RV_
Excerpt: "The Defense Department has identified all seven combat search and rescue airmen killed in the HH-60 Pave Hawk crash on Thursday in western Iraq. Master Sgt. Christopher J. Raguso, 39, a special missions aviation flight engineer; Capt. Andreas B. O'Keeffe, 37, an HH-60G pilot; Capt. Christopher T. Zanetis, 37, an HH-60G pilot; and Staff Sgt Dashan J. Briggs, 30, a special missions aviation flight engineer, belonged to the 106th Rescue Wing, Francis S. Gabreski Air National Guard Base, according to a Saturday news release. The rescue wing is based on Long Island. Master Sgt William R. Posch, 36, of Indialantic, Florida; and Staff Sgt Carl P. Enis, 31, of Tallahassee, Florida, belonged to the 308th Rescue Squadron, Patrick Air Force Base, Florida. The squadron, known as an Air Force 'Guardian Angel' personnel and recovery unit, is part of the Air Force Reserve's 920th Rescue Wing. Also killed was Capt Mark K. Weber, 29, of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Weber was assigned to the 38th Rescue Squadron, Moody Air Force Base, Georgia." Much more in the article here: https://www.military.com/daily-news/2018/03/17/airmen-killed-iraq-helicopter-crash-were-3-rescue-units.html?ESRC=airforce_a_180321.nl Combat search and rescue are very special and considered elite troops. What exactly are Guardian Angels? They undergo training that is at least equal to Navy Seal training. Their motto "That Others May Live," says it all. This loss will ripple through all branches and even retirees. Five Wood
I saw a short article on that last week on the internet. And then there was nothing more. And I find that very sad. RV_
Jim, I agree. Most folks are unaware we have elite units that only fight their way out if needed and could fight alongside seals and other SpecOPs elite units except their motto is "So Others May Live." I just read recently three novels about GA missions written by David L. Robbins from the Kindle store here: https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Ddigital-text&field-keywords=david+L+Robbins I read the USAF Pararescue Thrillers books 1-3 and they were great reads. For those who are unfamiliar with USAF Para rescue Guardian Angels they are an excellent set of gripping true to life thrillers. Book 1 is "The Devil's Waters," Book 2 is "The Empty Quarter, and Book 3 is "The Devil's Horn." If you like Cussler, Clancy, and Dale Brown you'll love these.
