  1. The Suby has a unibody. Being raised around farm equipment, it is, to me, mind bending that a unibody is considered sufficient to attach a receiver hitch to. Here is a video showing the install: https://youtu.be/kOAJo84YbiQ. I really like the Suby, so I’m not commenting from an negative viewpoint. Just know what it is and consider my comments as an input along the way!
  2. Highly recommend that the Scamp has brakes. I believe that is optional on that model. We have a 2010 Forester for which I installed a 2” receiver that we use for cargo carrier and bike racks only. After seeing what the receiver hitches are attached to on the Forester, I would not be in favor of towing a trailer with it. JMO!
  3. ...you mean a gold digger??😉
  4. Live in MD and have never ever considered entering a weigh station in MD or anywhere else. Begs the question: Are there any states that require RVs go through their weigh stations??
  5. We lived on Oahu for 8 1/2 yrs and I can’t recall a day there that ,due to the weather, we wished we were somewhere else!,......does that count for pleasant living??
  6. Lots of folks on You Tube experimenting with ram pumps. The check valves can be noisy as you can hear on the videos. Pumps can be made quieter by using ball check valves, and/ or submerging the ram pump in the stream.
  7. In the right circumstance, a ram pump could lift the water from the stream without electricity.
  8. Re: Are campsites really getting harder to get? Do you think that social media has created this perception?

  11. You should check out the website Chalkie has recommended. It has all the known military campgrounds listed and provides websites (when available) for the Famcamps so you can get more in-depth info on each location. We have stayed at many of these campgrounds and appreciate the convenience they offer in our travels. We agree that they are not always the cheapest since most do not offer weekly or monthly rates, but there are some that offer resort type amenities or locations that are hard to match. Try them out!
  12. We had the same symptom occur at two locations in central PA. Running several check switch /and reboots did not clear it. Disconnected coax fm dish then reconnected it; Got screen "acquiring satellites"; then went to menu 6,1,1 and was able to see Sat 72 on menu. Did search from east to west to acquire and peak signal. I was a happy camper at that point and didn't try to replicate the problem, but will pay more attention to it when setting up in MD tomorrow.
  13. Yes, if you stay in MD 183 days or longer in a calendar year you are considered a statutory resident.
  14. Check out Maryland Form 505 for Non Resident Income Tax. ...short answer: it depends on how much of your taxable income was earned in MD and how much time you spent in the state. With generous exemptions, filing jointly, etc., you might owe nothing. Income in excess of your exemptions would would be taxed from 2% to 4.75% of the excess income for typical wage earners (high-rollers pay more!). Oh, and if you stay too long in state MD will tax everything!

    Grease gun

X2. I use this coupler with pistol grip grease gun so I can pump it single-handed.
  16. Some have mentioned the Norcold Solution as being perhaps all that is necessary for over temperature protection. My experience is that the design flaw of the module is such that it is very likely that water intrusion to the module will activate it . Be prepared to address the outcome: http://nuwaowners.org/forum/index.php/topic,19563.msg309817.html#msg309817 You could jumper the Norcold module in an emergency, leaving your rig with no over temperature protection, or install the ARP control for that additional measure of protection.
  17. I X2 We have the XPS Ribs for 3 years since our previous BF Goodrich Commercial TAs were recalled. This is an excellent tire with no problems in about 25k+miles service.

    NH to TX trip

An option to consider: at Knoxville take I40 west to Nashville then find the connecting route to the Natchez Trace Parkway which will take you south to Jackson MS then as above. Just a beautiful ride!
  20. That'll work for Texas, but to show how other states handle this differently, in Maryland the licensed person who drove the truck or drove with you to the license examination must present their license to the examiner before you can take the test.
  21. Welcome to MD.... State of confusion! We have lived here 30 years and never have we been more confused about vehicle licensing as we were when we bought our 5th wheel in 2010. Seems like different day (or different person spoken to)...different answer. We got the run-around at every turn but due to the weight of our trailer ( 18,700lbs) and combo weight over 26,000lbs, we ended up with the Class A Non Commercial license. So now for the first time, I see in writing the clarrification for the Class A , Non CDL license: http://www.mva.maryland.gov/drivers/apply/recreational-vehic
  22. When our Norcold safety module faulted in early spring due to rain blowing sideways into the vent, I welcomed the information posted on several websites as to the possibility of resetting the module. It was because of the information posted that I was able to make an informed decision about resetting the magnetic switch on the module after such an event as heavy rains, pressure washing or ever an errant squirt of the hose thru the refrigerator vent. There were discussions available pointing out the poor design of the module in causing moisture deactivating the module, as well as the experien
  23. Mike Sokol has written several articles on RV electrical safety, such as the following: http://www.noshockzone.org/rv-electrical-safety-part-iv--hot-skin/ He now has a book in print called "RV Electrical Safety" available on Amazon.
  24. Bald Eagle State Park in Howard PA is fairly close to State College(20 min). It is well laid out with spacious sites, great hiking trails lots of roads for biking, and is a short hike or ride to a lake with boating, & beach area. Similar in design layout to many COE campgrounds. Two loops, one is non-pet. Mostly W&E sites, but are expanding FHU site availability. Easy to get to fm I80.
