Classes of 2008 and 2009

Just about to cross into Utah. So rainy and cold. We left Butte before 7:00 am cause it was so cold the memory foam on our bed was stiff!

We have made some  new SKP: friends. Terry and Edie from Alberta. They are leap frogging with us and may be following us to Overton, NV. They should be the Class of 2008 and we have invited them to Pilot Knob and Quartzsite. Really nice people. Have never done any SKP things before although they have been to Rovers' Roost.

Cold and rainy yes but nothing can dampen our euphoria. We are on the road again.

Made it all the way to Perry, Utah (oh yeah, move our peg). Horrible, horrible storms all the way down. Leaving early in the morning to do Salt Lake City while Doug is fresh. Going to make it to the Wal-Mart in Mesquite tomorrow. Going to do laundry, dump and fill before heading to Overton.

The weather in Overton is amazing. Can't wait.

Moved from Dover Delaware to Alexandria Virginia today. Hardest part of the whole thing was getting out of my friends yard this morning. We had planned to drive out between his house and his neighbors garage, but because of an underground pipe that i could possible crush, we couldn't do it. We had to back out and down the same alley we came in on, so that took awhile. Leaving Delaware the drive was great. It was 70 degrees, sunny skies and not much traffic. We came over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge into Annapolis MD and that is a pretty site, with all the marina's and boat traffic under the very long bridge. At least the toll on the bridge was going East so we didn't get to pay any. Ha Ha. We are parked at the Elks club at Alexandria, VA for about 5 days to explore DC a little. They have a couple of 20A spaces here, and there is only one other RV here so we are looking good.

Jim, I hope they get your leg fixed up ok, if not we'll carry you to the boat!!

Toni, sorry you had to drive in all the storms, this side of the country has been pretty calm so far.

I can't say this trip south has been fun. It hasn't. First we had a blowout in Oregon, a theft in Oregon, burned out instrument lights, dead inverter and a second blowout on the motorhome. Then, we just about had a heart attack when we got pulled over by two cop cars speeding behind us and flashing their lights at us. Who said this is fun?

The good thing is that the rain forecasted to drench the area was intermittent and we didn't have too much of it. We did get to move a little. We would have changed our destination had we not already ordered a new inverter for delivery down the road. Thank goodness for the Elks. They certainly have great places to stay. Without an inverter there is no stopping at Walmart!

Dang Guys, sounds like your having your share of whatever this year. Hope things turn for the better soon.

Toni, enough about the weather. Next thing you'll be saying is how great the SUN is and how nice and WARM it is. Don't need to hear about it. :P

Looks like I'll get to move my pin a bit south later this week. Well for a few days anyway. Looks like the neighbors and I are heading to Pacific Beach for 4 or 5 days. Going to take in the Irish Music Festival in Ocean Shores, WA.

Boy, Jeri, sounds like your turn.. We lost our inverter this year too, in Kansas City and had one shipped ahead of us to Milwaukee and installed it there. It also ruined our house batteries and we had to replace them there too. Oh yeah, the slide motor on one of our bedroom slides bit the dust too, $$$$$$ Time for all this repair stuff to level off. Alright everybody - that's enough of the RV problems and repairs going on out there. This has really been a tough year for several of you.

Hey Joe - the weather is about perfect down here. In the 80's, lots and beautiful sunshine. Nights in the 60's just perfect for sleeping with the windows open.

So blow some of it this way. The wind is blowing like crazy. Woke up (well really didn't sleep much with all the rockin and rollin) to snow on all the surrounding hills. But we have to go cause it's only going to get worse. Slow and easy.

Our new friends, Terry and Edie, are here too so we will go together. Trying for Mesquite today for an overnight at Eureka Casino with them. Then we will have a leisurely drive to Overton tomorrow.

Send good thoughts our way.

Done, done, done! Wind, rain, snow and tons of traffic but we are through Ogden, Salt Lake City, and Provo. On to sunny climes.

Where will those friends be? Are they the ones from Oosyoos? Put answers on Facebook please.

Thanks for the well wishes.

OH OH - guess I am overdue - so here goes: the high and low points of our last few months:

Spring - Summer saw us move from Florida to Omaha -to Colorado -(New injectors for the truck) to Montana - to South Dakota (replaced the inverter, seems to be the year for our class to replace them! )- back to Omaha (repairs on the truck quarter panel - darn post in the campground). Best part was lots of motor scooter rides and visits with family and friends along the way.

Fall - has been great - Kansas tall grass, Oklahoma suicide deer ( only about $5500 in damage to the 5ver but nothing that can not wait until later to fix) now in Texas Hill country for some great riding.

Highlight for Fall was seeing MJ (Mary Jane Finlay) in Dallas - she is doing well and has bought a small trailer for travel - calls it her condo - the 5th wheel she and Lee had is now set up in a nice park near her kids. She calls the 5 wheel her town house. Our group now has many solo travelers. Working on getting her to head to Arizona for part of the winter.

Winter Plans: they are a challenge but here goes - next week to Big Bend Texas for the chili cook off - then New Mexico and Arizona for the winter.

Look forward to seeing classmates this winter.

