2015 National HDT Rally

Recommended Posts

First I want to thank all that came out to this year's HDT Rally. A great time was had by all. Many have asked what the dates are for 2015, and they have been confirmed for October 11 to 17. I hope to see you all there.

Steve.....would like to make it there. But, even if I could get the time my DW won't leave home on the Canadian Thanksgiving long weekend which is a big family get together for us.

All can say is WOW! What an amazing group of people. You are even better in person than on the forum. Learned a lot and made new lifelong friends what a deal! Steve and Gail super job.

Thanks Steve and Gail, great job! We really enjoyed our first HDT rally and met a lot of wonderful people and learned a lot. Getting the new rig weighed on the way out was also very informative, thanks to Trey and Susan Selman for providing that service. Safe travels and Best Wishes to All, Jay and Kathy

We had great time at our first rally and appreciate all the efforts of Steve, Gail and team! As they say, "we'll be back".

And thanks for the $100 gift card for being first to register . . . what a pleasant surprise! Thanks . . . Jim & Wilma

Thank you Steve & Gail for such a great rally. It was our first rally ever after camping with our rig for eleven years. Thanks to everyone for making us feel welcome at this event. We had a great time and made a lot of friends.

We had a blast. My wife was unsure because "I dont know anybody". That was soon remedied. She is now telling me all she learned about hdt and is anxious to get her permit. We made some great friends. We will be back.

Great rally Steve. As usual you guys did an awesome job. We have already marked the Calendar for next year. Jacolyn says that she will try to arrive AND remain uninjured next year.

Steve/Gail: You guys seem to be having a good time with the rallies while at the same time doing a fine job.

As for 2015, according to the records I have left, it will be the 10th annual which is quite a big deal.

Unfortunately we can not escape our commitments until close to Oct 25th which puts a crimp in any plans to attend.

Jim

Steve and Gail, what a great job of organizing a fun event. It was our first and certainly will not be the last one we attend....though in the future we will bring our own HDT and coach instead of gawking at everyone else.

We too have made some friends and are excited about our upcoming 2016 "jump" into this wonderful lifestyle.

Thanks again and we hope to make next year!

Steve and Gail, you guys really know how to throw a "party"!

That wasn't all the rigs, there were few "stragglers" who remained in the park.

It was good to see all the "veterans" but even more so all the new folks who attended for the first time to learn, to "absorb" and form new friendships.

All the vehicles (other than HDTs) arrived either piggybacked on the HDTs or in "mobile garages".

Mr. Cobb brought his two Urals (Soviet knockoffs of the German infantry BMWs)

He also brought a brand new 2014 model they make these days.

These things are made for off road travel and will go places even 4 x 4s don't dare to go.

Post Rally "decompression" Happy Hour.

And the boys!

With boys there is no "decompression" since the BS session never stop.

Didn't take too many pictures, busy all week.

I'm sure there will be albums posted later and Gregg took some "interesting" areal videos of the Rally.

For the two days I was there it was a great rally. Good to see everyone both new and previously met in years past. Don't want to do the Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, Kansas, Florida trip any time soon again. Way too many miles in too few days. I have about 5 to 10 miles to finish up my travel until well after the first of the year. It will be complete by 2pm tomorrow.

Rod

PS Thanks to Steve, Gail, all the presenters and those who help out. You always do a fine job and make it well worth the trip.

Steve, you and Gail did a great job. We arrived home yesterday. Round trip 2200 miles and averaged 7.6 mpg per computer.

Hello Suite,

With your distance and gas milage, how much did it cost you to fill up driving that distance, and did you run the tanks (almost) empty??

I'm assuming 7.6mpg@2200 miles would have taken about 225-250 gallons??

Fuel averaged 2.69/gal for 280 gals so fuel cost was about $800. Just filled up at Kroger with fuel points and paid $1.79/ gal for 35 gals. Diesel around here running $2.38 so if it holds will be a cheaper trip this year. I do not run my tanks to empty. Will top off if we need a break or we see cheap fuel. I never go below 1/4 tank showing on gauge and when it gets that low I usually stick check at our rest stop.

BTW with campsites, food, fuel we spent two weeks with our friends at the National and spent less than $100/day. Last time we spent night at Hampton Inn paid $104 for the night and still had to buy our meals. This is still a cheaper way to vacation, IF you don't have mechanical issues.
