Where is the best RV park in Southern Texas?

Recommended Posts

I am new to RVing and I am hoping to get a few recommendations. My husband and I want to take our Fifth Wheel to Texas. We live in NC and would love some information. Thanks!

Welcome to the Escapee forums! With the large number of RV parks around the state and the size that Texas is, it is very difficult to give one RV park as the best. If you could tell us more about your planned trip and when you plan to come, we would likely be able to give you much better information. Also, some idea of how long you anticipate staying in Texas will help. Texas is 790 north to south and 660 miles from east to west so there is a lot to see and do here and some very different scenery. East TX is pine-forested hills while west TX is semi-arid and fairly flat. North TX is rolling prairie and cattle country while the southern edge is beaches and the Gulf of Mexico. Do you plan to tour the state of just find a place to kick back and relax?

Best for what? We need to know a lot more about you before we can even begin to think about an answer. Let's start with what do you like to do? Do you want a park with a pool and lots of social activities? Do you want large lots where you don't see as much of your neighbors? Do you want the cheapest you can get? Do you want to be near amenities like shopping and entertainment facilities? Do you want to be near a hospital? Do you want to be near the ocean? Or near Mexico? Telling us as much as you can about yourselves will go a long way towards helping us give you valid answers. Otherwise we'd just be telling you what we like.

Hi Jscott,  Canyon Lake RV Resort,  One of my friends had visited this park and they said they were enjoyed a lot and restaurants are in the walkable distance and the food was very tasty. Just check out the park.

Buckhorn Lake RV Resort in Kerrville is a 10-10-10 rated park and it is very nice in the area. Good Luck. We don't like the Texas summers. We go to the UP of MI for the summers.

Thank you all so much for the suggestions! I have teenage boys and a dog so we need somewhere that is fun and exciting. We love to swim and fish. We would love to hit Texas about July, depending on our schedules. I was checking out some sites for reviews on parks and got some good ideas from this site https://campingmoz.com/best-rv-parks-in-texas/, but I was hoping to hear from some individuals who have actually visited these parks. Buckhorn Lake RV Resort sounds like a winner for us. We may just have to visit a few times to get to all the parks we want to visit. :)

Being in Texas in July will be a hot so my recommendation is the Hill Country. The Hill Country may be defined as north of San Antonio  and west of Austin. I like Kerrville  as it is about an hour from San Antonio, LBJ Ranch (Texas White House), a cave, Pacific War Musuem

If you will arrive in July, Texas will probably be pretty warm and the beach could be a good thing to consider. One of my favorite areas to visit is Corpus Christi, which has a great number of things to do and places to visit as well as a prime beach. The park that we liked there when last visited a few years back was Colonial Del Rey  I suggest that you take a look at Corpus Christi visitor information as you are planning. If you do not care for the beach then another area that offers a great deal in things to and also has several major amusement parks is San Antonio . There are two parks that especially Admiralty RV Park or Blazing Star RV park , both of which we have stayed at and would return to again.

These are two areas that we have visited many times and that we strongly recommend for a visiting family. Texas is a very large state with far too many different things to see and do to be able to see it all in a week or two. While these are favorites of ours, there are many other good places to consider.

As others have written.  Instead of selecting a specific RV Park, decide what you want to do and then look for a RV Park to stay.

The best source that I know of for finding a place to stay is http://www.campgroundreviews.com/

If your trip is 6 to 8 weeks, I would suggest staying at several locations, each for 1 to 2 weeks.

--  Texas Hill country north of Uvalde (link given in my earlier reply)

--  Corpus Christi, actually Port Aransas and Mustang Island

--  San Antonio

If you would enjoy water parks there is a great water park in New Braunfels, Schlitterbahn Water Park.  https://www.schlitterbahn.com/new-braunfels

As with any big water park, Schlitterbahn is not cheap.
