clicking" sounds. the pizo thingy trying to light the gas.

no clicking.  pull out the burner area and check it for a broken screen, or the pizo grounding out, should be 1/8 in away from the screen.

dumb question? got gas? what color is the flame on the stove? should be blue. if other could have air (other) in the system.

find the wires to the thermal unit, check for continuity. if none... replace it as it is dead.

do you smell gas if the blower works but no heat? check for bugs, dirt, other stuff.  while the burner unit is out.

pending your heater might have to pull it out to check/change the (varied mounting locations) thermal unit. it is easier than it sounds.

these heater units are simple things. and contained in a box.

  3. yes that is true.

buy why make it easier for them.

should see how my stick-n-brick hose doors are braced for "that" kick. as this house did have them kicked in before i bought it. i want to buy a couple steel doors with steel door frames. but the co$t. most of the windows are about top of your head high to the bottom of the glass. so not a easy entry.

yes my home does have security cams. this area is "safe" just a dumping ground for the gang bangers getting out of ca prisons. then the meth heads.

i believe security should be in layers. like a onion.

  4.  Does any corp out there make a truly secure door lock?

most i have seen are just a very cheap 4 pin lock. that are very easy to pick or just force open with a small crowbar.

entry in seconds, maybe even faster than using a key.

any lock that has nothing on the outside of the door to be picked. or even to let the crook know what he needs to do to open the door?

as a key fob does not need to work on anything outside of the door. just work something inside the door. that runs off the house battery. so never "locked" out due to a dead battery.

everything i can find online has just the same locking workings as the cheep factory units. stupid easy to pick. or bar it open.

not had a problem, in over 20 years. but things are getting worse. creeps will break in and just damage things, if you have no cold beer.

  5. normal stinky slinky hose dumping is the best way. a macerator is best if you need to go up hill, or a good 50+ feet away.

the wash of a larger dia tubing tends to bring everything out at once. trying to pump through a pump just slows down the volume and things might not make it out in time.

i have one, only use it at home,(sticknbrick).  never found a use for it otherwise.

  6. yes i say price, as i would love to buy a new rv. but noway can i afford $80K USD. some shops not even close to me (aka: more than one state away, i live in cal). even they can not offer a price i can afford. unless i sell my house.

i can not move, or go full time, as i must stay here for my mom. sad it also means i must pay tribute to those under the dome in sacramento. ss and a pension should be tax free.

i am retired now, and having trouble making it to the next check.

  7. plan your weight right. as you only have 1000 pounds MAX to play with on that front axle. dot max weight is 12,500 pounds. and 500 pounds are a "given" extra as long as the rear is not up to it's max weight. not sure what the max weight is for that class, check first then build up.

  8. buy a honda eu unit as they are the quietest (is that even a word?) on the market. $ad al$o the mo$t CO$TLY.

and if you ever need service, there are places to take it and parts are available.

but as to the ac units install a "soft start" on both of them. will help on the start up needs.

i had a tree fall on my eu3000, only broke a small bit of plastic, and it started with just a very easy tug on the pull cord, was not trying to start it just turning the motor to get oil on things. it had sat for many months.

but a eu3000, and a good sized battery bank just might do the trick. and yes I understand the bad back deal.

Assuming you're making a statement about man-caused climate change, it's difficult to ignore with years of stifling drought followed by torrential rains exacerbated by warming oceans and atmosphere.  I certainly don't dismiss it.

We believe in, and rely on science for so many things, but for some reason climate science is some sort of hoax. I don't understand that.

look at the historical data of rains and dry spells in ca. the "droughts", are for the most part are a normal thing for the state, ca is a desert after all. and every X number of years we get flooded by a number of very wet storms.

the "new" part of elk grove at hwy 5 was under water just 20 years back, even hwy 80 had two feet of water over the rd way. at the budwiser plant. we are ether very wet, or very dry.

The flooding south of Sacramento is coming from the Consumnes River.  It's a designate "Wild and Free" river without any dams along it's length.  There have been several proposed over the years but they have been shouted down.  I guess we're seeing just how wild it can be.

the problem here is not do to no dams, but housing projects are built in the flood areas. this "land" is meant to catch the flood waters, and hold it so as to be adsorbed into the underground lakes.  but with city's expanding into such areas it can only flow out to the pacific. now as to the snow pack, there is the drinking and farming water supply. but the pumps taking northern ca water and sending it south to la, need to de dismantled. ca has and will always be in a pickle for water.

and as to building more lakes. not always possible, the ground is not always able to keep the water in a lake, some areas the broken ground (rock) will just allow the water to flow under, around the dam. look at the devastation behind the hugh dam in communist china. sure it makes lots of power, heck it even stopped all the garbage from being washed out of there water ways each year. so some good there.

more water. heck i have not watered my yard in a good four years.

