  1. Al, I don't know what gauge wire they use but I have read that the factory wire is not heavy enough, as there is significant voltage drop at the headlights. You would think that Volvo would use the proper gauge wire but I guess cost overrides sound engineering and manufacturing decisions in too many cases.?! David Dixon would probably have the answer as to what gauge wire would be best for the headlight circuitry. Charlie On edit, I'm pretty sure that David is the one who said the factory headlight wire gauge is undersized.
  2. Glenn, I got lucky and was refered to an aircraft painter who sanded, primed and painted my hood in my back yard. $500.00 labor and approximately @200.00 in materials. Unfortunately my guy moved away. Several years ago I was quoted 5k for a complete paint job....I'm sure it would be higher now. My hood is not perfect but it suits me just fine and it was convienent and affordable. My guy was planning on doing some painting on my camper, too, but he had a really goog job offer out of state , darn it . Charlie
  3. Carl, my hood clearcoat was flaking badly. I had the hood repainted with basecoat/clear last year. Charlie
  4. With 30 amp service in you RV, I would recommend putting in a dedicated 15 amp recepticle for your heater. I have 50 amp service on mine and still use a dedicated 15 amp heater service to prevent breaker tripping due to intermittent high loads...hair dryer, microwave, etc. The dedicated service is plugged into the parks 15 amp outlet and has a 15 amp male input mounted through the camper wall and connected to a duplex recepticle near the 15 amp input. You can mount a circuit breaker/fuse in the circuit if you plan on using the parks 50 amp service adapted to 15 amps. This setup has worked well for me and for several others who have used it. 5. I prefer the over the wheel straps with the rubber tread blocks as opposed to the basket straps. Just my personal preference. Have fun with your new Smart. Charlie

    Shiny

Sunglasses....where are my sunglasses. That is some shiny aluminum. This guy really knows how to make them look good. Charlie
  7. Congrats, Send us lots of pictures......some words will be ok as long as they aren't real big words. I will look forward to following your progress. Charlie
  8. Congratulations on your new truck and the successful trip. You can find mufflers for about 60 bucks.....the clamps cost more than the mufflers.
  9. Pat, if, indeed, it is the ECM output being bad, I'm sure you could engineer a work-around circuit using a thermostat to signal the solenoid when the fan should turn off and on. 3500 bucks is a chunk of change , to me, anyway. How about using a Davies Craig Digital Thermatic Fan Controller ? Looking forward to seeing you at the ECR. Charlie
  10. I am also with State Farm on my 2006 Volvo 780 tandem axle MH in SC. They insure 2 houses, our fifth wheel and Volvo, a pickup, 2 cars and a million dollar umbrella. Charlie
  11. Congrats ! Persistence and determination can pay off in the long run. Hope you will be at the ECR next year so that I can drool on your "MOTORHOME". Be safe. Charlie
  12. We are in La Vita, Colorado for a few days after a week in Colorado springs. Circle The Wagons campground is a delightful 40 space privately owned campground with some of the most beautiful scenery around. Heading to Dodge City, Kansas next.....might dig up some history on some of my cattle rustlin', stage robbin' relatives ?? Be safe. Charlie
  13. I believe I have one of your Volvo's brothers. Just got my ex-US Express 06 780 D12 ultrashift 3.42 rear. Just realizing how little I know about HDT. Hope I don't spin out on the learning curve.
