The Class-less Class

Day 3 finds me in Minden LA at the Beaver Dam Forest Service campground in the Caney Lake Rec Area. About 6 miles North of town. This is a fantastic park. Large level paved sites with a view of the lake with water and 30/50 electric. And it's all for $9.50 a night with the America the Beautiful pass for old foggies. After so long in the desert I'm really feeling the humidity. I have to reach up and grab a piece of air and wring it out before I can breath it. The weather man says the storm system that has been following me has caught up and will drown me for the next 4 days. I'm hoping it will be well past me next Tuesday when I start out traveling again. I really need the down time to nurse the aches and pains and walk out the kinks. I hope I get enough breaks in the rain to walk. Steve, have a shot of that ice tea for me. Good luck with your defoggin'.

11 AM Friday. So far no rain but skies are mostly cloudy. The Verizon signal is very iffy so if I seem to fall off the edge of earth Blame Verizon. I'm going back into town today to scout it out. This park is so nice I'm logging it as a must stop when passing this area. It's a little hard to find but the GPS coordinates work fine. I used N 32.3060 W 93.6760 which was a guess using Delorme Street Atlas and they worked fine. The road coming in is a little crooked and has lots of trees but would not be a problem for a big rig. The park is on a point that Caney lake wraps around giving almost all the sites lakeside views. There are very few people here. That may change tonight because of the weekend but very few of the reserve sites are reserved. The park host is a friendly sort of guy and ready to answer any questions. The pay envelopes at the iron ranger are mostly stuck closed because of the LA humidity by carefully peeling it open I managed to save most of the glue so it would seal again when I put my check in. The envelopes are in a slot under the brown box on the Bulletin board. Look at the bottom edge of the box and you'll see a small half moon of white. Siide it straight out it's the envelope. The box has a big padlock on it and will fool you into thinking it's not for you to be messing with. I hope Verizon holds on long enough to post this. It may be the last time I can post while I'm here.

Steve are you sure it is you with the foggy vision? I think it must have been Carol for looking at you for 34 years. Congrats both of you. The weather man lied and I'm glad. It was a really nice day. No Rain. I hope he keeps on lying till Tuesday morning. I went into town today. It's a busy place and larger than I had thought. But, the restaurant I ate lunch in was a disaster. After I ate lunch I ask some people at the gas station where a nice quiet dinner type restaurant was. All they could come up with is a place called Angies Soul Food west of town. They said it's not fancy but the food is pretty good. I think I'll stay home and play kitchen roulette.

All the storms that were predicted for this ares seem to have fizzled. This noon it rained moderately for 8 minutes then has just drizzled on and off since. They have changed the forecast for tomorrow to only a 20 percent chance and now they have Monday as Sunny. I'm not complaining it has given me a chance to enjoy this beautiful park. There are 29 sites distributed around a worm like circular drive that is .7 miles around. I walked around last evening. Today (Saturday) they are less than half full and it's the weekend. The rain may have a little to do with that but the Host says they seldom fill except on major holidays. This afternoon has not been a very good day for doing anything but sleep and I did that so well last night that I don't have any sleep left in me. Oh well I guess the Cranberry Juice will hold out for two more days. I expected to see boats on the lake this weekend but I've only seen one since I've been here. Another RV just pulled in as I'm writing this. It's a Sprinter Chases like Linda's but a bit larger. If the drizzle stops I'll take another walk around the park and count the rigs. There is a nice trail around the lake but I'm not up to that. I walked a little ways down the trail to a point that sort of sticks out into the lake. It was well maintained and easy walking but a little far for me to tackle. The way the road in here zig zags around I found that we are about half way back to town the way the crow flies. A few years ago that would have made it withing walking distance. But I don't see any trails going that way. Tomorrow I'll torque my trailer wheels and grease the hitch one more time and I'll be ready for the other half of this trip.

IYQ -- We beat you to South Carolina!

That's what we've had mostly with all the predicted rain once we left the Gulf Coast. If it's rained or stormed heavy, it's been at night. Any rain during the day has been short. However, looking ahead we might be in for it storm-wise on Sunday. They've been wrong most of the time so figuring they'll be wrong this time too. At least we hope they will be.

Sunday and a beautiful one at that. Not a cloud in the sky. About 3AM this morning a little thunder boomer moved through but only produced about 5 minutes of rain. I may just forfeit on day's rent and continue my journey tomorrow morning. I'd have a better chance of following this pocket of sunshine the rest of the way. If I leave Tuesday as I had planned I might have a little rain the last night on the road. The few weekenders that were here are gone already. They must live in Shreveport to leave this early after only getting here yesterday evening. Maybe that explains why such a nice park don't get very many campers. Plus the fact that there a two very large lakes just south of I-20 that probably get most of the weekenders. I'm not posting on the map page because of the poor signal here. Camp Happy

Thanks to Jeri's prompting I had Dave move my pin today. Don't want you all trying to do a meet up with me in North Carolina now that i am back in Minnesota. We've had some weird weather this year--big snow flakes one morning then very warm sunshine that very afternoon.

