  1. I agree with Jaydrvr. I got the M/HDT because of wife and $$$. It has the same axle weight rating as a HDT, but the engine of a Ford Pinto. lol. The main factor for me is STOPPING. I use 75% of my brake capacity to stop i.e. 75% of my axle weight. I have seen HDT's that are over weight. I said in earlier post I am not a fan of short wheel based HDT. The shorter WB is not as forgiving in emergency situations. (slick roads). RVers do not travel on Icey roads. This is my experience, right or wrong, no big deal.
  2. From what you are saying, my vote would be a Spacecraft semi and HDT. I have a MDT and it's short on power. With a HDT you have no power problems. With a HDT you can carry a small car on the back. I am not a fan of short wheelbase HDT. I see many HDT that or over legal weight. Get the three axle to prevent that. PM me for more information.

    Brakes Frozen

I had the pin freeze. The one that connects the push rod to the slack adjuster.
  4. After having both, two and three axles I will choose three. 1) lighter weight rating to get the same GVRW. Lighter spring = less shock. 5 tires holding trailer when one hits a unlevelled part of the road. 2) how much time and distance do you use backing into a space? The scrubbing of three axles is so minimal. Look at semi's. many of then have 10 feet between the trailer axles. I have heard many good things about MorRide I/S. I just picked Dexter. It is your choice. This is a good thread.
  5. I have Dexter torsion. 3 x 6000 The three makes for a softer ride while caring the same weight. DO NOT get replaceable spindles. I have replaced the rear twice and the front once in 2.5 years. I went back with nonreplicable spindle.
  6. Just stopped in to say we are alive. Freddy and Delcie, The two of you get well.
  7. It has been so long you may not remember us. We have limited WIFI time, so not posting. We are in Ohio. Monday I leave for Culbertson, MT. to work the Sugar Beet Harvest. Diane will stay here with her daughter. She will be having surgery on October 5 for her eyes. Some of you know I am an instructor for RV Driving school and that is keeping me busy. I am at most of the Boot Camp gathering. Talking about the football game. I ask if they make homeruns in that game.
  8. Thank you Big5er I hope people take notice of this post. I say that 5 to 7 seconds is a safe following distance. The CDL book says one second for every ten feet of vehicle length, plus one second over 45 MPH. About the same. If there is so much traffic that you can not maintain at least half of that distance, Why are you there? There is other, less traveled roads going to the same place. Their is laws about tailgating. Unenforced laws do not help. We need to be self policing. By driving at 60 to 63 MPH most traffic passes me and goes away. No need to tailgate.
  9. I have a Class "A" CDL so I never need work. The wife and I just finished the Sugar Beet Harvest in MT. You bring home about $1,000 each per week. It last three or four weeks. There is many different harvest job. I found a wheat harvest job that worked from May to Nov. I found that Wal-Mart will hire you. If you stay 6 mo. you can move to another store. There is nation wide services like Manpower, Kelly girl, and Molly maid that do day labor. I think you can transfer from one town to another. Find a state you like, go to Flagger school and get a job working for road construction. Go to the local café about 6 AM and tell the server you are looking for work. When the local contractors come in she will check to see who need help that day. This is cash $$. If you want more details or more listing, PM me. I have changed job every three years all my working life. I have lived in five states and have never been out of work.
  10. Soos I do not know where you are in MO., but US-50 is a great road across Kansas so you can miss most of OK. I have tried two roads through OK that way and they are both bad bad bad. I go US-50 to Dodge City and turn south to Amarillo. We stay at Lakewood, NM so we go to Canyon, TX. then turn right to cut across to NM. We go US-60 to Roswell and see the aliens. Then US-285 to Carlsbad. Not telling you how to go, just telling of good roads.
  11. Wanderin We will be going I-40 East to US-64 to the banks. We will be there for a week. I have some lessons there. This RV Driving school gets me to new and exciting places.
  12. We are in Sevierville, TN for another week and then to Wave, NC outer banks. We are enjoying our new trailer.
  13. I am joining the short movers, we have 200 miles tomorrow. and 75 the next day. That is a long trip with a new trailer. I checked the air pressure and lug nuts yesterday. I took the one millionth look around today. Planning on leaving early about 8 am. There is only one other camper in the park, so not worried about waking a bunch of people. safe travels
  14. We started the move around 1:30 and finished about 5:00. The company president came out to help. She passed stuff from one trailer to the other to save going up and down the steps. We put stuff a way until around 10:00. Di got up at 3:00 to start again.
  15. Here it moving day. Out of the Jayco into the Space Craft. We have been in the Jayco for 6 years. It is a bitter/ sweet move. It is old and glad to get ride of the problems. New home is exciting, because it is new and it is the floor plan we wanted and not a factory design. I am not smart enough to post pictures. It has a front kitchen and bed room in the back. We are excited to show it off so hope to see you soon!
  16. Thank you Stanley and Doug. I will show this to Di and soon there should be photos.
  17. Hi Gang I hope some of you remember us. Just haven't been posting much. I wanted to let you know our new Space Craft 5er should be ready for delivery in two weeks. We are going regularly to see the progress. It is nice to talk things over with the people that are doing the hands-on build. We have been waiting for 11 months to get to this point. If someone can explain how to do it, we will post build pictures. Safe travels
  18. Hi gang We are in Toledo, Ohio for the summer if the heat doesn't kill us. if you are in the area give us a call. Glyn
  19. Anybody going to Escapade besides us? Be good to meet others. Tom and Diane: glad you are getting the snow. It was 89 yesterday here in Shipshewana, In. We are having short rain showers this morning.
  20. Thanks for the weather update Steve. We just hope the bank still has $$ for us as promised when we get there but we will ask for you some as well, what the heck, the most they can do is say no. We hope to sneek in behind this storm. My niece moved from Little Rock to Paris, TX a couple of years ago but she has a friend that just lost her husband and two of her children in this storm. Her son is near Viloia, AR but is safe as his friends lost everything there. Glad you are all safe. Hugs Diane and Glyn
  21. Glad to hear that it missed you. We are still blowing around today but 70's instead of 90's like last week. You have safe travels and enjoy those blue bonnets down there. All we've seen here are grass burrs and dust. Hugs Diane and Glyn
  22. Steve and Carol, Glyn and I are headed for OKC from Amarillo on Monday evening. We plan to sleep in the parking lot for the credit union downtown when we arrive as we have some papers to sign and of course the guy said he does not get in until 9:30. If I did not want a new house on wheels so bad we would skip this stop because of the crazy spring weather. We are in a time crunch to get to KC, MO so no time to check out that ice cream machine this trip. We will toot our horn and wave when we go through so listen good. We saw Paducah was getting some storms so we hope Freddy and Delcie won't blow away tonight and then that wind is headed your way. We are getting the dry, sandy, dusty stuff here and on Sunday even more wind. I had Glyn park the truck on the windy side to keep the rockin and rollin to a minimum. Hope everyone stays safe and if you are going to the Escapade in Goshen, IN look us up. Diane & Glyn
  23. Cheryl Look for us in Sidney, MT. We have got the call saying we were hired for the beet harvest. It will be our first. In my past life I drove dump truck for the beet harvest one year. (1980) It was from Cloves, NM to Herford, TX. We are looking forward to the harvest and now to meeting the two of you. Glyn
