Jees.. doesn't DISH have signal strength  beeps in their receivers?  What a pain.

The signal tone is hard to hear 150' out from the RV.

DISH satellite dishes are harder to aim than DirecTV dishes. There. I said it.

First off, DISH has two sets (or "arcs") of three satellites that have 19 and 15 degrees of separation (as opposed to 4 degrees for a SWM dish). That separation + skew makes for hairy sat acquisition, despite what the "dish whisperers" claim.

Anyway, using a beep system alone would be problematic as each DISH sat arc should be peaked off of a particular sat (119 or 72.7 to be precise) so you really need to identify the sat you're using.

I have DirecTV and not Dish, but does Dish have a signal meter as part of their receivers that you view on your TV screen?  DirecTV does and I use a wireless baby monitor to see this screen from outside where I am aiming.  Just aim the baby monitor camera at the TV screen and take the monitor outside.   A whole lot cheaper than any meter and works great.  Just a thought.

Wireless Baby Monitor and meter in the DirecTV receiver works for me.

That does sound like a pain.  I was very happy to hear the dtv  beeps again after many years of their absence.  Makes it much easier (unless you happen to be too far away).

Yep. I'd switch if it wasn't for DISH's superior receiver technology.

I just discovered that the Birdog Ultra apparently will also work with the Hopper 3 and hybrid LNBF. I'm still buying a Super Buddy 29. I have found a few used ones at a good price.

Thanks everyone for your input. I have learned a lot.

Just where did you find that the BirDog Ultra works with a Hybrid LNBF?

Nothing on the website, nor the manual indicates that.

I ask cshrader again, where did you discover that a Birdog Ultra meter works with a Hybrid LNBF.  That is a pretty big statement to make.
