Admiral Baker Field RV Park (or others in/near San Diego)

Second Chance

Recommended Posts

After the first of the year, we would like to head to Southern California to visit my wife's brother. We expected sticker shock when looking at RV Parks in the San Diego/La Jolla area, but $60 - $90 a night and up is a bit much. A neighbor here at the RV Park on Aberdeen Proving Ground recommended Fiddler's Cove on Coronado Island (Navy facility), but they have NO availability for the month of January. The Admiral Baker Field RV Park seems to have availability, but the photos look like closely-spaced RVs circled around a grass field with a playground in the middle. At $30 a night, though, it would be a place to lay our heads down at night. Has anyone had any experience with the Admiral Baker Field park or can you recommend some budget-minded alternatives for about a week in the SD/La Jolla area for the first half of January?

Thanks!

Look at Passport America for 50% off sites...may be worth joining for you.

Thanks, Jim. I just joined PA on-line and found a park within 20 minutes of my brother-in-law's place. The 50% discount will pay for the PA membership many times over! I'm sure we'll continue to use it as we move about in our new full-time lifestyle.

Try Camp Pendleton they have RV parking if you are a Vet.

Otherwise San Diego IS expensive due to high demand.

There are several Thousand Trails Parks within 50 miles, County Parks, Casinos to dry camp at, BLM land, National Forest areas.

Some research might find you something you can live with.

PA has been a MAJOR source of discounted camping so far in our short full time adventure.

there are no cheap rv sites in san diego county. i had to stay in an rv park in east san diego for recovery from shoulder surgery. $850.00 a month plus electric. you can try santee lakes it might be cheaper . we joined thousand trails 1 year west coast pass, it has worked out well for us.

We have stayed at ADM Baker several times and found it satisfactory. It is centrally located, rather quiet and about as affordable as one can find in San Diego for a FHU RV site. In fact, I have reservations for the month of Feb 2016. Fiddler's Cove is recently reopened after an extensive rebuilding and as such is hard to get a spot in.

Another alternative is one of the SD County Parks with RV facilities. We have stayed in most of them and found them very good. Sweetwater County Park is one of the newer locations just east of Bonita with good sized sites. The only downside of most of the county parks is that most of the RV sites are water/elec only. A dump station is always available...but no sewer connection at your site. I think Lake Jennings county park has a few FHU sites.

We recently stayed at Sweetwater in a full hook up site. We had a problem with ants but I think if you are aware of this and prepare the site/rig from the start you would be Ok.

We looked at Rancho Los Coches RV park as well and it was a smaller park, monthly rates between $575 & $800 plus electric.

We have stayed at Admiral Baker in the past and it was ok but the sites were very close together.

Santee Lakes is also very nice but sometimes hard to get into for a month without having to switch sites.

Here's another vote for Santee Lakes, also maybe Chula Vista RV Resort. Haven't been there in a few years so can't remember the rates. There was another one I believe in Imperial Beach called Bernardo Shores, but don't know anything about it.

What RV park give a 50% discount in San Diego. Would be a good reason to join PA. I lived in SD FOR 35 years before I went full time. My house overlooked Admiral Backer gold course. X2 on Sweetwater County Park.
