  1. What about people with Travel'rs? Will the firmware allow it to ignore 129?
  2. I have had nothing but bad luck with Lincare. They don't return phone calls and can't handle exceptions. They don't give out individual phone numbers so every phone call is with a different rep and is dependent on the quality of notes from the previous call. Before I retired, I lived in the Dallas area and my sleep doc went through Monitor Medical. I never had a problem. When I retired, the sleep doc connected me with an outfit out of Nashville. Once I got passed initial growing pains, I had no problems with them. Then, they got bought out by Lincare, with all the deficiencies I had before. I called Monitor Medical, since I had good luck with them. I got a new machine from them. My current sleep doc in Arizona has no problem working with them. In most locations, they can send me my supplies directly. Some locations they can't. When that happens, I have them sent to Livingston and have them forwarded to me. One time they sent them to Livingston instead of my location in Massachusetts. They corrected it by sending me a duplicate order to Mass. I have been dealing with the same rep for years and we do everything via email, including shipping addresses. If things get complicated, I call her extension directly and she almost always answers right away.
  3. We belong to Alliant Credit Union. In addition to knowing about full-timers (10 years), we had no trouble getting a loan for a new motor home with better rates than anywhere else. We have even changed states and gotten new titles each time. They are great to work with.
  4. I don't know what 'scam' you're referring to. Due to the increased maximums to qualify this year, received considerable savings due to the ACA subsidy.
  5. My child bride is not old enough for Medicare (that changes in November this year). When we retired and went full-time, we lived in Texas and simply 'moved' to Livingston. At the time, we were both signed up for individual PPO health insurance. A couple of years later, insurance companies in Texas stopped offering individual PPO policies. By that time I was on Medicare, but not so for my wife. Our first move was to Washington state. No income tax, low registration fees, reasonable insurance rates. Becoming a resident was easy. For the motor home, we had to pay the difference between the sales tax we paid and the higher rate in Washington. Meeting the requirements of the health insurance company was daunting. We needed an electric bill or some such, which we didn't have. We finally satisfied them, I can't recall how. A few months later, they too stopped offering individual PPOs. Next stop was Florida. We read all the requirements on the Escapees site and made sure we followed them to the letter. We flew into Orlando with our documents, stopped in the county offices in The Villages. 90 minutes later, we left with new permanent drivers licenses, plates, registrations, and titles. Registration was inexpensive. Then came the phone call to the insurance company for our vehicles. After giving them all the information about our move, they quoted premiums that were more than double what we were paying in Washington. A change of insurance companies managed to keep the premium increase to about 50% more. My bride is going to qualify for Medicare at the end of 2022. Once she does, we'll 'move' again. I am guessing the insurance premium savings for the first year will pay for the trip to wherever we need to go.
  6. The star shows that your license meets the requirements for the federal RealID program. This is to allow you to use it for boarding an airplane flight. I'm not sure if the rules are in effect or if it has been postoned again. I didn't know that it matters for a car rental.
  7. I have two computers with Windows 11 and one with Windows 10. I don't see much difference except where Microsoft was trying to emulate some of their competitors and wound up dumbing down their interfaces. Windows 10 had a better start menu. When I had a routine task that required one mouse click in 10, I now have 2 or 3 mouse clicks in 11. That's a step backwards.
  8. There is a DOT scale immediately south of Bandon on Rt. 101. I have used it more than once when crabbing there.
  9. I 'moved' to Florida a few years ago. Escapees has a page with a listing of all the requirements to establish residence and domicile. We followed the list of required items and brought everything into the county office. About an hour later, we walked out with new licenses, titles, registrations and plate. A short drive to another county office registered our statements of domicile. Every time the county lady asked for a document, we had it. She commented that most people forget one thing or another, but we had everything. Find the page with the requirements and do everything it says. It's quick and it works.
  10. The one time I pulled into a weigh station, I got yelled at for wasting their time. From then on, if they want to weigh me, they'll have to chase me down. Been through dozens of states and Canadian provinces and never had a problem.
  11. Sorry for the delay. I am sending it now. For anyone else that wants a copy, I have put it here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1deQiLekBPFNiST0iafzFRYs-CK25pzkr?usp=sharing
  12. I saw a program on Nova many years ago about hydrogen. It's one of the safest flammable gases around. The big problems are storage and production. Since it is the lightest element known, it is difficult, but not impossible to store enough in a car to give it a reasonable range. As someone said earlier, since there is no carbon to combine with oxygen, the only byproduct of combustion is water.
  13. I was pretty sure this was true so I did a search. Here are the first two I found: https://dor.wa.gov/taxes-rates/retail-sales-tax/marketplace-fairness-leveling-playing-field/consumers-buying-out-state-sellers https://azdor.gov/individual-income-tax-filing-assistance/understanding-use-tax Here is a general explanation of sales tax. https://www.salestaxinstitute.com/sales_tax_faqs/out_of_state_retailer_collect_sales_tax By the way, states requiring use tax isn't new. I was originally from New England, so it was easy to go through 4 (or more) states in an hour's drive. My home state (Connecticut) wasn't bashful about letting us residents know about this.
