AndyR
I got the truck home this weekend with no issues at all. We’ll make a few changes to make it ours and probable more than a few. Before I start my ‘want to do” list, I have a few things on the “need to do” list. I get a vibration I can feel in the wheel starting at around 60mph. I think it’s a balance issue and since the tires are badly weathered, I’ll be doing tires first. Once the new ties are on, I’ll run it over and get it aligned and have the front end looked at to see if anything stands out. It has Michelin XZA3 on the front and the drives are XDN2’s. I’m leaning toward the Goodyear G182RSD on the drives and the Endurance RSA on the steers. I know balancing is a huge issue so I’m thinking of going with beads. Not sure on that either. I have centramatic rings on my F450 and noticed a small improvement but maybe not worth the addition cash. Any help would be awesome. Alie&Jim's Carrilite
I have Centramatics on our truck. The did make a difference to us. We have had Hercules brand on the back for 5 years and will age them out before the tread wears out. The front we ran Toyo's for awhile with a good wear pattern until an camber issue cut the inner passenger side- outer driver side of them. We had the alignment fixed and currently have Firestone tire on the front. Both brands have been smooth and performed well in all weather- ... snow- torrential rain- ice- dirt and gravel roads. jenandjon
Michelin is over rater and over priced. I run BF Goodrich steer tires on my work truck. I really like them. They hold up well even on all the gravel roads and off road terrain I drive on. rickeieio
Tires are like oil. Pick a brand, and you'll find those who love it and those who avoid it. For instance, many folks won't even consider a Chinese branded tire. I have a set on my work truck, and so far am happy with them. But, they are the high end of the Chinese brands (Sailun). Find an independent tire shop near you and see what they recommend. Build a relationship and it will pay dividends in the future. Initial sale price isn't as important as service after the sale. dlcarsonak
I use Bridgestone tires. The only blowout I ever had was a Toyo. It was the right front tire at about 75mph. I didn't have power steering. No Toyo for me. I tryed beads to balance, but they don't work. I found out that they make lug nuts with a shoulder on them. The shoulder goes between the wheel and the bolt. This centers the wheel. It stopped my vibration. I have two on each front wheel. Opposite from each other. There is two sizes of nuts, one for single and one for duel wheel. The duel nut will also center the brake drum on the front. Av8r3400
I put Firestones on my HDT on the recommendation of a local big truck operator that I trust. They were good price and well supported. For the amount of miles I will put on the truck, high dollar name brand tires (Michelin) make no sense to me at all. I also followed his recommendation when I converted to 17.5 tires on our trailer. Ours are Chinese imports, but again, I'm not putting 100's of thousands of commercial miles on them. For the cost, I'm willing to take the quality I have.