Boy she seems to really like Texas flowers! And, she doesn't look like she's gotten much bigger since we last saw Cali.

Snowed about an inch the other day here in NM...gotta get out of this Santa Fe altitude!

Roger it got cold here last night. Down to 58 degrees. LOL.

Cali was 11 lbs. at her first vet visit on 3/9. Today (4/20) she went in to be spade and weighed 17 lbs. Her head is about knee high. Hope she doesn't get much bigger. Levi the cat is tolerating her. Also she has lots of energy too.

Relief is in sight. Doug and I have been sick. The first doctor we saw gave us a recommendation for an expectorant and a prescription for Tylenol 3 because our chests hurt from so much coughing. 8 days later no change in Doug and I am still coughing but not as much. Saw a different doctor today, one who actually took the time to ask about the 2 previous bouts of pneumonia Doug has had, and he prescribed antibiotics for Doug and for me to continue with the cough medicine. Doug took the first dose about noon and is already feeling better. Hurrah, maybe we will get some sleep.

Our staff in the park is doing a wonderful job with supervision by cell-phone. We should be able to help out in a couple of days.

Tonight finds me in Meridian MS. The weather is beautiful. 75 degrees and sunny. The MS highways aren't so good though especially around larger cities. As I was going past Jackson I thought the trailer was trying to jump over the truck and start a game of leapfrog. When I finally got stopped for the night it looked like the tornado watch for last night had been at work inside the trailer. My blender which has ridden in the same place every sence I bought it, had jumped out of the recess it rides in and came down on the cold water valve and broke the handle off. The blender wasn't hurt. Nothing else seems to be hurt except my back picking up all the stuff. Oh Well only one more stop in Tallapoosa GA. I think I'll also stop about 25 miles short of my GG Nieses to dump and take on fresh water before going on in the next day. The park I stopped in at Meridian aint so good. It's advertised as a Campground but is more of a mobilehome park with 4 or 5 poorly maintaind overnight sites but the only other RV park is another 5 miles off the interstate.

I pulled in at Tallapoosa GA about noon. I'm at the Big Oaks RV Pk about half a mile off I-20. The weather is gorges and so is this park. The 2 long over nite pull-thrus are nothing special but I am level without blocks or the stabilizers down. Still hooked up and ready to go in the morning with only the electric cord to put away. For some reason every bone in my body got sore today. I only have one 250 mile day to go so I'll have time to rest the bones at my GG Nieces place. Going back west will be done a a much slower pace With many more breaks.

I'm in Gilbert SC just across the lake from my GG Nieces place (24 miles) She came by and picked me up after work and took me to her place so I could see where I could park and fed me a very tasty dinner. After dinner they ( Her & Husband ) brought me back to my trailer. I'll pull on over to their house in the morning while they are at work and get set up. My Niece and her husband will be here Friday. He has to go on to a job for his old company wrapping up a contract that was just finished. But my niece will stay part of next week so we can chat while the younger ones go back to work. When all the talk is done I'll leave and start a slow drift back west. I'll probably do the 2 lane routes staying at COE CGs and forest service CGs on the way back. It's vacation time for me. No more of this "gotta get there by ???" stuff. I'll get there when I get there. I may go back to Deming first to pick up some stuff that I left in storage in my shop then head north to find a cooler place for the rest of summer. Why is it that you always find you need what you didn't think you'd need.

Steve: I emailed Deming and told them to send my pin to my nieces place. When it gets here I stick it in her side yard.

Steve look now. Deming sent my pin via email so I forwarded it to my GG Niece and she stuck it out where I'll park tomorrow.

I'm setting in my GG Nieces yard. It was very hard to get into the yard because of narrow streets and unfortunately placed mail boxes plus narrow gates and drainage ditches with culverts very close to the road. This is a beautiful lakeside neighborhood with manicured lawns and trees everywhere. Unfortunately, I bent a strut on my Hensley hitch trying to turn too sharp while backing up. I finally got in by going on down the road, turn around and approach from the other direction to get a mailbox out of the equation And come in the front drive going forward. I think I can get out the back gate because the mail box across the road from that gate will not be in the way while going out. I may have to stay here until I get another strut from Hensley via UPS. The good things that my GG Nieces feeds me may have me too heavy for the truck to pull by then. ;)
