  1. We just took possession of a tandem axle 2013 T660 with the 86" studio sleeper. Truck specs are : Paccar mx13 485 hp/1650 torque 18 speed manual double overdrive 3.55 rears with lockers 12k fronts and 40k rears Front air suspension 244" wheelbase 22.5" tires We are Hauling a 44' XLR Thunderbolt 21,000 lb I got my class 1 license when I was 18, 28 years ago...after a couple of years as a long haul driver I went back to school and became a structural engineer and kept my CDL all this time planning to get an HDT RV. Took a while but better late than never! We don't go to campsites at all we just camp on BLM land with the dirt bikers or kananaskis country near calgary area rockies. When I drove commercial it was volvo 610's and freightliner FL120's mainly some internationals too Never rode a truck with a front air ride so I was pleasantly surprised it rides as good or better even than my ram 1 ton dually on beat up gravel roads and with tires fully inflated for commercial loads to boot. The long wheelbase has lots to do with it I figure This is going to be a lot of fun! Looking forward to sharing and learning with you all I'll post some pics over the weekend Cheers
  2. Re-locating to Texas as a permanent domicile state. I would like to ask what insurance companies Rvers with fifth-wheels use to insure their fifth wheel and towing vehicle (my is a Siverado, 2500hd). Will be full-time and possibly traveling out of the state.
  3. 1999 Freightliner FLD120 single axle tractor. In excellent shape with very low original miles. 12.7 liter Detroit Diesel, up to date on all services. Steer tires are new, drive tires approx 35% remaining. Has commercial fifth wheel and fold away goose neck ball with all the electrical hook ups to pull anything from a commercial trailer, car hauler, or a camper. Plenty of accessories inside and out, 5' stainless steel exhaust stacks, 1000 watt inverter with two plugins, toolbox for storage or generator, bunk hardly used, aftermarket steering wheel, Eaton 9 speed manual trans, new paint, stainless steel fender covers, stainless steel wing, dual 120 gallon fuel tanks, cb radio, and new cd player. Truck recently used to haul cars, but we are getting out of the business. The mileage will change some as it will still be on the road until it is sold. Pics too big to upload here, can been seen on Craigslist @ http://charlotte.craigslist.org/cto/5243543243.html
  4. Hi ladies and Gentleman, My daughter has a rare genetic condition that gets worse as the weather gets cold. She was just diagnosed this past February and the doctors told us we need to look to warmer climates for her and her specialists are in a state in the south. So we have been in a scramble to try to find the best fifth wheel to facilitate this. Naturally this caught us off guard and we do not have a ton of money saved up $12,000, We can make payments but our credit is not the best so not sure how to get financed. We had one dealer tells us they might be able to but only on one unit,The Heartland Gateway, but the unit has alot of customer complaints on them). Some said they wont even last 3 years. We are trying to determine which fifth wheel is the best value. We dont want to have to deal with a bunch of leaks and poor insulation or construction as we will be spending our time taking our daughter back and forth to her doctors. However, we also can not afford to buy "the best". There are 4 of us, two teenagers and my wife and I so we need a bunkhouse. We have heard that the DRV and New Horizones are good but even the used ones are out of our prices range. Any suggestions or information would be great
  5. I just had a new 5th wheel hitch installed. I had an experienced friend help me hitch up the first time. The hitch seemed to snap into place as expected. My friend said we were good to go. We pulled out of our spot and got about a quarter mile down the road before the trailer detached and ground to a halt. I realize that we failed to do a pull test like the manual said to do but I wonder how I got so far down the road before it gave way. How can I make sure that the thing is hitched right? Is pull test the only way. Any one with any experience with this?
  6. Does anyone have ideas/tips/product suggestions to remove engine oil stains on a fiberglass fith wheel? Our Dodge RAM engine blew an engine seal coming across Utah the other day. The engine survived thankfully but our new-to-us (!) RV is a mess. It got covered with grease just about everywhere and the 105-degree temps just baked it in. We cleaned it as best we could at a truck wash, but there are still stains all over the fiberglass and even worse on the plastic door and window trim, wheel fenders, etc. Not sure about the best way to attack this without messing up our new clear coat or the plastic, so any tips you might have would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
  7. 2009 Heartland Cyclone model 4012. 41' toyhauler has a separate 8 x 12 garage. Can sleep 10+ has 4 queen beds and 2 couches. 1 queen bed in separate master bedroom, 2 queen beds that slide down from ceiling in the enclosed garage, 1 queen bed in a loft in the living room, and 2 couches. Also has a large storage loft over the kitchen - I have never seen this in another camper. Has remote start 5kw Onan generator (start from inside the camper). Has all the normal luxuries of a Heartland toyhauler too numerous to mention. E-mail for questions. $40,000 I know it can be hard to find a truck to pull this. We had this camper picked out for a month before we could find an affordable truck to pull it. So we will consider selling as a package deal with the 2004 GMC 4 door dually in the picture below. It is 2wd, but it is the SLT version with leather interior, bose audio system, durmax diesel with Allyson transmission. Also has an exhaust brake, which allowed me to tow this camper down a 7% grade for 7 miles without using my actual breaks! Will also include the companion fifth wheel hitch (nearly $1,000 new). $53,000 for entire package. See pictures at... http://parkersburg.craigslist.org/rvs/5138183205.html
  8. We are selling our 2004 Freightliner Columbia truck and 35.5' 2012 MVP Destiny 5th wheel trailer. The truck s classified as a toterhome with a double bunk bed, sirius radio, ac/heater, refrigerator, microwave, and a port-a-pottie. The truck bed is 11' steel with hitch and tool boxes. The motor has approximately 292,000 miles and is a 10 speed fuller. The trailer has a 2000 watt inverter with two 235 watt solar panels. It has a satelitte dish with push button auto find and six 6 volt deep cell batteries. Many many extras ..... we would like to sell as a unit or we have to sell the trailer first before the truck. 70,000 for the unit 50,00 for the trailer 20,000 for the truck.
  9. Lori and I are nearing retirement and as many our age, we've given consideration to a number of ways to keep the days exciting, enjoyable and have time to share with ourselves and others. We've been campers since our first pop up in 1985. We did the summer trips with two other couples with children.....there were 8 children total so we were planning activities for all ages. Now that the children are on their own....we hope....were goving some thought to full-timing in a fifth wheel. We thought the first couple years should include a volunteer position that we would enjoy socially and culturally. After looking at several sites, I began to notice a limit on the size of your rig. My question is....for this that have volunteered and also been full timers, what size is generally acceptable in volunteer locations? Also, is their a best size we should be looking for? While comfort is more of a consideration in retirement than when camping with the kids, it's still the way of life that draws us back to camping.
