We will be purchasing a Tiffin 2018 Phaeton (40 ft.) this year and riding off into the sunset! When we come back to the Philadelphia area to visit family, we’d like to find someone or someplace that we can stay on the property in our motorhome while visiting. Of course we’d be willing to pay, especially if we can connect to electricity (water and dump is not necessary). I don’t think there are many overnight campgrounds in the Philadelphia area. Is it possible to find someone with a bit of land who would let us park for a bit? Are there township restrictions? What do others do in a similar situation? Would love to hear from others about this. Thanks.

Where in the Philadelphia area? There is a campground in Clarksboro, NJ that is one of the closer ones to center city. There are campgrounds in the Salem/Woodstown, NJ area. There are a number of campgrounds North of the City in the Hatfield - Green Lane area. Lums Pond State Park in Delaware may be an option for the Southern Suburbs. There are some campgrounds in the West Chester - Coatesville area.

Have you considered any of these?  You might have to drive 25 mi. or so depending where your family lives. Sorry, don't know of any boondocking there.  Perhaps you can find a nicer place 100 mi or so and have the family come visit you on the weekend.  Good luck!

Thanks for the great tip, 2gypsies. Very helpful.

Thanks for the info.  We are northwest of the city, near Norristown, Pa.

Thanks for the info. Some of the campgrounds close by November and we may need to come after that. Ultimately, we’d love to find a private home that would be willing to host us...near Norristown.

Many municipalities prohibit parking RVs in housing developments let alone occupying them. Zoning regulations for single residency often prevent occupying an RV even though it can be parked on the property. Enforcement of such regulations is often lax until someone complains. More rural areas where the homes can not see their neighbors are more likely to have fewer regulations and less chance of a neighbor complaining.   You might try looking into Boondockers Welcome and Free Campsites.

Unless we know that there are no regulations prohibiting driveway docking, we find a campground/RV park. You do realize that unless your host has installed at least a 30 amp RV outlet that you will be very limited in what appliances you can run at one time? Your host or any nearby neighbors may not want to listen to your generator running.

Its not Boondocking, but we stayed at a car parking lot minutes from downtown.  It was a paved parking lot and you backed up to a building that had water and electric for each spot.  No dump.  And the community dump didn't look usable without a very long hose.    I just looked it up.  Name was the Campus Park & Ride.  I think it was $50 a night.  We stayed a few days.  JFYI>

If your intent is to visit the historic area of Philadelphia, then Campus Park & Ride might be a good choice. If you plan on visiting your family in Norristown, I-76 is a very, very busy and often congested highway from the city to Valley Forge/King of Prussia. Backups lasting an hour or more are common. I would look for some place North of Philadelphia like Hatfield which has at least one park that says it is open all year.

Thanks. Too bad there aren’t many RV options in an area that is so historic and attracts many tourists. Looks like a great opportunity for someone with the right entrepreneurial spirit. 🤑
