Virginia to change concealed carry reciprocity - UPDATE (see last post)

"Point is that when traveling across country one can really get into a federal violation of transport should one get stopped. Another point to consider is, do you mention a weapon on board or keep silent? "

Transportation across state lines is easy and legal in all states. Stored away and locked up out of your immediate control and ammunition stored separately .

Lying to a police officer is a punishable offense . You can refuse to answer but you best not lie. If you refuse to answer you can almost be assured of a search and a very bad day.

Best to do lots of research and be legal.... Or simply travel unarmed and trust the odds. I'm an NRA and certified State Police instructor / trainer. When folks tell me they want to carry I always show them the infanticimal odds that they will ever need a gun......unless they are a drug dealer or travel into certain areas of certain big cities. Just my opinion.

RoyB, I was advised to not attempt to carry a pistol across New York state. They will interpret you have stopped in the state if you stop to get a meal or fuel. Even pistol and ammo locked up separate does not satisfy them and you have to have a NY permit they do not accept any reciprocity of carry licenses.

here is a start to understand carry laws.

https://www.usacarry.com/concealed_carry_permit_reciprocity_maps.html

we have the birth right to protect ourselves and family.

to be safe in your travels it is best to know the laws if the lands you travel in.

but i do agree if one is to own ( ANYTHING). one should understand how it works.

not how to fix it, but know a bit of it.... ie: computers, etc.

simple machines like a gun, knife, etc. are easy to understand.

If you plan to defend yourself with any weapon, you need to be proficient in using it. Most firearms owners do not practice nearly enough and particularly when RVing.

Great Topic People, I've been looking over the conceal carry issue for the Pacific Northwest including Washington, Oregon, Nevada, and California. It appears that even though some states recognize permits from some states but not neighboring states one would have to acquire several permits from other states in order to be legal. Nevada gets real confusing as it looks like they only issue by county, (or have I missed something)? Point is that when traveling across country one can really get into a federal violation of transport should one get stopped. Another point to consider is, do you mention a weapon on board or keep silent?

I'm asking as this is a situational incident one may encounter while traveling and by state and federal regulations one law abiding citizen may become prosecuted and convicted due to an over site. Either way one is faced with the legal financial stress of protecting their home and family.

I agree with Stanley P Miller, we need a National Conceal Carry Permit. How do we accomplish such a task?

the nevada permit is issued by county. but is state wide usage.

just watch out on tribal land nevada and/or tribal laws in effect.

Only a person that carries a gun, needs a gun.  First, I will say if you are stopping in an area and feel threatened, leave.  NOT trying to offend anyone, please don't take it as such.  Saying that, maybe ALL states should take on NDs new law.  If your NOT a felon and otherwise legal to own a gun (pistol), you may carry it concealed, or open carry, no license required.  I do think that is restricted to state residents though.  But, there are restrictions.  It also does not give you the right to carry cross state lines, ya might get in hot water if ya tried.

When we plan on stopping, or boondocking in wilderness areas, I do carry a shotgun with slugs.  That, and a dog.  Have never been hassled about that.  I see a lot of bear strength pepper spray for sale but I've heard that can get you in trouble in some states?

...Going to be a real aggravation, shame we can't have a national concealed carry permit, we could carry it with our national fishing license. :-(

The cure is easy, just repeal the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution.

havig a pistol, rifle, shotgun.

with you, on you person,

is only life insurance.

just lke any insurance, the last thing anyone wants to do is use it.

but the biggest part of carrng a gun on you is knowing what is around you at all times.

so many stumble around in the white.  (believing it will never happen to them).

theses people set them selves  up so bad people can hurt them.

true most will never get hurt.

those of use belivig in protectig our selves, family, etc. live in the yellow zone.

( watching out, knowng what is about and watching you, etc)

some of use might get hurt.

RED is the place nobody wants to be in. ( the stuff has hit the fan).

everybody gets hurt here.

if you do not want to carry a gun. then please dont. but please do not force me to be a victim.

one of the deals is to always check things out. does not feel right at that place. move on. always check things / people out

but sad the crooks pick the time and place.

most ladys are not equipped to fight off a 250 gorilla. i am 58, male, bad body. any young punk coud tear me to peaces. i live alone. work very odd hrs.

being on the rd is not safe.

where are you?

how far away is the police?

can they even find you?

sure lots of buzz frazes but they are all true.

having a pistol with me only gives me a chance, not a guaranty of a win.   and i follow the rules, should never leave yellow.

if done right my gun would never be seen, or know about.

Am I the only one who doesn't get this?  What language is it?

We spend a lot of time in the mountains and nearly always carry.  The time it takes for some animals to attack is at most seconds.  Help is maybe an hour away.  Last fall we came across some nonwelcome hunters that had just killed 2 elk on our land.  Time to tread lightly as everyone is armed and not happy.

I get most of it although there are a few terms or wordings I am not familiar with. I kind of surmise the meaning of some of the ones I am not familiar with.  Some of it may be due to being from different areas of life experience.  Kind of like a local language useage.  IE;  once in Chattanooga I was having trouble finding " Shallow Ford Road"  I showed a local person the name and she said I can tell you how to find  "shallaferd" road.  It took more conversation to realize we were talking about the same place.

Wasp Spray might be safer than Bear pepper spray.

I ran a business in NC long before rving. Carried lots of money out each day. Cops at my place at closing hour, just talking. I'm bagging up money. " Where is your pistol?". Don't have one. Before I left, had paperwork for permit filled out and escort. Every since being told I was asking for trouble, I carry.

no state i know of encodes ccw info on or with your dl.

but it is elsewere on the computer screen in some states.  best to get a ccw from a number of states. 5-6 of them and you are legal in almost all states. ca, or are hold outs for the west coast. they do not allow any other state permits.

best to get the nev permit,  yes county sherriff issued but good state wide. covers you in some "excluded zones".

as a resident of ca, i also have az, nv, ut, still need the or. this will cover me in every state on the western half of the country ( except the rocks in the pacific). and most on the east coast.

soon with luck the supreams will

conform that the 2ed is just as valed as the 1st, 3ed, 4th and 5th

and it then will be nation wide just like how we have free travel to all 50 states.
