You are correct, DirecTV Now is the streaming analog to DirecTV.  From what I can tell it appears to be significantly less expensive since even if you pay $50-60 for a monthly package you're not paying for the other "device" charges that DirecTV imposes such as the HD fee, the DVR fee, maintenance fees, etc.

From my perspective, if and when DirecTV Now finally offers a cloud-DVR function I would suspend my DirecTV service for 6 months a year and only use it during the summer while we were traveling.  During the winter I have a WISP with a good enough internet connection that I could switch to DirecTV Now and stream all my TV.

I saw that verbage regarding only seeing local stations when you are in your home zip code.  That pretty well kills it for me, as a full timer.

AFAIK, there is no DNS service so you pretty well don't have networks when traveling outside your zip code area.

Finally, there is no DVR function yet that I can see.  And if you play older versions of a show, I have not seen any way to skip commercials.

So I think DirecTVNow is a good start but needs a lot of work to be usable for RVers that travel
