  3. We are also domiciled in FL with FL DL, etc. I had to do this through a dealer in CO. I called the tax collector in Sumter County who explained everything to the dealer and they handled it. If you call them a real person will answer the phone and walk you through it. In our case, the dealer filled out the paperwork when we bought the car in CO. We sent a check to FL for the applicable taxes and they sent the plates to the dealer via USPS.
  4. SINCE POSTING THIS 2/23 MY OPINION HAS CHANGED. OUR HITCH HAD A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE RIGHT BEFORE WE DEPARTED AN OVERNIGHT STOP. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS HITCH TO ANYONE. I WOULD ALSO RECOMMEND THAT IF YOU ARE CURRENTLY USING THIS HITCH TO GET IT REPLACED. WE WERE VERY FORTUNATE THAT PEOPLE DIDN'T DIE. IF THIS HAD FAILED 15 MINUTES LATER IT WOULD HAVE BEEN HORRIBLE. WE WENT BACK TO A TRAILERSAVER. WAITING FOR DELIVERY AS WE SPEAK. We currently have a CR 245 and are very happy with it. We had a TrailerSaver on our last truck and we were very happy with that as well. The main reason we went with CR was the lack of air bags, compressor, etc. It was just one less thing to worry about. If I had to choose one over the other I would pick the TrailerSaver but as you say, "You have a chance to upgrade", it sounds like it's not an either or proposition.
  5. We have always had FL Blue Select since ACA started and we have never had a problem. We are domiciled in Bushnell but we have never seen doctors there. The main reason we chose the Select Plan was to have access to a nationwide network while we're traveling around the country. In FL we see docs in Tampa, Gainesville and near the Villages. We have never run into a situation where we couldn't see the doc we wanted. They've always been in network. The select plan has worked out well and has been tested when some bones have needed setting far from FL.
  6. We have found that doctors in FL are already used to a transient population given all of the people from the northeast who have been spending "the season" in FL for decades. We have never had a problem with doctors writing prescriptions for the entire year with a follow up yearly. They write a 90 day scrip with 3 refills. Rinse and repeat. This has worked for my wife who only has one prescription and for me with many. My wife has very few health issues and I have more than a couple of specialists that I see. We return to FL once a year to make the rounds and see all of our doctors. We are both pre-medicare (soon to change) and use an ACA FL Blue Select plan. As our health needs change so will the time that we spend in state and we may change some things as we approach 65 but for now it works for us. We've been domiciled in FL and fulltime for well over 5 years.
  7. I would assume that the proof would be your vaccine card. That seems to be the only way to prove it. Someone had even suggested that it could be a picture of your vaccine card that would be on your phone. Again, I'm just trying to verify the rumor. Let's just say that the opinion around the fire was disbelief and dismay.
  8. Is it true that proof of vaccine is now required to attend Escapees sponsored events? This was going around the campfire last night and needed to verify. Does this include clubhouse events as well (social hours, card games, etc, dominoes, etc)? Asking for a friend. : )
  9. There used to be but it's been over a year since we used it. Some of the older sites in the trees had services that weren't operable so they use them for storage. Can't beat the price, $1 a day. We stored our rig there for 3 weeks while traveling overseas but this over a year ago. Give them a call to find out as I seem to remember hearing that they were working on improving those sites and may be renting them out. I'd be curious to hear what you find out.
  10. Kirk, I appreciate you sharing the information that is on FB.
  11. Please keep these folks in your prayers. They're going to need a great deal of help to recover from this. I didn't see any other posts about this so I thought I would share. https://www.ksat.com/news/local/2021/04/30/heavy-rainfall-high-winds-and-large-hail-devastate-hondo-mobile-home-community/
  12. I just happened to clean my pretty dirty truck today with Wax Wash All. I've been using it for about 6 months. Does a great job. When I do the truck I take it to a self wash and give it a good spray down and then come back and complete the job. Looks great. Took a little over an hour to complete.
  13. This is a gray area in some states ....in MD a loaded magazine is considered a loaded firearm even separated from the actual body of the firearm. During transport in that state magazines and ammunition must be in separate containers separated by at least a zipper (think padded gun storage bag). I would think that some of the other restrictive states may have similar regs.
  14. Just verified looking at the pictures on the NH site. The sticker for tire pressures in the cabinet is dated 9/2008. This sticker from 2008 has the same serial number that is on the trailer weight sticker below it. This is a 12 year old unit. The sticker even indicates that this was made prior to their move to Lacy Dr. Picture
  15. My post is only to point out that the unit may have actually been built 3 or 4 years earlier than how they have advertised and registered the unit. Trust me, there are a few of these units out there. I have looked at the ad and I have my suspicions. Windows are a prime example. In 2011 NH used flush mount windows. This unit has the old style windows. The window frames are also white. This WAS an unpainted unit that was painted after the fact. If I was looking at this unit I would want to know when it actually rolled off the line. It's still a well made unit but could be had for much less with a little homework. I would also look at the side lamination if it has sat this long. I'm speaking from a place of experience and trying to share my limited knowledge
  16. You may want to check on when this 2011 unit was actually built. This MAY and I say may be a unit that was actually built in 2008 or 2009. Have them send the serial number or coach number (they number all of their units). Also, have them them send pictures of the build dates of the appliances; refer, microwave, tv, etc..... I know it sounds crazy but you may want to at least check this out.
  17. Does anyone here have experience with delivering an RV from one point in the US to another. We have a dear friend and fellow Escapee who finds himself in a position where he needs immediate medical attention and it would be best for him to fly to where he needs to be to begin treatment and have the RV follow behind. It's for this reason that we have SkyMed but these folks do not so looking at other options to assist them. Any direct experience with transport companies is greatly appreciated.
  18. Towboater, We have a friend who HAD Escapees Roadside and he managed to get his tow vehicle stuck and it wasn't attached to the RV. They received the same song and dance about not having any record of their other vehicles. After many many phone calls they were told by a supervisor that the truck was covered for a 100' tow if stuck. They didn't have to pay anything for it. They continued to have issues after that though and ended up going with FMCA.
  19. We have some friends who had repeated issues with this very same problem. They were always told that only the fifth wheel is covered. Eventually they had it resolved every time but it just got to be a pain. They switched back to another carrier after having to plead their case every single time they called for assistance.
  20. You can buy them from The Water Filter Store, an Escapees commercial member. Here is a LINK to their website. If you are an Amazon Prime member you can buy the same product, also shipped from The Water Filter Store, with free 2 day shipping. We have one and it has worked well for us. I'm pretty sure we bought it at Escapade 2018.
  21. We have an inflatable tandem kayak by Advanced Elements. It's a really nice trackable kayak with rigid sides once inflated. They also have single paddler kayaks as well. They store really nicely in the belly of our 5er. http://www.advancedelements.com
  22. So after 10 years of planning and preparing we are finally getting to serious countdown time. My wife and I attended a "Life On Wheels" weekend at the Harrisburg (now Hershey) RV show in 2002. We were in our Coleman pop-up pulled by our minivan. Having always been travelers we knew that this was the life for us and the planning began to be on the road as soon as we were able. We've sold the house and the short term lease runs out on our apartment on Jan 30. Most of the "stuff" has been sifted through and the 5th wheel is being moved on January 1 so that we can begin the month long process of prepping her for departure. February 1st is our day to leave, weather permitting. We'll be heading to FL to take care of our domicile issues as well as seeing friends and family. From there.......Oh the places we'll go!!