Every time I try to post I loose the Verizon signal. I'm typing this now and will copy and paste it into MS WORD so I can get a signal the hurry and paste it back into the Fast Reply window and hit the send button before in drops the signal again. Last night I finally just gave up and let what I had written go off into the ether. It looks like my 4G WIFI isn't going to be very good for the SLABS this year. I'm lucky to get a 1X signal let alone a 4G job. Other that that things are going well here at the SLABS.

We are here in Mesquite. Long drive 393 miles straight into the wind. We outran the weather and it's sunny and warm here. Loaded up with groceries and will continue to Overton in the morning.

We had to open all the windows to let the cold air out

We did a bicycle tour of the capital area yesterday. Beautiful 70 degree fall day with the trees in DC really showing a lot of color. We found a parking space right on Constitution ave, and then took the bikes for a ride. Sure is a great way to see everything, as it's all spread out, and walking that much would be hazardous to our health. There is a nice bike trail right along the Patomic river too, so we'll have to try that out tomorrow. Carol had never been here before, so she really enjoyed it and took lots of pictures. You can't go in the Washington monument now because of the earthquake they had, but I don't think I could walk up all those steps anyway. The Elks club parking is a little steep, so I couldn't get the bus all the way level. Now we are feeling like a couple of sailors trying out there "sea legs" for the first time. The front wheels are off the ground, so that's all I can do. We've got 4G speed out of our verizon jetpack mifi, so we are good for a few days. I think we are going to head south on Saturday.

Mike & Julie, good to see you found your computer and posted a little!! Darn those deer anyway, never could trust an Oklahoma deer to stay where he belonged. :o Nice to hear that MJ is doing well and figured out a way to travel.

Got to run, or bike or something. Later Steve

We are here. Short drive to Overton, Nevada. Couldn't be better. Got a site in the regular area (there are only 8 with tables, BBQ's and shelters. Obviously our aircard is working, there are 26 channels of tv, hot and sunny. And the very best news, the laundromat in town has re-opened.

So we will be here about three weeks or a month. Anyone in the area, come on over to Overton.

I worked most of the morning putting up our Sun Screen roof over the dinning area on the SLAB. This evening two of the gals thought they were going to abduct me and cart me off to lunch but I was just eating the last two bites of my lunch when the knocked on my door. I'll take a rain check on that one. This afternoon I installed a hasp on the door of the Kitchen trailer for the president. She's been asking me to do that for about a week now but I always seem to be doing another project and can't get at it. It's done now. Now it's time to take a Steve.

Unfortunately if the tower in the area isn't 4G you won't have 4G either. It goes back to 3 and some places won't get 4G this year. We are getting 4G an hour from here this week....but we probably won't get it this year at all. Bigger places are getting it first. I doubt if Yuma will even get 4G this year. It really does make a big difference when you have the signal to begin with.

Deming, NM got 4G this year while I was there. I sure do like it, I'm hooked on it. Here at the slabs I feel lucky when I manage to get 3G about half the time all I get is 1x. What make me angry is my device will say it's getting 3G and maybe 3 bars on the signal but when I connect it will give me local traffic only no internet. Heck I don't want to talk to my MYFI I want to talk to you folks out there on the internet. Oh Well if I didn't have that to gripe about I'd get bored and have to find something else to gripe about.

Sounds to me like you need a closer tower! 4G really is nice. I'm a spoiled brat.... won't stay anywhere without service anymore. I used to not have good service here, but at least it's 3G now...we got a closer tower. I'd call Verizon and ask when they're getting a new tower or 4 G. At least you'd know then. :}

With that huge storm getting ready to hit the East Coast, I had to check the map to see who might be close. Steve, you're it! Be careful out there. It could get nasty!

IYQ -- A while back you indicated you put a capful (?) of a septic cleaner in your tank. I wanted to remember what you used but I've had a brain hiccup. Can you post that again? It's not that we have a problem yet but we'd like to prevent one.

Weather is beautiful on the California coast. The Elks is about a block and a half from the ocean. What a great location! Of course, it's absolutely packed but we kind of expected that too. We're just hanging here until the Santa Ana winds clear out ahead of us. Then, we'll continue on our way. We're thinking we may stop in Palm Springs area for a couple days, then to Quartzsite for a couple more days and on to the Phoenix area. That's what we're thinking at least. :)

We are leaving Virginia Beach today due to the storm. We are at the military CG on the water and looks like they are going to post a mandatory evecuation from the base in the morning. We planned on leaving anyway. Don't need all that salt and sand in every crevice! Been thu that once in Utah. We will probably wind up in Charlotte, NC, and return when we are called to return. Those on the road with us, be safe!

Steve and Carol - sure hope you guys move inland and south. Sandy (hate that name) sure looks like one mean storm.

Carol and Doug - glad you're moving inland. We need everybody safe out there.

Paul and Marsha - 12" of snow????? Get out of there now! Does that mean you found a truck?

We're having gorgeous sunny, not hot, weather here. Just about perfect.

That's the delay. Truck won't be ready (hitch, etc) until the end of next week. Around the 2nd or 3rd of Nov. Luckily, the weather people seem to be changing the snow prediction and are now calling for only rain....LOTS OF RAIN...but that beats the heck out of snow!
