We are at the MS gulf coast. Something we see down here that we have not seen in the north are RV rent to own dealers. We have seen inventory and they are nice rv's. Many are brand new. You might do a search and see if you can find something like that. They may not be as picky about credit as a bank would. Don't know for sure though. It's probably more expensive that way, but you could check it out and see if it's possible to do the rent to own for a couple years and then finance the balance of the rental/own contract thru a bank after you are on your feet again.

You might go to a credit union to get pre-approved. If they know that you're putting down 25-40% of the purchase price, they'll be a lot more open to giving you the loan.

Northwood Mfg. builds some nice units that are built pretty well and much less than the Mobile Suites or some of the other high end, full time units. I believe they even made some in the past with the bunks that you may be able to find used. Many with dual pane windows so your heating/cooling costs will be less.

Get an idea what you're looking for then go to RV Trader on the net and do a search.

Earlier people asked what the tow vehicle will be and you mentioned that a friend will pull it for you. The size of the truck (ie 1/2 ton, 3/4 ton, 1 ton, etc.) will still dictate what size (weight) of trailer or fifth wheel you can get.

Have you considered renting a mobile home that's already in a mobile home park or are you looking for something that will be long term?

Good luck in your search.
