  1. If you are buying a truck? A 250/2500 is not what you should have to tow a 15,000 # trailer. The pin weight will overload the truck. 250/2500 don't have the weight rating to tow a 15,000 # fiver. I wouldn't buy a gas engine. Diesel is the way to go. Yes, it will be a lot more. I tow a 16,000 # fifth wheel with a 2019 F350, Crew Cab, long bed, 4X4, diesel, SRW and that does the job well. My 2011 F250 didn't do so well and it was overloaded.
  2. Thanks, Kirk, I have been following it as well.
  3. Someone above indicated no humidity in SE Texas? That may be for a day or two after a cold front comes thru but I wouldn't say no humidity, ever in SE Texas. I have lived in SE Texas for more then 47 years and I think we have the worst weather in the entire country!
  4. The Texas coast during winter may not always have the desired weather. Further south, South Padre Island, can have better weather.
  5. I have tried the discount cards trying to save money on fuel. Where those discount cards are used I have found the fuel to be so expensive that they don't offer any discount at all. I use Gas Buddy to find fuel prices near by.
  6. Starting on January 1st my Medicare Advantage plan will cover us for emergency care in a large number of Countries, including Canada.
  7. I would not get a 2500, I moved up to an F350 for a 16,500 fifth wheel. I get milage about what is noted above. Diesel is the way to go.
  8. Walmart in New Caney, TX, has had the lowest fuel prices around since they opened almost three years ago. Currently $2.84 for unleaded and $2.99 for diesel. The station is very busy all of the time. There are four fuel stations nearby and they all sell gas and diesel for one cent more per gallon then Walmart. Many times I buy fuel at the other four stations because the Walmat is so busy. I have also seen fuel station rage at that Walmart regarding who fuels next or if you must go in to pay before fueling some people don't how long it takes. It is not a good place for RVs because it is not laid out well.
  9. You also got to retire at age 57 and I had to work 10 years more. Additionally, I was putting $30,000 per year into my 403b retirement account and during that 10 years I had to pay for wife's medical insurance which was over $900 per month until the last two years, when it dropped to $700 per month. My Medicare Advantage plan is also a lot better then the $900 or $700 planes I had at work for those 10 years. My good fortune was that stocks have been good for a long time overall. In my case Mr. Schwab and Mr. Lynch were correct.
  10. Regarding the stock market, I read many books in the mid eighties, the best two were written by Charles Schwab and Peter Lynch. I mostly followed the advice from their books. I had to wait until I was 66 due to SS and Medicare. All of my retirement funds are in mutual funds, 80% stocks and 20% bonds. I retired on September 1st, 2016 with an IRA of $1,200,000. After taking $6,000 per month since then, the current balance of the IRA is $1,300,000. Stock mutual funds have been good to me since I started funding my retirement account, it was a 403b account while I was working. About one third of the $1,200,000 was what I put in, one third was what my company put in for me and the other third was growth of the account. Those men stated in their books that stocks where betting on the US and they thought that was a good idea and it worked for me. As I watched my parents aged, I noticed that as they got older they didn't require as much money. No longterm care for them. Mother died of a stroke at 84 and my Father at 90 with heart failure one year later,
  11. When I first moved to Texas in the early seventies we were required to have a DPS Trooper to inspect, or at least look at the vehicle, to be sure it was the vehicle you were registering. That was for out of state vehicles that we were registering in Texas. that was more then fifty years ago. I have not heard of that since then?
  12. I would call them. Some Escapee RV Parks don't take reservations. I have made reservations via telephone at the AL park in the past.
  13. I have bought and sold a number of autos in Texas and never needed a bill of sale?
  14. Good Sam, Credit Union or your local financial institution. I obtain the credit required then see what the dealer offers but in your case, no dealer. Please be sure that you are buying an RV that doesn't have issues like delamination of frame issues. Good Luck
  15. There are some very nice ones in CA. I wouldn't call them inexpensive.
  16. Having been born and raise in NJ, left in 1973, I know of many people who moved to DE from NJ after they retired. I still have relatives who did that and are still there.

    Joy-Joy

Progressive Insurance was a pleasure to work a claim with. Fast, absolutely no hassle. The adjuster dealt with Camping World and it was done in a week. It looked like yours but not as bad. I went with Progressive because someone posted on the Forest River site how easy they were to deal with.
  18. Kelsey Seybold Advantage Plan. I will take my chances with non emergency care and save the over $7,000 per year.
  19. Or you could live in NJ which has very high real estate taxes and high insurance cost in addition to state income tax. I do have friends who retired and moved out of NY because the real estate taxes where over $10,000 per year for an average house.
  20. I think it will take more then electric autos, but they are a part of the solution. I recently read that Germany gets 60% of its electricity from renewables.
  21. Thanks Kirk even though it depresses me! My Texas real estate tax when up four fold. I protested at their hearing following my written protest and it helped but not enough.
