  1. We will be at the HDT Rally also. Really looking forward to seeing everyone. Heidi, Still saying 'Wow" to your new home. It is lovely. Sharon, glad you had such a productive summer! I bet you are exhausted. Alicia, I looked through your May 31 album. I sure hope you guys stayed in your vehicle! The photos are amazing. Davena and Suzan, Are you feeling settled in your new homes yet? Safe travels all! Susan
  2. Hey Rocky - sorry we aren't there in Austin to share a meal together. We'll be in Goshen, IN at the Elkhart County Fairgrounds for the next week followed by a short jaunt up to MorRyde for a some new axles, brakes, wheels and tires.
  3. Yep, Bob is a great Truck Mechanic and most trustworthy. Thanks Jack for recommending him a few years back. The Truck is getting a check up right now.
  4. Hey Heidi! Your post prompted me to check out the last of the pictures Robert uploaded. Even the "in progress" pictures look beautiful. I can't wait to see it in person. Safe Travels and enjoy your new home! ~S
  5. For the record, I am not going to swim with the manatee, just watch them (at least I hope to watch them!) Sounds like the ECR is beginning to fill up. You ladies have fun and keep reporting!
  6. We absolutely enjoyed our afternoon with you and Raymond also! It was a blessing! Sharon, Keep us posted on the progress - I know you would both love to be rid of that property (at a fair price of course!) Heidi, I am enjoying the progress of your build. It is looking more and more like a home rather than just a bunch of steel! We are in Cocoa, FL for a few more weeks doing a little work and a little sight-seeing at the same time. After years of wanting to see a Spring Training game (Astros) we finally made it to one! Next on our list to see are Ball games in Miami and Tampa - we've been to all MLB parks except these two in FL and two in Southern CA. I am also determined to see Manatee in the wild before we leave here. I am told that shouldn't be difficult. I am guessing folks are coming out of winter hibernation and will begin northern treks soon. I'd love to hear where folks are traveling.
  7. Hey Rick We arrived Saturday afternoon, just two steps ahead of the storms (baseball sized hail - yikes!). We don't yet know what our responsibilities will be this week but if we are available we'd love to see y'all as you pass through. We're at exit 201 - Sonrise Palms RV Park. Same exit as the Camping World.
  8. Jack, we'd love to come and see the progress on all the truck beds but we are taking the I-10 route to get over to Florida. We did consider it even before we left Austin. The hope and plan is to get to Colorado Springs (early May) to get some visiting in and to see y'alls new stuff!
  9. Heading out for Year #3 - first destination - Cocoa, FL
  10. Sorry to hear that rain storm got y'all but it sure was good to share the time and hear about this year's projects.
  11. Hey Heidi! Have you decided on a new trailer or remodel? Whatever it is, I look forward to seeing it and I hope you have fun planning! Are you guys still out west, or have you moved east? Sharon, I never saw an answer to the questions regarding Richard's recovery. Is he back to normal yet? Has it been too cold and wet to fish? I keep hoping you get better weather, but it doesn't seem to stop dripping from the sky. Aggie, I saw the AZ weather report the other day. BRRR! Then again, I bet that is nothing compared to Michigan winters! Alicia, those were gorgeous pictures! Do you think you could have gotten animal shots worth showing without a zoom lens? We need to start looking for a better zoom option... after batteries and tires! Janet, Enjoy the Tampa Show! (confession: Since you are gone this week, I am sending in my recipes NEXT weekend. Yes, I am a slacker!) You ladies stay warm and dry! It is cold out there! ~S
  12. Trey and Susan: Buda, TX (just south of Austin) We are both working here until the second or third week of March. We are parked right next door to Cabela's so if you head this way, stop by and say hello! Janet, how is the cookbook coming? I never sent in any recipes Is there still time? Don't wait for me, cause my schedule is not my own right now, but will try to get something together by next weekend if it is not too late. Sorry for the procrastination - it just seems like we've been living in the fast lane ever since we left Hutchinson. Oh, how I long for the end of March! To those of you still traveling, be safe in the road!
