    a super single is considered the same as a pair of tires....think about the surface area in contact with the road. You can not put four super singles on one axle. I thought that would be common sense. Since the original statement was "I am seriously debating pulling the inside duals off and running singles on the back" we weren't talking about super singles anyway.

    I know the odds of being cited are less than slim but in some states (Texas for one) if there is a position for a tire it must have one there. It is illegal to turn a dually into a single.

  3. Do an internet search for the Texas Registration Manual, the Texas Title Manual and also the Texas Occupations Code, section 2301 and look at the definition of Motor Home. 

    The Registration Manual and the Title manual tell you what the DMV wants to register it, and how/what they will do. Section 2301 tells you what "it" must contain to be a MH.

    Would you please clarify what you mean by "class A permit"? There is no "permit" required in Texas to operate an RV. Just go get your Class A drivers license. Take all the classes you want, as others have said training is good. But unless the school requires you to get something else, just go straight to the DL.

    Thanks for the link, that looks like a real good idea as the car sits on the deck of the truck for months without being started or used.  You say you just leave it plugged in all the time, without some sort of monitor isn't there a chance of over charging the battery?

    100% correct, sir. Phil is right.

     And I've never had an issue with overcharge. The car (as we know) has a parasitic drain anyway and with the controller built onto the panel I never even gave it a thought. I added the cigarette lighter plug because the factory plug is wired to the key and shuts off. Adding a new plug straight to the battery makes the panel easy to connect and disconnect without having to dig under the floor mat to attach clips

    since I have a company truck, I rarely drive my smart. I got tired of jump starting and ruining batteries.
    I hardwired a cigarette lighter plug straight to the battery and bought a small solar charger that I throw between the windshield and the sun screen. It just back-feeds through the cigarette lighter plug. I leave it on all the time the car is parked, even on the trucks deck.

  7. I would recommend mounting it inside a compartment. My original was mounted outside, between the frame rails and covered. I filled it with water. There are several here who saw it. The LED's had rusted off and were floating in the water but the damn thing still worked. The designer/creator was there when we found it and gave me a new one, I think it was just because I qualified as the most screwed up one he had ever seen. 

  8. Cory, get that inspection plate OFF your truck. The idea is to get as far away from everything "commercial" that you can. 
    I'm with Dave, do not go into a scale house. Half the times you have a civilian inspectors (budget cuts) doing the inspection and a single trooper who issues citations for them all. I would rather talk to a real trooper on the roadside than a civilian inspector any day. And I always agree on that "Not for Hire" and "Private RV" signage. There is nothing that says you can't use a "Private RV" commercially, so what have you accomplished? People think it keeps the cops from stopping them....like a sign saying "No dope in this van" woulda helped Cheech and Chong. Have you ever seen an F-350 or F-450, pulling a DRV or Hew Horizon with "not for hire" or "Private RV" on the side?? 

    Several people here say they have an "inspection" done every year. Your wife can do an inspection. All an "inspection" does is tell you something is broken. I "inspected" trucks for years. I am not a mechanic and couldn't even begin to fix half the stuff that fails "inspection". I take my truck to MY TRUSTED MECHANIC year. Change the oil, grease it, check my brake linings and adjustment and give it a thorough total system check. I don't want it "inspected". I pay $7.50 at the local gas station to get the "inspection" done so I can renew my registration.

    I would be surprised that anyone authorized t o enforce the FedRegs would be unaware. The normal street cop cant enforce those regs anyway. You are more likely to need a copy of your state laws stating that you are not required to have a CDL. The average cop can enforce state laws regarding your drivers license and he is less likely to be schooled in what YOUR state requires if you are out of your home state.

  10. Any heavy duty wrecker is capable of towing our rigs and trailer. Commercial tractor trailer combos weigh much more than we do. I have used Coachnet twice with no issues. Tell them what your "truck" and trailer weigh and tell then you need a heavy duty wrecker. When all else fails, call the wrecker yourself and let them negoiate with Coachnet.

  11. I can only speak for the state I worked in for 34years.. Texas. The others, well that would be a long long internet search. And something that I bet 98% of average street cops wouldn't even know about. Your traffic or commercial enforcement officers probably would, so the odds are definitely in your favor to not get caught.

    But you can bet that I'm not the only cop (now retired) in Texas that knows.
