  1. I believe Goodyear started making their Endurance line of tires back in the U.S. ~ year or three ago. Other Goodyear lines ARE made in China.
  2. Thanks for the heads up Carl. With the easing (or outright dropping) of safety measures, I fully expect that things will get MUCH worse before they get better. I guess the outcome will be just how fast an effective vaccine can be developed and deployed. Even then, it will be prudent to restrict movement for some time after said deployment. I'm lucky that I have only myself to worry about and, have enough room in my RV to ward off cabin fever. I hope you and Donna continue to be safe and, the 2021 ECR will be able to be held.

  4. Two sources come to mind, 1: Rand McNally Motor Carrier's Road Atlas ("old school" paper maps BUT, you get a WEALTH of useful information) 2: www.lowclearances.com (new fangled software solution that can be added to many electronic GPS units).
  5. Hi Carl, I made it into a KOA in eastern TN in mid-March. I doubt Covid19 (along with accompanying complications) is going to be resolved anytime soon (say, the next three to six months), so I plan on sitting tight here. I had hoped to get back onto Long Island, NY to see my medical providers but, NY is too risky as far as I'm concerned. I am happy that, so far, "normal" daily supplies are still flowing (and I hope that continues to be the case). I generally venture out once every 7 ~ 10 days to resupply. There are still FAR too many people who, in my opinion, are NOT taking the Covid19 problem seriously and, continue to act irresponsibly. They could well keep the problem going much longer than if everybody acted responsibly. Add to this mess, the fact that a tiger in the Bronx Zoo has become infected (showing the Covid19 CAN "jump species") and, that China has recently announced a "second wave" of sickness, I see no "light at the end of the tunnel" at this time. I'm sure that everyone would love to "get back to normal" but, I'm not holding my breath for that to happen anytime soon. I hope you & Donna, as well as all of the HDT crowd, can isolate in place for as long as it takes. People need to find something to occupy their minds and not just be sitting around feeling desperate. May God bless us all.
  6. Congratulations on your new grandson! I think a two week window of "self isolation", ESPECIALLY with a new baby and a mother who will recently have gone through childbirth, is NOT NEARLY enough of a safety margin. At a minimum, check with the MD who is caring for the new mother & baby and ask THEIR opinion on what THEY think is a prudent time period.
  7. It's worse that what we're being told is happening; MUCH WORSE. Within the last few weeks, THOUSANDS of people, across the country, completely disregarded the idea of "Social Distancing and Isolation". They have now returned home where they're spreading whatever it was that they picked up and, are now in a position to infect many others. I read an hour ago where the Governor of WV has ordered WV campgrounds to NOT ACCEPT out of state residents. ALL Full Time RVers should find an RV park they CAN get into and hunker down. It's going to be MONTHS before we get anything close to "normal" travel being possible or allowed. For part time RVers, GET BACK TO YOUR HOME BASE ASAP! Expect critical elements of infrastructure to start failing (as evidenced by Chad Heiser's post) and, what Chad is reporting is just the tip of the iceberg. Many First Responders are stretched to the breaking point. When they finally start failing, it could quickly turn into a free for all. So far, there has been no mass panic that I'm aware of BUT, that could change in an instant; especially in highly populated areas. Now is a good time to start (or increase) your yoga practice. Not only will yoga help you remain calm but, when the time comes, you'll be better able to get your head between your legs to kiss your ess goodbye....