  13. Alicia, I'm glad you got some "wheel time!" Keep up the good work! Unless you do a long haul where you need to rest the main driver, it is difficult to remember to get behind the wheel occasionally. Sharon, I'm glad to hear that Richard might be feeling good enough to get crappie by the weekend. Such a scary fall for any of us! I hope you get tons of sunshine this weekend - we've had far too many cloudy days this winter. Thanks for posting the birthdays! I'm sure I will forget most before their day comes, but I can remember today - and maybe tomorrow! 2-pedal, 3 pedal, steers, drives, weed burners, stacks... these are things we need to write down so Jack and Danielle can know where our gaps of information are and help us during those "Ladies Only" classes at the next rally. I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone again next year (and maybe meeting a few new faces - Rachel and Trish!) Sue, I am getting excited to see how your truck bed is looking! The pictures I've seen lead me to believe that the end is very near! Hang in there! Christmas and New Years was good for us. I've been working in Austin (temp winter job) since mid-November and will continue until late March. Having friends and family close by has been wonderful, but I am so ready to hit the road again! That 6 AM alarm clock is not my friend!
  14. OK, not to brag, but I saw the kitty condo yesterday and I have to say I've not seen anything like it! It was awesome! I'm pretty sure whatever pictures Sharon gets of it will not do it justice! Aggie, you will love it! Your cats would love it more! Sharon and Richard, I hope your travels are safe and the fishing is bountiful! We really enjoyed getting to visit with you both! Please let us know next time you are nearby. We also got to see Rocky and Sheri two weeks ago before they headed south. Raquel and Trish, the pictures are great! All moved in yet? Oh no. Trey just told me about the events in CT. I am praying for all those hurt by this man's selfishness. Some days I would just rather live in a hole.
  15. Raquel and Trish, congratulations on the trailer! I look forward to pictures and stories upon your return! We now are settled in in Texas for the winter: we are both working until the end of March. Trey noticed a bubble in one of the drive tires as we unhitched for the last time until Spring. There had been no pressure change in the TPMS. We planned to replace the steers in 2013 and the drives in 2014. It now looks like we will bite the bullet and replace all six tires in 2012. I do not like the idea of spending so much money all at once, but I am thankful that the bubble was found before a blowout was revealed. This truly has been a thanks-filled Thanksgiving season! May you all stay safe and warm as the cold weather comes in! Susan
  16. What a coincidence, Aggie. I just made orange marmalade with my mother and sister-in-law yesterday! Other than that, I don't do jams. Well, I did make loquat jelly once - we had a tree in tree front yard. I think my tree produced about a cup of jelly after a couple hours of work. It was yummy (sweet and tangy), but not worth the effort!
  17. Well, we are currently on I-10 somewhere between Beaumont and Houston headed west. We will visit my mom this week (Bellville, TX) and head to Austin on Thursday for our work. We will be in South Austin until March. I'm glad the Birthday girls had good days! I will have to try that hand sanitizer. Janet, I almost emailed you yesterday just to say that we were passing by your place, but never did. Thanks for the invitation to come by - I'm sure one day we will! Raquel, I don't envy the tasks before you. Sharon, We haven't really stopped since the Rally. Been to SC, then FL, now back to TX. I'm exhausted. We will be in South Austin/Buda (Crestview RV) over Thanksgiving. We will be living right across the street from Cabelas, so I you should definitely visit. If you do come by, look for the Travel Supreme, not the Volvo. We store the truck in the back. Heidi, I have so many questions about all the plans y'all are making. I look forward to seeing a post from you soon. Sue, I always like to know how things work, so I took pictures of our truck when it was naked (before JW put the bed on it) I am determined to one day know as much as these guys - or maybe just to be able to follow most conversations. Confession time: Remember when Heidi mentioned that we should all drive our truck trailer combos regularly just to keep in practice? I think we all agreed it was a good idea, but have we all done it? I got behind the wheel of the attached truck for the first time in months yesterday and realized how long it had been since I had driven with the trailer. I hope those of you who can drive are practicing. It has been so easy to just let Trey drive all the time since we rarely drive long days. Keep reminding me to drive! ACK!!! So glad I am not driving now. Just as I finished the last sentence, Trey had to panic stop after going around a curve. Went from 60 down to 30 mph on Interstate 10. Some yahoo was going 30 mph on the interstate! The vehicle three ahead slammed on his brakes and those behind him had to also. Trey stood from his seat pressing the brake to the floor, I saw the space between the car ahead of us (and three ahead of him) get smaller and smaller. My ears couldn't hear any tires squealing from a skid - that was good. I glanced in the side mirror ans saw the trailer and truck were stopping in a straight line (all brakes working) and the person behind us hadn't hit us yet - also good. I glanced forward again and saw that we were in fact going to stop in time - all very good! At that point I began breathing again - but just barely. Trey's only comment once we were safe: "I hate Houston!" I'd best get off the computer now and help Trey look out for other Houstonians attempting to kill us. Remember to keep safe following distances - I think that just saved us!
