  1. Hello guys, long time lurker first time posting here. I have a 2005 Freightliner Classic w/14L Detroit 60 Series, 10 spd Ultrashift. I get a "No Data Link" alert after the truck is washed even when the hood is kept closed. When I get the alert the Tach, speedo, oil press, coolant temp, and voltage gages all are dead. After sitting 20 minutes or so it all goes back to normal. Fortunately when this happens it still starts and shifts. I have glanced over the connectors and harness and sure don't see anything that would indicate an issue. I had the dealer look at it and they say they can't find anything wrong, they claim the weather packing on the harness and connectors look good and there are no fault codes stored in memory. I know sooner or later I will run into a rain and not sure what will happen... If any of you Freightliner owners have experienced this or have any good ideas on where to concentrate I would appreciate it. Thanks, DMK

Ok let’s put our collective minds together for this one, I’ve got a 1999 freightliner sports chassis powered by a CAT motor, automatic transmission, I went to start it and nothing happened, like the batteries were dead, checked that, batteries are good, no buzzer or bells, anyone had this happen before, and what was the cause, just trying to get some feed back before I have it towed in to a shop somewhere in the Kent Washington area, BTW I just negotiated a 15% off at the KOA here in Kent for anyone with a current union dues receipt, thanks in advance for your help
  4. HI everyone! I am new to posting here. I have been doing some research at length and trying to put everything together, but I was wondering if I can get some recommendations on my specific situation! We currently tow our 41 foot fifth and a gooseneck with antique tractors with a 2004 Dodge with the cummins and six speed. While adequate power, I am growing more concerned regarding braking and suspension with each trip. Which is, of course, what prompted me to look into MDT. Our family consists of myself, my wife, a 4 year old and a one year old. Because they are still in car seats, I felt that a 4 door was necessary. ... I started my research and I really liked the SportChassis type freightliner and really liked the SportTruckRV version! I am one who wants to have power to spare, so I was specifically looking at the M2 112 version with the bigger displacement motor. However, we were not very excited about the price tags.... I am currently looking at a 2008 SportChassis with the 12 liter MBE and 35,000 miles on it and 2000 miles away from me....it looks great but ....unfortunately with a hefty price tag. Then I came across a used 2007 Volvo VNL 730 with 465 hp D12 and 580,000 miles. This was used most recently to haul grain trailers for a farm. it is 800 miles away from me. This has the sleeper, but the refrig is removed and it has been set up with 2 captains chairs sitting sideways and a dinette style table in the back. it is 1/3 the price of the SportChassis. I guess my concerns are: 1. Driving a large HDT- I have a non-commercial class A license, but without driving either MDT or HDT before, the MDT is less intimidating 2. Will it be a problem getting the car seats in and kids in the car seats, or would 4 doors be a lot better? 3. The Volvo is still a tandem....is it ok to leave it that way or will this need to be changed? 4. License/registration in PA....can it be an RV or does it have to be registered as a truck? 5. Is 580,000 miles too much and should I stay away based on that? 6. Parking when out on a trip without the fifth 7. Getting into some campgrounds...the truck is 12' tall, but the camper I guess would still be the limiting factor at 13'6" 8. Any other suggestions I am missing? I know these have probably been answered in one way or another multiple times on this great forum, but I was looking for recommendations for my situation in PA with 2 small children. Has commercial fifth wheel and fold away goose neck ball with all the electrical hook ups to pull anything from a commercial trailer, car hauler, or a camper.   12. We've finally finished up figuring out how to upgrade the headlights on the newer Freightliner Century trucks, with an approach that's not too difficult to install. Light output is much improved, but--and maybe more importantly to Heidi--there's now more chrome on the front of the truck. The 2005 and newer Century trucks came with a composite headlight that was about the same size as an H6024 (7" round) sealed beam style light. The older Century-class trucks actually did have an H6024, and the process revolves around "backdating" the headlight system to the older setup. The two main components that are changed are the headlight mounting brackets and bezel, but the inner parking light/DRL lamps are also different between the two styles. We had that mostly figured out a while ago, and had managed to mount a bi-Xenon HID setup on one side of Robert's truck (Heidi was never really crazy about the lazy eye we left on the other side). But it required a lot of trimming, and didn't really leave enough clearance to have full range of motion on the adjusters. So over the weekend, we took the Xenon lights out and put a Speaker in its place. The JWSpeaker LED assembly is as good as it gets for LEDs--not as good as the best Xenon projectors, but pretty close. But it's a permanently sealed housing with a lifetime warranty. On low beam, I measured 1.9A being drawn, which is about half of a stock low beam bulb. The first picture below shows the parts installed on the passenger side of the truck during daylight. If you look closely, you can see my reflection in the chrome--it seems to make me look thinner and taller than I really am. That's followed by a shot of the headlight while lit (low beam). The last two pictures are "before" and "after"--the unmodified left side of the truck, and the right side with the JWSpeaker LED assembly. Full disclosure: we didn't bother to disconnect the stock light in the after shot, but you'll be able to see that it doesn't really matter. All of the pictures are unedited, taken with my cell phone. If you have an older truck, the only parts needed are the lights themselves (unless you're attracted to shiny stuff), and installation requires a little trimming of the plastic frame the light mounts to (the one that moves with the adjusters). The same should be true on the older T2000s as well, but I'll have to find a volunteer to confirm that's the case--I'm reasonably confident that one of you will show up to the rally. Since everything else was going to be new and shiny, we upgraded the side marker/turn signal to an LED assembly, and installed an adapter for the inner turn signal/DRL that let us use a grommet-mount 4" round amber LED (with chrome trim to cover the grommet). The first LED was unimpressive there, so I dug out a couple of Truck-Lite lights that have the proper driver circuitry to get the brightness where it should be.     Glider Chassis

    Has anyone know about building a motorhome on a glidder chassis pre emission engine.I am guessing it would have to be a manual transmission,no electronics to get automated tranney to work.Probably a remanufactured Detroit series 60 425hp,reman.eaton 13sp.Not really knowing what rearend gears yet.We will be building unit to full time rv in,not pulling race cars.Im would quess the resale wouldn't be that great.Spec it out to keep it.Any info would be helpful.Thanks Bill.
