  1. Tucson and the Wild West HOP March 22, 2019 After a busy week at Escapade, you might consider an enjoyable and relaxing HOP. Let us do the driving, while you sit back, relax and enjoy! Board a luxury coach with a local, fun and knowledgeable tour guide. Enjoy scenic views of the beautiful countryside of mountains and deserts, while learning about the rich western heritage of Tucson and the surrounding area. HOPs are fun and exciting, especially when shared with other Escapees friends! On this excursion: Enjoy a scenic drive through the Tucson Mountain Park, a part of the beautiful Sonoran Desert, to visit the Old Tucson Film Studios. These studios are a re-creation of an old 1880s western town built by Columbia Studios. The movies of many well-known “Old American West” actors, such as John Wayne and many others, were shot there, as well as music CD covers, commercials and T.V. shows! You’ll be entertained by watching gunfights on the streets, live shows in the Grand Palace, taking a guided walking tour, or a stroll through the Movie Museum and the Native Village, along with many other fun activities and attractions. What a fun way to learn the fascinating history of the Old American West. Bring comfortable walking shoes and enjoy the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, including a 98-acre zoo that was founded to help promote conservation. There are over 200 native mammals, reptiles, amphibians, insects and birds, including several species of hummingbirds. It also has an aquarium, botanical garden, natural history museum and an art gallery. The beautiful Mission San Xavier del Bac, also known as “The White Dove of the Desert,” was built in the 1700s. It was founded as a Catholic mission and is a National Historic Landmark. The mission is considered to be one of the finest examples of Spanish Colonial architecture. Payment options When registering for a land HOP, you must pay half of the fee upon registration, and can then make monthly payments. The balance is due 60 days prior to the event. Ask the HOP department about this payment option. Note: Non-Escapees members are welcome to attend, too! There is a $50.00 charge for nonmembers.   2. Guns and Ammo HOP Tucson Escapade Post HOP March 22, 2019 After a busy week at Escapade, let’s get together for a fun, friendly shooting competition! This HOP will give you the opportunity to participate in safe gun-handling skills, in a competitive, yet friendly, environment. There will be two classes of competitions revolver and semi-auto. You may choose revolver, semi-auto, or both. A prize will be presented to the best shooter in each of these two competitions. In the event of a tie, a coin flip will decide the best shooter. Paper targets will be supplied and the distance will be 3, 5, 7, 10, 15 and 25 yards. Competition will be a 50 round course of fire. Please provide your own ammo, as well as eye and ear protection. You must know how to shoot and operate a weapon safely.   3. We were hired as Work Campers at Crazy Horse RV Campground in Tucson. The Owner/Manager is currently looking for additional competent help. You get a site, plus electricity, free laundry, for working 25 hours per week PLUS, $ 500/month. Work is in the office assisting guest, checking sites, answering telephone, etc. You WILL BE working with a computer utilizing the ASTRA/ Campground Manager computer program. Hours will be reasonably flexible. Need to be friendly, have a pleasant, professional demeanor, and must be easy to get along with. Dress is casual but nice. HOPs are fun and exciting, especially when shared with your fellow SKP friends. Board a luxury coach with a local tour guide and enjoy the scenic view of the beautiful countryside, the mountains, the deserts, while learning about the rich western heritage of Tucson. We’ll watch gun fights, see live shows in the Grand Palace and stroll through the movie museum and a native village. Ride on the Old Tucson train. Board a luxury motor coach with a local tour guide and enjoy the beautiful view of the mountains, mesas, deserts, and learn about Tombstone’s rich Western heritage. Images of gunfights, miners, saloons, ladies of the night, Wyatt Earp, Doc Holliday, and the famous shoot-out at the O.K. Corral are the first thoughts in your mind when you hear about Tombstone, once a booming mining town, now one of the last frontier towns. HOPs are fun and enjoyable when you gather with fellow SKP friends. On this all day excursion, you will enjoy: Mescal tour, an old West town, built as a movie set where many Western movies were shot such as Quick and the Dead, Monte Walsh, The life and Times of Judge Roy Bean, and many more! The famous “shoot-out” at the O.K. Corral Tombstone's Historama The Birdcage Theater Museum, one of Tombstone's famous national landmarks. Legend has it that 26 people were killed in the Bird Cage during the Wild West days. On the excursion you will enjoy: The architectural history of the “Mansions on Main Street”. The University of Arizona is rich with history. One of the two mast bells from the U.S.S. Arizona is part of the bell tower of the Student Union. The university also receives more NASA grants than any other university in the United States. The original building of the Presidio San Agustin del Tucson was built in the 18th century by Spanish solders. The beautiful Mission San Xavier del Bac also known as “The White Dove of the Desert”, was built in the 1700s. It’s a National Historic Landmark and was founded as a Catholic mission. The mission is considered to be the finest example of the Spanish Colonial architecture. "A" Mountain, also known as Sentinel Peak is a beautiful panoramic view of Tucson and the surrounding area. Visit several of the “saloon” venues. Via Tucson Mountain Park, a beautiful patch of the Sonoran Desert, visit the Old Tucson Film Studios which is a recreation of an 1880s old western town built by Columbia studios.
