Hopper Check Switch with Nuclear Option

Recommended Posts

Thanks for the write-up, Tom. I'm filing it away in case I break down and upgrade my H2's to H3's. Have you tried doing a sequential power up at a new destination? Power up the Hopper first, and then the DPH42? Just curious if that would have the same effect as the "nuclear option" without needing to run the initial test.

Since the Hopper 3 is always on because of the Inverter, the only time I had an issue with the DPH-42 Switch is changing form the ground tripod with a DPH Hybrid LNBF head to the Trav'ler with the DPH-42 and that was only once.   But the power off for the Hopper and the DPH-42 Switch is a pretty straight procedure.

Ok, I just read a Blog, stating that Winegard has introduce a Kit, to allow the use of a Hopper 3.

The kit P/N  RPSK01H  includes the following items:

Solo Node -  Dish Network Hybrid Solo Hub P/N 203952:
Short cable - 1.5 Ft
LNB - Dish 1000.2 DISHPRO Hybrid (DPH) LNB:

The only item of difference is the Solo Node.
This implies that purchase the Kit, or buy individually, now we all can use a Hopper 3.

There's a big "gotcha" -- the kit only works on Winegard Travlers made in 2018 or later.

A Hopper 3 uses a SOLO Hub, not a SOLO Node,  A node is for Hopper 1 & 2.

After hurting my Trav'ler with extended seeking using just a Hybrid LNBF.  I would only use the DPH-42 Switch and a SOLO Hub for a Hopper 3,
