IYQ, stay put a day or two. They are predicting really high wind from the WSW starting in the morning. AND there is a large grass fire burning on the east side of the river between KIVA and me. Looks like I might be up all night. It's about 6 miles from here right now and if it gets much closer I may have to move in a hurry.

update: Just watched the news. They say 1000 acres burned and they are trying to gain control with back fires. I don't understand that because the wind is from the SW and they are setting these back fires on the east side. But if it works.....I'm all for it. Highway60 is closed east of I-25. My understanding is the fire is burning north of 60 but maybe they have it closed to give the fire units a staging area.

Well, the news this morning isn't any better. The fire is still out of control. But for me personally, it's not a threat. It is still about 6 miles west of me and burning north and south near the river. I'm planning to stay parked right beside the container and ride out the afternoon winds.

YE OL' 4PM UPDATE

Still seeing hazy gray smoke from down near the river. It would appear that they have knocked it down. My "Casita" has held up very well as an imported wind break. The trailer still has some movement with these winds but has been in no danger. Millie does look funny with her hair wrapped around her ears.

I'll go down where the fire was in the next couple of days and take a look to see what happened. But right now, I doubt they need another lookie lou.

There's a news crawler on the TV saying that they have a large fire burning in RUIDOSO and

are evacuating folks from the casino, the race track, and some neighborhoods. That's bad news as most of the fire crews have been in our area.

After reading Dave's post I guess I haven't anything to complain about but I'm going to complain anyway. This morning I was sitting inside drinking coffee. The wind was blowing but not bat at all. All of a sudden a blast of wind hit the trailer, pushed the slide out in at the top about a foot then let it slam back out against the stops. My two folding chairs went flying across the room and bottles I had setting on the sink blew over. A cloud of grit and dust went through the place leaving so much grit behind that all I have to do to file my finger nails is blow on them. Outside my blue folding chair took off across the field and my new little table tipped over. I had 3 pieces of Cottonwood bark laying on the table it ended up about 30 ft away on the other side of the trailer. I had two pieces I had been carving on and they ended up under the trailer back beyond the axels. The wind stayed strong with really strong gust unlil about 5:30 PM I took a walk about 6:30 and a lot of tiny branches from the cottonwood trees were laying all over the place. The wind is still blowing but it has slacked off a bunch. Man If I'd have gone up to see Dave today, I wouldn't have had to burn any gas at all. I'd just have to have a big ancor to stop myself when I got there.

Dave: I'm going to stay down here for at least another week. Maybe more.

I'm thinking it was a tad windy. With fire and smoke in one direction and wind in the other, I guess this heat wave over here isn't so bad. We still don't like it though and get to complain too.

Well if you're all going to complain, count me in. The rain on the roof is so loud we have to turn up the tv. Our rig is doing amazingly well though considering it is not winterized. No leaks and we are warm and dry. Poor Parker has hurt his leg (wrist I guess you would call it) and has to hobble around on three legs. He is not a happy camper at all. If he doesn't improve in the next day or two, we will have to visit the vet.

And Doug and I have wanderlust so bad. We have another 17 days here and then, even if it's just up to Salmon Arm for a while, we will be happy to change scenery.

Carol - when are you guys leaving Florida. Have you had any of this nasty weather I keep seeing on the news?

Sandi, so far we hav not had too much bad weather. There was a major rain storm at Bushnell, but just a day. We are now in Carrabelle, FL, riight on the Gulf east of Pananma City. They are calling for "strong" thunderstorms tomorrow with high wind and then a cold front and back to sunny days. We should be okay. We leave Sunday and will be at the Tyndall Military CG. We will stay along the coast for awhile. From there I am not sure because I don't like being in Tornado Alley this year and that is the direction we need to go to get to Kansas City from the south.

We may be in touch later also because we really would like to find a RV park in your area around Billings or Helena after our factory visit in July and stay for a month if we find a good rate. Can you suggest a few to try? Will you be in the area long about Aug or Sept? Sure would be great to catch up again.

Hey Ya'all! Yep...we're in Texas! San Antonio suburb of Elmendorf at the Braunig Lake Resort. We will be here for at least a week. We did a really long day yesterday and traveled much farther than we ever do. 451 miles. I wes determined to outrun that wind....! It must have worked quite well, because there was still no wind this morning and we took a walk around the little lake here and visited the office. Then about 10:30 we had the big gust that IYQ sent this way! It's here to stay for the day and we will not be doing any tours or outdoor activities today at all....the grit in your teeth would get too bad I'm sure. We are thankfully tucked in between some rigs and protected quite well. I just remembered I need to move my map pin again! Welcome to the Tour Season! I think this area is going to be fun. I know, most of you guys have probably already seen this part of Texas, maybe many times! I'm a green horn and this is my first real trip to Texas! Everybody stay safe out there and I hope this wind goes away soon!

