Diesel acceleration issue

Recommended Posts

We have a 2004 Dutch Star with a Cummins engine. We have been experiencing an intermittent loss of acceleration. It has happen on hills and flat terrain. We drove from Pennsylvania to Florida and it happen only twice. Putting on the exhaust brake seems to make the problem stop. We have had it looked at several times by Cummins and other repair facilities. They have found no fault codes.  The fuel has been checked and the filters have been changed but the problem continues. Any suggestion for a solution would be appreciated.

There is a throttle position sensor under the accelerator, when it begins to fail erratic behavior is one symptom. To check the TPS remove it and disconnect the wiring. Test with a ohmmeter, the actual readings are not important-as long as one is detected.  What is important is the readings change smoothly from idle to WOT and the reverse. Complete testing instructions are found on the web.

What ARGO said, and testing the TPS cost nothing, so if both test good, the only thing lost is time and effort.
