RV_
I always found that to subordinates at any level in the USAF the higher you go the nicer they are. Of course a few will prove that wrong, but I've found it to be the "norm." However this is a bit above and beyond, even for an Air Force Chief. Excerpt: "LAUNCH CONTROL CENTER CHARLIE, Montana — About 60 miles southeast of Great Falls, just off a two-lane highway, Sr. Airman Malcom Soto-Gonzalez keeps watch over this small building tucked behind a hill on the treeless countryside. Armed with an M4 carbine, Soto-Gonzalez and other “Defenders” in his Air Force security-forces squadron guard nuclear-tipped intercontinental ballistic missiles in their underground silos, along with the airmen who — if given the order — would enter codes and turn switches to launch them. On Friday evening, just before dinner, Gen. David Goldfein paid a visit to the single-story control center as part of a six-day tour of nuclear-related facilities across the country. As instructed, Soto-Gonzalez described his job to the Air Force chief of staff. But it was a piece of information at the beginning of the young airman’s briefing that caught the general’s attention: Soto is from Puerto Rico, the American island recently devastated by Hurricane Maria. Goldfein asked Soto-Gonzalez how his family made out. “I don’t know, sir,” the airman responded." remoandiris
Good story. Just to be clear, Gen Goldfein is the USAF Chief of Staff, not a CMSgt. I realize it states that in the article, but it is kind of buried.
RV_
Remo, He is the AF Chief. The only positions over him are the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, and the commander in Chief. If you went to the article I linked to the four stars should be a big clue. YW Bob. RV_
I didn't worry about disagreeing with you for the reasons you stated, nor being read wrong. Or reading yours wrong. But if you read mine as I read yours and read any part wrong, based on reading into what you read, as you want to read the meaning, and not reading past experience in reading what was read, as the right read to what you read, and then I read anything wrong as well, reading mine would possibly result in my reading yours wrong, by reading too much into it. But if we read it right, can re-read it again to read into it what was written to be read in reading it in the first reading, right? ©Derek Gore/RV Roadie 1997-2004 All Rights Reserved. Ray,IN
Talk about leadership, wonder what that airmans CO heard? The General followed up on the unit commanders job. All unit commanders have the responsibility to insure their people remain in contact with their parents periodically. I have been asked (private E-1), and have asked (1SG E-8) "how long since you've written or called your parents" countless times. 2000 Winnebago Ultimate Freedom USQ40JD, ISC 8.3 Cummins 350, Spartan MM Chassis. RV_
Ray, Those were the days. Today they can Google Voice, Skype, and share pics and vids on FaceBook. Times have changed. Puerto Rico was a different story. No way in or out electronically or in RW.
