  1. We have something similar to infoshot. Dually quad with 2 10' kayaks. We have a Yakama rack cross wise over the cab. Then a kayak carrier, that really is a saddle, one each mounted on each bar. We have tried numerous ways to haul them up there but stacking works the best for us. Two ratchet straps, each over the kayaks and anchored to the Kayak saddles. Then a ratchet strap from the rear of the kayaks that attaches to the base of the fiver hitch. One ratchet strap from the front of the kayaks to the top of our front mounted bike carrier. We put them up and down from the roof with a Big Boys' Toystore (Harbor Frieght) $50.00 remote winch. Works really well. Been in some strong winds between Twin Falls, ID. and Las Vegas with no problems.
  2. DuneElliot, please report back how you make out.
  3. No wonder the dentists are busy over in Algodones, Mexico near Yuma!
  4. tinstartrvir, Are you asking about a lot in a RV Park? RV lots here in the Foothills in Yuma, AZ. are eligible for loans as they are in residential areas.
  5. Steve44, when you went thru the library at the Biltmore House, did you notice what kind of man George Vanderbilt was??
  6. rockintom, you are right on the money. It is all in the registration sticker now. LEO needs to run it to see if it was inspected. Bigjim we have done it on line ever since they started the new deal with being out of state. Never has been a problem but you will probably receive a letter later saying you aren't inspected. We just put that in the round file, in other words "deep six it".
  7. Not a member of the classes nor did I know Lee. But his posts were just outstanding as many times he would have me in stitches just reading them. I do know one thing, he loved life and did it his way RIP Lee.
  8. heyduke, not a classless member but in Nebraska just west of Omaha on I-80, Strategic Air Command (SAC) Air Museum. Also in Lincoln is Speedy Smith's speed museum. museumofamericanspeed.com/ If feeling a need for speed the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame and Museum in Knoxville, IA. Also in Iowa is Blue Bunny Ice Cream in Le Mars, IA.
  9. My Shurflow 2088 started to leak around the head in May 2014 after about 10 years of fulltime use, but not using the pump all the time. We were in Twin Falls, ID. at the time and headed to Alaska and I rode down the road to Bish's RV, who advertises a big RV parts department. Well the "parts guy" told me that all we have is the 4008 pump as you can't get the head for the 2088. Of course I took his word very lightly but did get a 4008 as not wanting to play games on the way to Alaska. Saved the 2088 just "in case". Thought I'd look in RV joints if anywhere nearby for the 2088 head. Didn't get to look on our way north but when I got done booking a boat to a glacier in Seward, AK. there was a huge True Value Hardware store across the street. Just had to go in. Clothing, fishing, hunting, boating, etc. As I perused the marine department the light came on. Boaters use Flow Jet and Shurflow pumps. Sure enough, there was pin with five 2088 pup heads hanging. $19.95. Rebuilt the pump and we use it to pump from five gallon containers of water when we dry camp. Well as luck would have it, last week back in Twin Falls, and the 4008 starts cycling about every five minutes. So I knew it was going to be a waste of time but the devil made me do it. Back down to Bish's "big parts dept." as they have been advertising that they bought out Brockman RV out along I-84 and combined the parts departments. Well having been in Brockmans a few years prior and knowing their parts were nearly non-existent I sure wasn't getting my hopes up. The trip sure didn't let me down. Same "parts guy" as two years prior said "oh, you can't get just the heads for the 4008, just the whole pump". I said " well I try to buy locally but I believe I can get it on the inet. Sure enough, come back and there are places that even have the separate parts for the head. I forget most of the time but have run across numerous RV parts at boat shops. Don't know what your problem is with the pump but don't give up.
  10. If you go to West Marine.com you can find all sorts of configurations and fill capacity of metal or plastic tanks. I went with plastic. I would keep the fuel supply system in a separate compartment or area. I put our 18 gal. tank beside the Marquise Gold 7000 separated by a metal wall. Also most of those tanks come with a fuel gauge sending unit in them. I bought a fuel gauge, wired it thru the 12 volt supplied for the hour meter and this set-up has served us well for 13 years of fulltiming.