  14. But you do report the purchase in your home state so you can pay use tax there, right? Many states require it. Besides looking at taxes there are other factors to consider. We are fulltimers and have changed our state of residence twice since we hit the road. Both times were for individual PPO health insurance. Here's what we learned along the way: In Washington state, sales tax for motor vehicles was higher than Texas where we moved from. Some weirdness in sales tax law allowed our Jeep to be accepted into the state without paying the difference. Our motor home, on the other hand was not exempted. They looked at the purchase price from several years earlier and calculated the difference between Texas and Washington. It was not an insignificant amount. After a visit to a local state revenue office, we got the sales tax portion down to a few hundred dollars. Since vehicle registration fees were so much lower than Texas, we could make up the difference in a couple of years. The only health insurance company offering PPO insurance had other plans, though. The next move was to Florida. Taxes were lower, as well as registration and license fees. Then we called the insurance company to move our vehicle insurance. "Sure!" they said. "No problem!" they said. "Give us a minute to recalculate your premium", they said. Upon hearing the new rate and after regaining consciousness, they explained that the 250% rate increase was because of hurricanes and some other stuff. After shopping around, we managed to get insurance with only a 50% increase in cost. It's not just taxes. It's everything. Once my sweet child bride qualifies for Medicare, we're going to do it all over again!
  15. If everyone used this amount of data, why would their bills skyrocket? Companies weren't forced to provide unlimited data, they voluntarily provided it. They built their networks with an assumption of what the average user would consume. When that average consumption increased due to more graphics, ads, video streaming, etc, their backend infrastructure needed to be upgraded. How are those upgrades going to be paid for? In the past, the fees they charged customers for their monthly service was used. Then someone got the bright idea they could charge for high usage. That's what they are trying. Naturally, customers are resisting. The problem is that many internet users cannot vote with their wallets. Many areas of the country only have one internet provider. When that's the case, users only have two choices when it comes to increased prices and fees. They can either take it or leave it. Imagine what would happen to prices or services if there was real competition? You may not remember it, but in the ancient past, networking gear wasn't capable of allowing you to use that much bandwidth in a month. Networking improved, the World Wide Web was invented and the use of the internet skyrocketed. While use has skyrocketed, the cost to transmit that data has plummeted. As we all get a more interconnected and use a more data, will the data caps increase or will it just be prices and fees increasing? In my opinion, they are not introducing data caps because they have a financial need. The most likely reason is that they don't have enough competition. Shareholders love it when they have little to no competition.
  16. As long as the router has power. You should be able to use most chargers. I am not sure if this model requires high power chargers or standard, older ones will work.
  17. I have the same setup, except I am using the more versatile AR-750. I have set the same one up for a friend who is not so computer literate. The document is too big to post here. If you PM me, I would be happy to email it. A couple of things to note. First, only use the Visible phone to provide internet to the router. Do not use it to try to access the router's admin page. In fact, Wifi for the Visible phone should be turned off. Also, there are two USB ports on the router. The smaller one (like the one on your phone) is only to power the router. Make sure it's plugged into the power supply that came with it and any lights are on. The larger USB port (that looks like one on a PC or laptop is the one you plug your Visible phone into. Once you have done that. Connect to the routers user interface using another phone, PC, tablet, or anything that can display a web page. That's how you configure the router. Let me know if you want a more detailed explanation or a copy of the document. I hope I made this clearer and not more confusing.
  18. We're in Mesa, AZ. We're full-time (since 2012) and don't HAVE to be anywhere. Our plan this summer was to slowly get to a campground in Massachusetts after visiting family in CO, TX, FL, and SC. We were supposed to leave here in April, yet we're still here. There was (and maybe still is) way too much uncertainty for traveling across the country. Our daughter, in CT, is married to a nurse who works in a COVID ward. She has MS and said we wouldn't be visiting even if we were there. My 72 YO sister and 99 YO mother are kinda the same way. In order to keep our site in Mesa, we have to pay for it year-round, even though we normally only use it for the winter season. With our savings and investments taking a hit, staying here also cuts down expenses. Since the site is paid for, all it costs is electricity (a LOT when the temps are more than 100°!). For the past couple of days, we have talked about going directly to MA, but maybe not. There is still way too much uncertainty.
  19. I do have an unlimited phone with Visible. Would I need to upgrade to 5G for this speed?😁
  20. I have been using Defender as long as I have been using Windows 10. Recently, I installed Adguard Home on my network and found some blocked sites that I don't think the PC should have tried to access. I thought it might be some sort of adware or spyware that got on the PC. I downloaded the free version of Malwarebytes and scanned the computer. The only thing it found was a program that I had written. I assume it's because there was nothing in the database about it. We practice safe computing. The only protection I use is Windows defender and Windows firewall. While Adguard Home claims to prevent malware/phishing sites, that's not its primary purpose.
  21. If there is little to no discount for DEF, there will be a 10% of the little to no discount. If there is no discount, there is no fee. If there is a penny discount per gallon, the fee would be $0.001 per gallon.
  22. Visible removed their speed restrictions months ago. I have both the grandfathered Verizon postpaid plan and the Visible prepaid plan. From a performance perspective, they are the same. There are routers that accept a USB tethered connection for not a lot of money. Combined with a Visible phone, you get great unlimited service.