  18. If our rig is clean, it is about 20-30 uninterrupted minutes for the inside. We have no glass items, no "pretties", no decor to remove, and we share most duties (so we are both inside and outside). Another time saver: I do NOT have to clean up little ones who have recently encountered mud puddles! This estimate only includes packing, moving, and securing the inside. I usually try to thoroughly clean the evening before moving days - I didn't include that time. This is a great question, Heidi. I look forward to hearing what experiences others have.
  19. Janet, Thanks for organizing the recipes! They will be great, I'm sure. Two questions: Is there a deadline for submission? Do you want them in any particular format? Sue, it is exciting to listen to the progress on your truck. I went into a truck lighting store once and it was too much stimulation for my little brain. Pretty to look at, but how do you decide what you want/need? Sounds like everyone made it safely from the rally to their next destination. I look forward to reading more about everyone's adventures here.
  20. Hey Sharon! First, I commend you on your diligence to keep this thread active. I don't post as much as I should, but I will try to do better. 1. Coolest idea: I loved Randy and Nancy's truck mods (trailer mods too): battery panel, extra lights, just about everything I saw. If you get a chance to see his truck, don't pass it by. 2. Pearl of info: I usually consider truck air leaks a nuisance, but one of the round table discussions made the point that some are quite dangerous (potential brake failure) I need to pay more attention to these safety issues and consistently communicate such things to Trey. "Know your truck. Know your truck. Know your truck." 3. Surprising thing: Not really surprising, but this week has really gave me the opportunity to get to know HDT folks so much better. We truly are an amazing and talented collection of individuals and it is such a privilege to be a part of this group. Thanks all for your openness and generosity! One last thought for you ladies who want to follow this thread, but don't get on the forum much. There is a "Watch this Thread" button a the top of each page. If you click it you will get an email each time the thread is updated. Just click the link in the email and it will take you directly to the new post.
  21. Raquel, I can "pass tools" with the best of them! Unless it is one-man job, I am usually there assisting Trey on most projects. I enjoy seeing the repair process and learning how things work. In my ignorance I also ask questions that sometimes leads my husband to frustration and sometimes lead him to a new, better idea - it is a blessing and a curse! I keep the truck clean (and somewhat organized) and I have attempted minor repair jobs. I once (or twice) tore into the truck fridge to see if I could make it work (I couldn't!) I can hook up a battery minder, but I wouldn't venture into slicing and splicing wires and such things. I won't touch things that would take lots of $$$ to repair if I messed up. I have done simple maintenance and repair on the trailer. Most of those projects involve taking things apart and putting them back together - usually with the purpose of making them work better - mostly with success. I am quite good at making lists of things I want Trey to do. I am somewhat less sucessful at actually getting those things done! Davena, We still aren't sure if we will be at this year's Rally, but I like Heidi's idea of sharing organizational and storage tips for the truck and trailer. ~Susan
  22. Hey Bob Sorry we missed your post. We are now in Northern Minnesota for a few days.
  23. Minneapolis Minnesota to watch a Twins Game (one more Baseball park checked off the list)
  24. In Chicago/Elgin (Burnidge Forest Preserve/Paul Wolff Campground) until June 10 or 11. Then headed to Lincoln, Nebraska.
