Backing up trailer with HDT

So have been towing with a Chevy 3500 Crew Cab DRW. How does a HDT back vs the one ton, with the change in position of the hitch ? I have noticed most of the hitches are farther to the rear, mine of course is right over the axle. We are looking at moving up to an HDT, and just curious as to others experiences.

With the hitch further back, the RV reacts faster to steering wheel input.  If the HDT you are considering has a 50-degree wheel cut or better, then it backs much easier than your pick up.  We moved from a Dodge dually to the Volvo HDT.  I have backed into sites with the big truck in a single attempt that took 2-3 pull ups in the Dodge just due to not being able to turn tight enough.

Hi Chris,
Welcome to the forum. I haul our RV with our Volvo and a GMC 1-ton dually. The Volvo with the hitch location towards the back of the truck backs up and tracks much like a bumper pull trailer. It reacts faster and tracks better than hauling with the dually in my case. Getting in and out of places is very similar except the Volvo and RV is 10ft longer overall vs the dually and RV.

The longer length is something to consider. I have had to have a truck or car moved to have turning room. Yes the camper cuts fast compared to a dually. Helps a lot.

I can move my trailer of 3imches if I want and park it on a dime. If it is dark when I arrive, I have round trouble lights that I put down the drivers side and just follow them as I back and it is right wher I want it.

I concur with the above.  When I switched to my HDT from my dually, my rig’s overall length increased by 8 feet (truck and trailer).  I was a little worried because we go to some places that have tight access to our favorite spots.  I was able to get the trailer into these spots much easier with the HDT than I could with the dually (back in sites).  What would take two or three tries with the dually could be done on the first try with the HDT.