  11. in some ways i wish cal would do safety inspections again. as there are lots of "junker" cars out there that are not safe. or are just not working right..aka lights. parts hanging off, etc.

but they were removed as it impacted the "poor".... people that could not afford owning a car. but had one or two broken down. and sorta putting around on the streets.

but yes can be a head ache or a big problem.

How many police academy high speed driving courses have you attended?

    none.

but i used to have a race car license,  a license to teach people to drive cars, and another one for teaching how to drive a big rig. never for motorcycles. and over the decads of my life i have kept up with reacuring training.

and back when it was legal the "slick track" (used oil back then) was a blast. hit that at speed or slow turn hard and try to not wipe out too much.

some of what i have done excides some of the training some leos might have gotten, as not all leos get such training.

I drove school bus for Mission, TX the last 3 winters, in that job I learned to tune out the chatter and just drive. One time a fight broke out on the bus, so I hit the brakes (lucky for me no one got hurt). Sometimes you do what you have to do!

My pet peeve is when I see cops driving while they are talking on their cell phone and they have their lap top in full open position.

cops are above the laws they are trying to enforce.  a leo is no better a driver than the avg driver out there, they are subject to all the same problems we are, and all the same distractions. just they are exempt.

Even though I am past my peak RVing years, I have been fascinated following the improvement in both solar and batteries in recent years as well as the availability of both. The whole thing makes me with that I could do some of the back country RVing that we did back in the 70's & 80's but now with the latest thing off grid equipment.

What I have wondered is just how accurate what I read about the lifespan of the new batteries is? Has anyone here yet had one fail due to age/use? With solar expected to last for 25 to 30 years that doesn't seem to be an issue but durability could be. Has anyone experienced a major hail storm with solar panels? None of the RV forums that I follow have had much about either type of failure, which makes me think that such must be pretty rare.

battle born. have the longest warranty on the market, ten years. but they have not even been around that long.

there are "better" batteries lower cost --good quality units---. only with 7 or so years warranty and no i am not talking about all the cheap trash units. there only warranty is, they cashed your check before they shipped to you.

but say you have a good 600-800- watts of juice storage. you will need at least 1800 worth of solar on your roof and a good gen to keep them topped off. pending the batteries you buy, it will only need the space of about 4 or 6 led acid units. but half the weight, double the watts usage.

and tipple the money to start with, just for the batteries.

  15. i must disagree as there is a real usage for "pot". and the pill form it does not get one high, would have helped my dad while he was alive. illegal in the USA. still is. and no my dad could not drive a car by that time, and was trapped in a wheelchair.  he suffered from MS. died from   pneumonia compilations.

a number of "drugs" legal or not. do have a useful reason. but must be controlled, regulated. not out right banned. as i said before a lady i know uses the stuff. (pot) to help with a chronic pain. and it is much safer then some of the pills from the real Dr's pad.

but as long as it is a fed crime. it should be a jail time. just like being drunk in public. and many people like me with lung problems, all smoking makes me sick and cuts my breathing down to a point it hurts. sometimes just the junk in the air cause's me troubles.

most otc do not effect people so bad it cuts there ability's to do "normal" things. most controlled drugs can. and all will easily when abused.

and who here wants to get cut open in a hospital setting with out a knock out drug? with out testing the effects of things like heron we would still be held down and biting on a leather strip.

i say this not as a pro drug person. as i believe "druggies" should go to jail. just some drugs have a legal usage at times.

heck who wants moss on a open wound? i do not know the exact stuff. but it does help in healing.

so do not let me be your Dr.

  16. why is everybody getting all this rain. we here in northern ca need it desperately. as water will be rationed again this year.

some towns and city's ran out of water in past years. aka: nothing in the underground aquifers. only southern ca gets all the water they want.... till the lakes up here run dry.

a number of the big water corps. are going to use tax moneys to suck water from the Mississippi river and pump it into the Colorado river. so soon 10 years or so), parts of the south mid west will have water problems