  11. Is this the first time you plugged the trailer in to this truck?
  12. Sure sounds like something that would work!
  13. The Lavins, one of our favorite places. 16 day maximum stay.
  14. Having been a 50 plus year resident of Pennsylvania that has a yearly state vehicle inspection, I have no studies but what I see while we have been touring the western states for eleven years the program has merit. Unfortunately a lot of the public will drive their vehicle and I'm only talking safety items here, until something happens. Seen quite frequently, especially in Arizona since we do six months there, are cars sitting along the road with a snapped ball joint. Or I'm sitting at a traffic light and a vehicle pulls up beside me with the that tell tale squeal of metal to metal brake pads or lining stopping the vehicle. Illegal equipment or lights out or completely missing. I don't really want to get into what is checked on PA. state inspection as it is fairly comprehensive and I hate typing. Now as far as Texas's inspection goes I think it is a laugher. When we were transferring our vehicles over to Texas in 2003, I asked a person at Rainbows End what the inspection covered. His answer was simple "all they want is that $14.50". After taking the truck and trailer thru, his words rang true. Now I will also say that in PA. there are some unscrupulous shops that will screw folks, but it is in the minority and if you think that was the case just call the PA. State Police Substation and talk to the inspection officer.
  15. Ron and Linda, no problem and it was just a hunch on my part. Glad it worked out. And most of all, thanks for reporting back what was found and I know Kirk who posts on this site also likes to hear a report of what folks have found. It really does help out down the road. Safe travels and have a great day!
  16. Ron and Linda, first I am in unison with your RV mechanic. Since I do 99% of my own work here is where I would start. Jack up one wheel just so it is just off the ground. Make sure the wheel spins freely. Then pull the break away cable, turn the wheel again and see if it locks up in about a 1/2 revolution. If it doesn't, check for voltage on the wire going to that wheel. If no voltage, then you will have to back track towards the break away. If you have voltage try winding the self adjuster out so the lining goes closer to the drum, then pull the cable again and check to see if there is any difference from the first time. A word of caution, don't let your break away cable pulled out for long periods of time. If there is no difference the second time pull the drum off the hub. My bet is the magnet and lining will be grease SOAKED. I have the Dexter E-Z Lube junk on our rig. They had never been serviced since new and the first indication of issues was light oil that had separated from the over filled hub gradually oozing out over the wheel. I pulled the drums and every hub was the same, entirely too much grease by the factory. I never did use the E=Z Lube system nor will I ever. I'm old school, just hand pack the bearings. Hope you find something else, but like I said, the RV mechanic is probably right on the money. If this is the case it is cheaper to buy the backing plate with all new parts already on it than buying individual pieces. Let us know how you make out. Just remembered a guy that was in Swan Lake, MT. a couple of years ago asked about poor braking on his trailer. I went to look and the first thing I saw, was the zerk fittings on the end of the hub. He pulled a drum and there was grease everywhere, His had never been serviced either since new, so the factory in there ignorance overfilled the hub.
  17. lynlou, I replied on your other post a couple of minutes ago.
  18. We will wait and see how this plays out like some of the others here. I can't imagine how many construction companies operate out of Texas and the vehicles never come back in state. I just don't see those outfits running the vehicles back to the state for a sticker.
  19. Those folks on here looking for a reasonable priced Elks Lodge check Gila Bend, AZ. 2089 Lodge. Very easy to work with.
  20. MSKAYNDAN, your Verizon will be good in Libby and several miles up Rt 37. Then again at Osprey Point Boat Ramp on Rt 37. That is about it until getting near the bridge that crosses Lake Koocanusa as you are going toward Rexford. Last year there was temporary service at the juction of Fisher Rd. and Rt 37 when there was a fire several miles away and they set up a temporary tower for the fire camp near Blackwells Guide Service. We just finished 2 weeks at COE Blackwell Flats Rec area on the Kootenai River just below the dam. One of our favorite areas.
  21. Jim and Sandie, that is a wonderful place. We just left there Wednesday after a week and headed on north. Chris, who lives in the modular house by the flag pole does a fine job of keeping the place nice. The showers and bathrooms are great. Maybe if the weather is good the model airplane guys will be at their strip in the park. If we go up or down I-15 we always stop there. We have never seen it full. If it were, you can plug in at the pavillion or dry camp down by the Snake River. Real low key operation.Enjoy!
