  1. The second listed link to SmartAsset.com has a wealth of information - but the information is segmented and spread over multiple sections. Try this link instead for a start: https://smartasset.com/taxes/ A few years ago my research showed that it would cost me about $800. more in taxes to live in Arizona than Washington State. The site does not provide sunny dry days compared to wet, gray soggy days - so there's that omission.
  2. We're looking at "statistics" - and as has been said before "statistics lie". So don't put your eggs (or faith) all in one basket. Notably the "Quality of Life" column I found interesting. Northern states tend to rate higher on "Quality of Life" which, to me, suggests a sampling from younger people - people that are active and enjoy the challenges of weather. Consider; a person with a low surface to mass ratio (fat) might enjoy cooler and drier weather. While the slender and older person might (is it safe to say "will") enjoy warmer more humid climates. Schwab's statistical chart should have stuck with raw tax numbers.
  3. Well then the $10 fee Kirk mentioned is a good deal if he's not having to do it himself.
  4. That's for broker assisted purchases. "0" for on line trades.
  5. To my knowledge, there was no fee at Schwab. But then my purchase was far more than 10K. Management companies often use Schwab or others to make purchases from brokers. AUM (Assets Under Management) have a fee but CD's and Tbills are not included in AUM to my knowledge. Thus, probably, the $10 charge is a handling fee which could be expected from hired management.
  6. No, mostly because I don't understand IF there is an advantage. Especially if one holds until maturity. 6,9 and 12 month Tbills at Schwab are at 5% (+). Is there an advantage to using Treasury Direct? What would the advantage be?
  7. An example of small, tiny, tiny achievements turning into gigantic success stories is the Haber-Bosch process. This led to the food on our table today (and a world population of 8 billion people). Small but significant achievements are notable for that reason.
  8. Side note: For "automatic" renewals I use PayPal for it's unique feature of limiting the "renewal". And PayPal will use my regular credit card to make the payment - so no additional PayPal card required. If one choses to set the payment to non-renewal, PayPal will prevent the renewal charge at the end of the period (usually one year). My banks don't have that feature.
  9. Similar in price and features: https://www.costco.com/dell-inspiron-27-7000-series-all-in-one-touchscreen-desktop---12th-gen-intel-core-i7-1255u---geforce-mx550---1080p---windows-11.product.100987811.html Includes touchscreen and more memory. I saw one in Costco but not sure it was the identical model - the monitor would not "rotate" but it did "tilt" a few degrees.
  10. It cost at least 1 mpg to tow. And that might be dependent on how "grippy" the tow vehicle tires are and it's frontal contour.
  11. I did a complete tow package install on my Rubicon. Proportional braking system, baseplate, wiring harness, etc. etc. and it was a lot of work. I estimated my labor charge would have been $1000. (9 years ago). I guess I work for cheap.
  12. Sometimes this is useful: http://oss.weathershare.org/?clat=40.5&clng=-114&zoom=5#.Vx-ar_llDIX
  13. It seems like Tesla is a big fish finding itself in a pond of piranhas.
  14. I've visited the Jeep Wrangler forum quite a bit and never saw death wobble as a problem like you describe. I think most (or at least "many") Jeep owner add lift kits and over-sized tires. There-in could lie alignment problems. My Jeep Rubicon has both, lift and tires, but never a death wobble. And I've towed it many thousands of miles. And I've run with an off-road Wranglers group down super washboard roads at speed - enough to beat the living daylights out of the Jeep. Still no death wobble. That said, the Wrangler is not my favorite for comfort. I've been looking at the Jeep Trailhawk with Active Drive II which allows for flat towing - and it has more of a town-car comfort. If you're not planning on hard core off roading, then you might take a look at the Trailhawk.
  15. Mexico has speed bumps everywhere. "Topes" as they are called. Plus, roads are terribly potholed. He probably damage the truck by hitting topes and potholes. Or maybe he's used the truck for his 5th wheel. Does he have a 5-th wheel modification on the truck? Plus, he's an insurance agent. Does one suppose that he knows how to work the system? Bye the way, rear axle ratings by the truck manufacturer are around 9,000 pounds. The axle manufacturer rates them at 11,000 pounds. The truck manufacturer de-rates the axle so that does not exceed the tire load capacity. Normally, the tire or wheel will fail when overloaded.
  16. This story has been out for a couple of months. I looked into the truck owners Facebook page. A couple of points the owner posted. The owner is an insurance agent. The owner also has a 5th wheel. The vehicle was in Mexico. You detective sleuths might conjure up a hypothesis as to what really happened.
  17. Keep cards in RFID sleeves. Google for: credit card sleeves. Apparently, there are Proximity devices that can read cards. I had a neighbor once that had it happen to him.
  18. I and friends have truck campers on dual rear wheel axle pickup trucks. Would we experience problems bringing those trucks into Mexico? And, we might want to leave the group and remain in Mexico on our own for a while longer. Would that be a problem? BTW, here's the link: https://mexicocaravans.com/eclipse.html
  19. $200. This one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LZJH63M?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details It scans up to an 8 x 10 It scans legal size documents. It saves to JPG or PDF It's quick and it doesn't bind. The only down side is that it doesn't come with a dust cover and it takes up space when not in use. We accumulated huge binder photo albums and I'm quickly reducing their size and weight. So, the purchase was probably a good buy. You might check the Amazon Warehouse or Outlet for a better price deal.
  20. Very, very helpful. The digital temperature controller and modification of the heating pad makes this a "doable" project. Lots of good information. Even the football.
  21. "How the World Really Works " by Vaclav Smil GatesNotes describes it well: https://www.gatesnotes.com/Books/How-the-World-Really-Works
  22. Apparently, membership is not required. I see the charge on my credit card but have not received a confirmation email from them yet.
