how high a voltage for solar and controller

Recommended Posts

I going to install panels as soon as mini split upgrade is done. Been looking at controllers and panels. See Midnight Classics for up to 250 volts. They are around $1k. Classic 150 half that. Going to have 8 or possibly 10 panels. Know 8 will fit, 10 may. At what voltage does it become unnecessary to go higher? I could use a 250 but is it beneficial? VMP of panels looking at is 37.89. Also planning on Magnum Hybrid inverters so is it benefical to use the Magnum controller instead.

I would think solar panel voltage would be based on the battery bank and it's input voltage into an Inverter.  I've been looking at 24 or 48 volt inverters due to there efficiency converting to 110V.  Higher voltage you can even use a little bit smaller wire as the amp draw is less.

The easy solar units are impressive. Sure simplifies a lot of wiring and price is competitive. Can these units Daisy chain to their inverters. I was going to start with 2 4800 Magnums Daisy chain and add third if needed. Will have 17k battery.
