hdrider
I recently got a basic Phantom with a GoPro attachment. Have only flown it once, crashed a couple of times, but no damage to the drone. Looking forward to getting it out again. You will really enjoy it once you get the hang of it which won't take long. Jimalberta
This morning the owners from the RC shop in Havasu brought some demo planes to Q and flew them all. They have a new trainer from the same people who produce the Apprentice. It has a gps built in and will map the airstrip and then land itself if commanded to.
....JIM and LINDA......2001 American Eagle 40 '.towing a GMC Sierra 1500 4X4 with RZR in the rear. 1999 JEEP Cherokee that we tow as well. hdrider
I thought I would touch back again. I fly the Apprentice on advanced mode 100% of the time now. It's not highly acrobatic but I have no problems with loops, hammer heads and lazy rolls and even fly inverted (just in straight lines). I feel pretty confident with it. I have also bought a EPP foam YAK55, now that is a different animal all together!! I picked up a used Spectrum DX6i to use with the YAK. I have the expo's down at 70% now to help keep it in control but I'm glad the EPP is so easily repaired, if ya know what I mean LOL!! The YAK was probably to big of a 2nd step but I will work with it. The wings come off for easy transport but the tail feathers are glued so they create a little challenge. I find myself using a RC Airfield app on the phone as we plan our route's now LOL!!! I hope my wife does not figure that out, shhhh don't tell her LOL!! Oh, we have been at this campground for 18 days and there is a airfield near so I have flown 17 mornings of the 18 and have gone out 5 evening's. Yes, I have a problem. mb36912
Just curious as to how many of us are members of AMA (Academy of Model Aeronautics) and how many have applied for the new FAA UAS registration required to fly anything weighing over 0.55 lbs? I put off UAS registration until AMA sanctioned fields started requiring it before allowing you to fly there. Flying used to be fun and easy and embraced about anywhere....now it's getting to be a real pain in the more populated areas....like here in Florida. Just what we needed, another worthless gov't registration program that won't solve anything. It will become a fee collection program and little else. hdrider
Yup, yes to both. I didn't mind the AMA and in fact figured it was a pretty good idea but registering with the FED's just rubs me raw. I have a 32" Crack Yak that I fly in very small areas and is always set up and ready to go. I started with a used one and after banging it around for a year and making numerous repairs, I finally bought and built a new airframe. I moved all of the electronics from the old one on to the new one, and gave that old airframe a proper burial. Hopefully most of my significant repairs are behind me. But as some say, if you're not crashing you're not trying hard enough!! Jimalberta
An update from me...I have switched from the super cub.....too twitchy and light for windy days....to an apprentice. I like the fact that in addition to beginner mode it has a panic switch so even when flying in expert you can flip the panic switch and the plane will recover. I also got myself a powered glider for flying out in the desert. Its hand launch and lands so slow that setting it down on pebbles is no problem . Sometimes if you can bring it into a breeze you can pluck it out of the air by hand... When I get better at this sport I want to get a T28. They are a great intermediate plane and you can do lots with them. We are getting ready to head back to Canada but might just stop for a night or 2 in Mesquite as they have what appears to be a nice RC field south of town and I might even be able to boondock there.
....JIM and LINDA......2001 American Eagle 40 '.towing a GMC Sierra 1500 4X4 with RZR in the rear. 1999 JEEP Cherokee that we tow as well. Hmm, may need to check out that airfield in Mesquite. We will be heading north on Friday and don't really have a route in mind after our first couple spots, Mesquite just COULD be in our route LOL!!! Don't tell my wife. Jerry Campbell
We just got back up north and it has been cold but the sun has arrived and flying weather is here for a while. Where is Mesquite? I'll check it out next winter. Yes, I registered too. Jerry I think I found it. On the AZ NV border. We don't usually go that way. Jimalberta
Spent a few days boondocking at Mesquite and flew there. Its not a bad field...worth the stopover.
....JIM and LINDA......2001 American Eagle 40 '.towing a GMC Sierra 1500 4X4 with RZR in the rear. 1999 JEEP Cherokee that we tow as well.
