Installing a slideout room in an older coach

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I recently acquired a very nice low mileage 2000 diesel pusher (45'er) with a single front room (kitchen) slide out room. I am interested in having a second slide out room (dining booth and sofa) installed in the opposing wall of the front room to create additional living space. I am looking for suggestions of a company who could do this .... hoping to hear from anyone who has had something like this done. I am in Arizona but have no problem traveling to a competent shop.

Thanks for any feedback.

That is a very interesting idea! I am not aware of anyone who has done this, but it may be that it has been. I hope that you will come back and update us about what you find and your progress in accomplishing it.

If I do follow thru with the project I will be more than happy to share my experience.

Phil, you DO realize that you will be spending quite a bit of money that won't be returned to you when you sell? You will probably be money ahead to simply trade rigs.

That said, was there a two-slide version of your rig? If so, the engineering has already been done. If not, you may well have to do it all yourself. You may need to do all of that in order to register the vehicle after the surgery, as you have made material changes to the structure.

Hi kb0zke.... yes sir, I know it would not be a money making investment and a hugh task.... but the coach has everything else we like (45' length, 102" wide, low mileage Cummins M11 500HP, in good shape and CHEAP to purchase....but the greatest thing, paid in full). There were not any 2 slide models made until 2002 and even then the second slide was in the bedroom and not the front room where we are looking for the space. In the end this is probably not something we will see our way clear of doing....short of trying it myself with the help of a couple talented friends who will not charge me but maybe some cabinet remodeling in the home....  but a guy can dream :)

Thanks for the feedback,
