That's clearly a hoax photo! I've never seen or heard of a jackalope over 5-7 pounds at the biggest. And I've seen more than a few in my day. I'm sure Al has can to that fact. Probably the average Jackalope never reach more the 3-4lbs and less than half that weight is even edible. Talk about believing every you see in a photo... From all of your posts I never would have thought you to believe in such bunk. Why do you think there are so few photos and head plaques? Have you ever tried to pop a 2lb jackalope with a .22 at 50 yards?? They are as skiddish as all get out. Clearly... age does not necessarily equate to wisdom. Genuine ones are a cross between a pronghorn antelope and a jack rabbit, but there are some occasions when one is seen that is crossed with deer, but those are not true jackalope, but should probably be called deeralope, and those are far more common. The true jackalope has been found to be most often seen late at night and well out onto the prairie and usually after consuming generous portions of alcoholic beverages. Well, that is real interesting. So the Jackalopes are rarer the deeralopes........well, I guess is it tougher for a Jack to run down a antelope than a deer. It would be interesting to see a Jack running after "consuming generous portions of alcoholic beverages". Do all the female Jacks just disappear before closing time?? Pat & Pete
I think you guys have it bass ackwards . Wouldn't a deeralope be a cross between a deer and an antelope ? And , a jackadeer be a cross between a jack rabbit and a deer ? I've lived out west for a couple years . I never had the right equipment to spot either a live jackalope or a jackadeer , as both are nocturnal and are known to avoid roadways by a wide margin . I can understand just how such cross breeding might occur . I've witnessed 'stampedes' of antelope and deer in close proximity to jackrabbits . The jackrabbits are definitely slower , but run just tall enough that when run over by either an antelope or a deer ... Anyway , those occasions were simply incredible . Goes around , comes around .