As Always,

The trailer rocked and rolled all last night so bad that at 4:30 this morning I gave up and just got up and dressed and drank coffee the rest of the night. Then this morning after it got light the wind stopped and the temperature stayed in the mid 70's and we had a beautiful day. I took a nice long walk this afternoon and a little Steve-esta to catch up from last night. I drove down the road about 5 miles to get a tank of LP and yaked with the park host most of the day. I sure wise we would get more days like this. I might never leave.

I can't win for loosing. Last night about 2:30 AM my phone rang. It stopped before I could answer it. It was a restricted number so I have no Idea who it was. It got me wide awake again so I spent the rest of the night drinking coffee and holding my head again. today was a nice day but we are expecting to get hit by another wind storm tomorrow and for that matter the rest of the week. Uuugggghhh

We are parked at the Tropicana Express in Laughlin and I had n IYQ night. The garbage trucks came through at 4:20 this morning. However, I refused to get up so I laid in bed and whined to myself for a couple of hours. On to Las Vegas today.

We have a wake up "bark" every morning here. Our neighbors little dog is put in his outside pen every morning before 6:30. He barks constantly as people walk by .. constantly. Of course, the barking isn't just limited to the morning. It's an all day event. Even Terry gets up early here. Have fun at Death Valley!

Yes, the wind seems to be all over the place. I just saw a dog blow by the window, I think :o Looks like we won't close on the house Friday. Seems the appraiser didn't get her report in on time. Waiting to see what the new date will be. We found a RV park in Seminole, OK that is near where Carol likes to play tennis, so we are going to check it out today. They had a monthly rate of $335 w FHU's so that sounded pretty good. Now if you just don't need a weapon to be able to live there. We have to go by the old house today to see how the roofers are doing. They found 4 layers on the old part of the house, so the insurance company is going to kick in a little more for the tear-off on that part. They are supposed to finish tomorrow, but they sure are having to fight the wind. At least with the closing not being on Friday it gives them a little more time to get-er-done! I went into the casino to "pay my rent" and turned my $20 payment into $50, so that was good! Have a nice windy day. Steve

A wake up bark would be welcome around here. Millie is tall enough that she can reach across the bed and stick her tongue in my ear when she decides it's time to get up.

Dave just rolls over and say not now I have a headache.

This morning started out pretty nice I got in a 2 mile walk. Then the breeze started picking up and just kept getting stroger all day long. By this evening I was seeing Seves dog flying past my window too. The sun is going down now and the wind seems to be slacking off. Lets hope it dies completel. I'll gladly attend it's funeral. I did get some sleep last night so thats a plus. And tonight I'm going to turn my phone off completely. I've only got 4 more days here then I can start complaining about somewhere else.

I think we are really in for the wind now. We're in Las Vegas and they have a high wind warning for tomorrow. Winds of 35 mph with gusts up to 60 mph. Guess the slides will be coming in. Sure glad we're not on the road anywhere. We did have some wind getting here today and Jim said he sure was grateful for the Safety Plus steering stabilizer.

we stayed put the other day when the wind warning was active in Oklahoma. Right now we are in Chanute, KS (wanna guess why?) headed to Indiana by way of Lake of the Ozarks.

At least the weather has been pretty good for the last two days. Sunny (windy) but warm enough to sit outside.

My guess involves the railroad round house.....

We are supposed to get more of that wind for the next 4 days. But today was calm and the crew installed the septic system. I've hired many contractors over the years and never have seen a more professional crew. So now I've placed the "casita", the propane is in, the septic is done, and my 500 gal water tank is on the property. I found an Extreme sureflow 5.7 gal pump on sale at PPL(saved over $100), and all I have left is to sanitize the tank, plumb it in and find a washer and dryer. Things have gone very well on the Llano.

MY GOODNESS!!!!!!!! OUT OF THE HAZE AND BLOWING DUST.........A LITTLE BROWN TRUCK!!!!!!!

It never crossed my mind that the order from PPL, shipped through UPS, would actually make it out here. It's 30 miles from the nearest mail office that handles UPS. I thought for sure they would drop it off in Belen. I even told them I'd come into town to get it. But here my pump is. I have just become the biggest fan of UPS that they have.

I wish I'd known about that pump. When I was having the trouble with air in my lines I bought a large on demand pump. It proved not to be the pump and the big pump was a little too much for my system so I put the old one back in. I'd have given you the big one if I'd known you needed it.

Today was a little windy but not bad. We had two or three gust that made things shake rattle and roll but for the most part it was just a little to windy to be comfortable sitting outside but plenty calm enough to take my walk. In fact I took two of them. I haven't done a blame thing else except talk on the Telephone to a gal that's coming here Saturday from City of Rocks. Oh Yeah I tinkered with a few things that really didn't need tinkering with in the fist place.