    Insurance

You've GOT to realize that there is NO easy answer to that question. Far too many variables that MUST be taken into consideration before an insurance agent / company will give a quote. Have yo checked the HDT Resource Guide? That's where I'd start. http://www.hhrvresource.com
  9. Hey Carl, you beat the WHO by one day! We should all be practicing yoga now. That way, when the time comes, people will be flexible enough to get their head between their legs and kiss their ess goodbye I haven't received the refund email yet but, I trust it will arrive soon. Thank you and Donna for all the hard work you've put in. I hope the situation will be much improved by October and will see y'all at the National.
  10. I wonder if that means we're going to be chased out after our rally?
  11. ..."rides better when empty,"... I have to disagree on this one. A friend has an F350 and an F450 both with the "King Ranch" packages. When NOT loaded, each has a terrible ride.
  12. I'm looking forward to both presentations!
  13. Carl, did Deer Run suffer any damage from the recent tornado activity? Is that two lane access road still accessible?
  14. "Dirt" has done double towing (and possibly even triple towing). He hasn't been to HDT rallies recently but, maybe another HDTer has contact info for him. As already mentioned, you are likely to be "noticed" by at least some LEOs. Make sure you have ALL your paperwork in proper order.
  15. Isn't that what wives are for.............
  16. Looks like a really sweet rig! I really like the LACK of graphics.
  17. Amen to that Carl! May God keep them safe while they're keeping us safe.
  18. Hi Carl! I understand that theft (of both tractors and trailers) are a serious problem. I expect that a tractor that has been converter from commercial service would be a less attractive target but, if it's "easy" to take, a thief probably will. I've read that thieves carry jammers that render things like LOJACK (or other trackers) ineffective. 5ers (and trailers in general) are attractive targets too and, MOST states pay VERY little attention to trailers. Apparently, it's NOT difficult to re-VIN a trailer which will make registering said trailer in another state easy. After 32 years as a Police Officer, I KNOW that there ARE evil people out there and, for a variety of reasons, their numbers seem to be increasing. EVERYBODY needs to be aware of what's going on around them (a concept called "Situational Awareness"). Most people go through life in "Condition White" (ie clueless). Ideally, you want to live in "Condition Yellow" (relaxed awareness). Bad guys quickly figure out who are "easy targets". The more you can be in Condition Yellow, the less likely you are to become an "easy target". A simple nod of acknowledgement (and maybe a smile or "good morning") lets a potential "bad guy" know that you're aware of his (or her) presence and, that simple act can reduce the likelihood of you being his next victim. MOST cellphones have cameras these days. Don't be afraid to use them! If that little voice in your head is speaking up, LISTEN TO IT! Snap a picture of things that set off your internal alarm. If questioned / challenged as to why you're snapping pictures, answer that your friend who is a Police Officer recommended you do so when you felt that something was "off" (you won't be lying, I've just recommended you do so!). DON'T offer money or give any indication of what valuable you might have. If solicited, politely decline and offer to dial 911 for them. If they TRULY need help, they'll accept that offer. If they're scammers, the LAST thing they'll want is having the LAW notified of their presence. Nervousness on their part is a solid sign that they're up to no good; a perfect tome to snap a picture of them, their vehicle / license plate, their accomplices (practice snapping a picture when it looks like you're simply making a call) so they might not realize you're taking their picture. As RVers (especially full timers), we tend to be trusting of others because we've met so many wonderful people in our travels. The world HAS changed and, we need to adapt, especially to the negative changes. Make sure you're doing the simple things. LOCK doors and compartments. Don't leave attractive "stuff" out when you're away. Talk to your new neighbors. Let friends / family know if / where / when you'll be away from "civilization". Allow trusted people to follow your phone (or other device). Apple has "Find My" (used to be Find My Friends) and Android has a similar App. If you spend a LOT of time "off the grid", consider a GPS based device that will allow you to send a text along with your exact coordinates. I believe Garmin is one company offering such devices. They're NOT inexpensive BUT, they could truly be a life saver. I apologize if I've rambled too long. What I've listed is really just the "tip of the iceberg". Simply be more AWARE will keep you safe MOST of the time but, in life, there really are NO absolute guarantees of safety. STAY SAFE! Regards, John

    Downsizing a HDT

Definitely brought a smile to my face!
  21. Nice photo! Sorry I couldn't make it in time to be in the picture. I was advised Monday evening that they may have to pull a slide OUT of the rig in order to swap refrigerators. I called the KSF office yesterday re mail / packages I've had sent there. I'll let you know when I get on the road. Where will you be heading to after the rally? Regards, John Koenig
  22. If you have the MONEY to back up your "dream rig", there are people and shops who can make it happen. In the Elkhart area, there will be NUMEROUS customizers and up-fitters. I'm currently STILL in Elkhart, IN at MasterTechRV (574-522-6224, 4800 Beck Drive, Suite A Elkhart, IN, 46516) getting some major upgrades for my Super-C. MTRV is "sort of" in the home stretch on my project but, with an 850 mile drive to the National HDT Rally, I might not get to Hutchinson until it's over
  23. You DON'T carry your own fire extinguishers?
  24. Maybe if you got a "running start".............
